Love with a Twist: Excellent Elephants from Clever Chameleon

Excellent Edward Elephant balloon appliqué from the Love with a Twist series by Dione Gardner-Stephen of Clever Chameleon

It’s only fair….

Rabbit appliqués for the Love with a Twist quilt along at Clever Chameleon

Do you remember a while back, how we had a mummy rabbit and her baby for Love with a Twist for Mother’s Day? So it seems only fair that we have a Love with a Twist daddy and his baby for Father’s Day too. Not more rabbits, though. That would be asking for trouble…. </p>

Baby Elephant Pastel from Pebble Creek Arts

This baby elephant photo was so cute that I just had to paint it.

I started this one on vacation this year with David at Sun and Fun in Florida. That was a nice trip. I didn’t get much done on it at the time because I was too busy hanging out in the hot tub or walking around the air show with David. It was a nice trip. I will post more about that trip in a separate post.

I posted my second tutorial video on YouTube with this one. You can check it out here.

I really ...

Painting with Fabric from Quilted Joy

Art can be made with a variety of mediums. Besides oil paints and watercolors, an artist can use tile, glass, metal, wood, or fabric. These following examples are quilts created by our renters, and they are real works of arts!

Mary and Nancy with the massive applique elephant quilt they worked on together.

Nancy and Mary are sisters who come in to quilt together. Standing at the machine for long periods of time can be difficult sometimes, so these ladies tag team their quilt tops, taking turns to finish them efficiently. This is a batik quilt of elephants. The super wide border is interesting, but when you realize this would lay down on ...

Traveling Through California (Desert Palms, CA) from QuiltinCats

Okay, it has been a month since my last post.  Time to get everyone caught up.  We are happy to be back on the road again.  After leaving Sutherlin, we spent 10 days in Valley of the Rogue State Park.  Weather was starting to cooperate with warmer days and less rain.
So nice to be able to sit outside and go for walks without spending 15 minutes layering up!

Dusty was in grass heaven!  Wandering around, meowing "so much grass, so little time!".

A Finish & A Continuance from Ravelly1

Well at least it's completed but not yet quilted. I'll get to that one of these days!!

When searching through my stash for the elephant fabrics, I ran across another unfinished Armed Forces blocks. I decided to go with some filler block made from my red/white/blue scraps. I need to make one more block before putting all of it together. Good heavens, where to find time to do that??? ;-/

Made A Move from Ravelly1

The sun has been out for a couple of days so I'm finally getting some energy back. The elephant has been bugging me for some time so I forced myself into the sewing room and got to work.
I pulled out nearly the whole stash digging out fabrics to audition and use. Boy was that fun but the mess isn't pretty.....LOL

Here's what I have so far but I know that I'll need to tweak some parts and add others and I'll need to add a tree or two. Let's hope the sun ...

Still Deciding from Ravelly1

As I'm pressing some fat quarters.....
I've still not found just the right background for my elephant but looking is part of the fun, don't you think?!

Here's one of my new favorite fabrics. It's a Moda "Watercolor." I have no clue what I'll do with it.
Then there's this one. It's a Stonehenge - Prehistoric. Love it!!
What's on your ironing surface?

Laura Heine Fabric Collage Class Now Open from Quilted Joy

After an overwhelming response from folks loving all the Laura Heine quilts we’ve been posting from our last class, we’ve decided to offer the class again! In this class we will explore the fabric collage technique that defines the Laura Heine style quilts. We will spend a great deal of time considering value and contrast in an effort to add dimensional aspects to our animals. This is a great class to learn not only a technique but also a way of looking at how to select fabric and color for the right effect.

If you’d like to ...

Peggy’s To the Moon and Back Baby Quilt from Quilted Joy

There are so many adorable panels available that are perfect for a baby quilt, and sometimes you don’t need to make a heavily pieced quilt for baby.

Peggy found the perfect fabric panel for her baby quilt with cute little animals and the phrase, "I love you to the moon and back." See how Angela quilted this adorable little quilt!

This is Peggy’s baby quilt, and isn’t it adorable? It’s a quilt panel themed after the saying “I love to the moon and back.”

Elephant Fascination from Ravelly1

Can you see the sections I've outlined that will make up my version of the elephant?

Here it is from the back. This is the side I'll be tracing from.

Here I have placed the head, trunk and ears on top of my paper pattern to see if I like what's going on.

Sorry, I got so excited that I forgot to take more photos of the process. He's all done but now is the really hard part.

Short On The Borders from Hobbies Up To Here

At the beginning of this year, my mom and I agreed that 2017 should be the year of finishes. We had enough projects going to last us a lifetime and we needed to get some of that work done! Well I’ve sorta lived up to my word. I did finish my husband’s quilt not too … Continue reading Short On The Borders

My Fascination With Elephants from Ravelly1

I found this particular photo on Google. It represents a collage of images I have in my head of the magnificent mammal, the elephant.
I remember the first time I saw one up close. It was at the Austin Zoo, oh several, well ages ago. Ok, 19......59ish. Anyway, the next time was years later at a circus.
I know you all remember that I don't like things that fly, flutter, crawl, creep, slither, buzz, bigger than or smaller than me....not to worry. The elephant will never get anywhere near me except on fabric!!!! Whew.
I've had ...
