EQ Mods 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

Love it!

Both these designs use blocks from the Electric Quilt library, and the quilting motifs are modifications of one of the applique blocks.

A challenge for you … copy these designs, then add your choice of fabrics.

Do you EQ? from Humble Quilts

I'm not very good at Electric Quilt program but use it a little, mostly for my quiltalongs. I like to see how it may look as an actual quilt and then I can change colors etc to make it closer to the original or closer to what I had in mind.

I just found recently Electric Quilt has a really terrific YouTube channel. I think I will be referring to it fairly often when I need a little extra help. Find it HERE

Here's a few quilts I've used EQ for

Almost Amish. You can find this ...

Moda Chafarcani from Tink Squared

For a while now I’ve had a layer cake of Moda’s Chafarcani, along with a fat quarter bundle of it laying around. I was a bit dismayed when it first arrived in the mail as it seems like the majority of the fabrics are light colored, with only a few reds. It makes designing a quilt with those colors a little challenging, in my opinion.

I was flipping through Pinterest photos yesterday and ran across some quilt designed around charm squares. I’ve no idea what the name is or who designed it, but I drew it up ...

AccuquiltGo Sawtooth Star: Get Mileage Out of the Dies You Own from Mulberry Patch Quilts

You’ll see in my recent posts that I’m obsessed with learning how much mileage I can get with my Accuquilt GO!Cutter and the dies I already own.

I love the simplicity of the Sawtooth Star block and so I decided to see if I could design some pieced items with it using the dies I have.

Although I don’t own the 8” Go!Cube, I have almost all the shapes (see those in bold print on the list below). The only one shape I was missing was for the “flying geese” part of the star: the ...

Tulips from Chocolate Cake Quilt Designs

Sometimes, good things are a long time coming, like this adorable, tulip-filled wall hanging.

The pattern, Field of Flowers, was purchased long ago when I visited my hometown for my 20-year class reunion.

After returning home from the reunion, the pattern was tucked away in my crafting space, as I was busy with a toddler and pregnant with our second son, who was causing me to feel like I had Epstein Barr – zero energy and a chronic, overwhelming need to sleep.

Several years later, during a rare weekday moment with no kids, I took the pattern to a quilt store ...

EQ Mods OP 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

Looks like a rather old quilt, though the layout is more modern than the fabric choices. I love looking at old stuff, and love that this looks old, even if designed on computer rather than with pencils on paper.

The second design looks like a washed out version of the first, so it not only looks old but also used. I don’t think I will try to show worn and frayed patches with computer technology!

Next Project Bin on deck - #21 from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

 This one may take awhile.

What’s in the bin?

Broken Crayons quilt — a flimsy

International Mystery Tour Egyptian Pyramids quilt — all rows are pieced (I think)

Rouenneries Baskets — a NESTY for a pattern I designed in Electric Quilt for French General’s first line of fabrics.

Stitch & B!tch Sampler — a UFO I have stewed over for years.

Of these projects, the NESTY has gone back into the fabric stash. The rest will be completed this year. First up is the Stitch & B!tch Sampler.

In November 2016, Cindy, LeiLani and I went to the Houston quilt show. We ...

More .SVG Play from Tink Squared

I’m really excited to play with the wool felt when it gets here. This morning, I have another design I would love to cut with the Cricut Maker using the rotary blade. This one is a bit more complicated than my first attempt (which I’ve not cut yet, I’m still playing in the software).

I went through a few of the appliqué libraries in EQ8 this morning and picked two to play with. I taught myself this process, which involved printing to .pdf from EQ8, when I made my schoolhouse quilt. All the floral appliqués in it ...

Success! from Tink Squared

I’m feeling pretty pumped! I’ve finished drawing the dogwood appliqué into the Silhouette Studio software. The warp tool is SUPER cool! No, it isn’t perfect, but I’m just getting started and like Electric Quilt, I will learn as I go.

I made sure to add a sticky note in Silhouette Studio where this design idea came from.

I saved my working file as an .svg file, then uploaded it into Cricut Design space, where I removed the stems, as I will cut them by hand I think, and shaped them… if not I’ll add them ...

Duplicating a Wool Applique in Software from Tink Squared

Years ago when I first started to learn how to design quilts in Electric Quilt (version 3!) I started by replicating quilt patterns I had. I learned how to use the tools as I needed them, and I’m still learning! This method makes me think about what I want to do, and what tools I might need to use to make it happen. Executing those steps helps cement the solution in my brain.

Now I’m wanting to use both my Silhouette Cameo (3) and my new Cricut Maker more, for both fabric and paper crafts. Now that I ...

Birds in the Orchard 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

This project file was crated during a state guild quilt exhibition where I had been asked to demonstrate the Electric Quilt program. I started a new project, added some blocks and kept rearranging them while talking to passing visitors, sometimes about the program I was using, sometimes about what had happened in our lives since we last met, sometimes about how to change a block from a straight to an on point setting, how old our children were, where did I find the fabrics in the program … just an ordinary conversation with passersby at a quilt exhibition when designing quilts ...

Must have book for every quilter from Moda Lissa

stock # EQ B-ENCYC

If there is one book of mine that I have completely worn out the pages, hands down it has to be Barbara Brackman’s ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PIECED QUILT PATTERNS. I could not have been more excited when Barbara told me she was going to be making the 3rd edition.  I have been stalking both Barbara and Electric Quilt Company so I would not miss out on any update. Well the time is getting really really close to when I am able to get my hands on the actual book. Merry Christmas to me!!

Autumn Jubilee 2020 Begins!! from From My Carolina Home

Wow, it is the fifth year for Autumn Jubilee, and this is going to be the best yet! I never thought when I did this for the first time in 2016 that it would grow the way it has. But, I should have known that I am not the only one that loves Autumn!  Cooler temperatures, rich fall colors inside on quilts and tables, wearing favorite sweaters, and drives on the parkway to see the explosion of color in the trees are just a few of the delights of this season. This year, new vendors join favorite regular sponsors for ...

Playing with EQ from Jo's Country Junction

I’ve been playing a lot with Electric Quilt, or more commonly known as EQ.  I have EQ8 which is the latest edition.

For a long time, I simply designed on my computer using the WORD program.  In fact, I did a couple of tutorial type posts and published them as

I’ll be honest.  I’ve bought the EQ program several times and never learned to use it.  I was busy and didn’t have time.  Whenever learning a new program it takes time and practice and I didn ...
