EQ Dozen Again 21, 22 from Virtual Quilter

When the original project file grew too much I started another project using the same blocks and the same fabrics. it has grown to almost equal the original file.

I wonder if every owner of the Electric Quilt 8 program, or earlier versions, started with the same blocks if we would have many identical designs, let alone the same fabrics.

Baker’s Dozen 49, 50 from Virtual Quilter

In this project file, the blocks are from the Electric Quilt library, but I have mixed up pieces from some of the blocks, and altered the layouts of most of the blocks in some way, and have continued to use the blocks in their original form.

The other difference between this and the EQ Dozen projects is that this one started with a baker’s dozen … 13 blocks as opposed to 12 blocks!

EQ Album + 55, 56 from Virtual Quilter

A bit dark, but suitable if someone has a habit of sitting on the bed with dirty clothes on!

A bit of light looks OK.

One Collection - Two Quilts from Sew Preeti Quilts

Have you seen the Petal Poetry fabric collection by Island Batik from Lumin Fabrics?

Seriously, drop everything and go find this collection.  If you know me, you also know that I love the bright reds, shiny golds and vibrant oranges. So when a collection that is NOT red/gold/orange/pink but still catches my eye, you know it has to be super special.

How special?

Well, I designed two separate quilts, one traditional and one modern, and they were both published in two separate magazines.

Let's Dance was published in Quilter's World.

Let's Dance

Designed in ...

EQ Mix ‘n’ Match 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

All the blocks in this project file are designed using block designs from the Electric Quilt Block Library, but with the shapes mixed and matched with each other. Challenge for you is to identify the original blocks from the library.

My favourite is the second design!

I have been playing with the block designs for quite some time, but have concentrated on the mixing and matching, and have just started adding border versions and quilting motifs. Lots of play time ahead!

Fiddling with Fabric 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

Love it!

Love the first one, but love the second one more!

Jamestown Jewels 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

Challenged my self to start some project files with rectangular designs rather than squares.

I wanted to tidy up the collection of blocks too, and make sure they are accurate. Some of these blocks date from EQ5, when I was very much a learner.

I think these are a bit too wide or a bit short for a single bed, maybe they would be OK for a king single.

EQ Dozen Again 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting mix of blocks, or perhaps an interesting way to mix up some blocks.

I like the second one, but would leave out the 16 identical applique blocks and quilt a similar motif in that space instead.

EQ Dozen Again 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

Two blocks direct from the Electric Quilt library, and I like it.

I love mixing pieced and applique blocks in quilts, as it adds a lot of interest to any design to mix in something a bit different.

Beth’s Brunsvigia Quilts 21, 22 from Virtual Quilter

Today’s designs make use of a feature of Electric Quilt which allows us to use a feature which will turn any block diagram which uses squares and rectangles into a quilt layout.

I love the second design!

EQ Mods OP 18, 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

I like the first design for today. Almost too busy, but with soft contrasts compared to most quilts, and most art work of any kind.

I like the second one too.

Interesting use of colour and contrast placement in the third design too.

All blocks are from the Electric Quilt block library with some very basic modifications, so if you have EQ you could reproduce these designs.

EQ Mods 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

Love it!

Both these designs use blocks from the Electric Quilt library, and the quilting motifs are modifications of one of the applique blocks.

A challenge for you … copy these designs, then add your choice of fabrics.

Baker’s Dozen 37, 38 from Virtual Quilter

Something like this would look stunning in the right setting.

The second one is not as stunning, but would still look good.

Wedding Fans 49, 50 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first design today. No full Wedding Ring blocks, but enough bits for most quilters to recognize the parts.

Looking at both of these I think they would be great designs to use on a tablecloth for the table holding the wedding cake.

Something else to celebrate …. Electric Quilt is now 30 years old.

I had been quilting for quite a while before EQ was born, and it was quite a few years before I bought EQ5. I had quite a collection of block designs on paper, quite a few of them drafted and ready to use, and I ...

EQ Pearls of Wisdom + Giveaway from easypatchwork

Have you hear the news? The Electric Quilt Company is celebrating 30 years of business! It is hard to believe that another five years have gone by. It seems like just yesterday the new EQ8 version came out. What is EQ8 and the Electric Quilt Company? The EQ Company produces the leading quilt design software (EQ8) which I use just about daily in my own designs. It doesn't write the patterns for you, but it takes out all of the math guess work, cutting and dimensions are easily adapted from line drawings in the program. It even prints out ...

Silly Sadie 21, 22 from Virtual Quilter

The Serendipity tool in Electric Quilt is the tool I use when I want to be surprised by what I design … after I select the tool and the block EQ does the twisting and turning for me. I love the design above, but not excited about the one below.

The second design has the original block in the side borders.

PS I do love that the link colour matches the quilt designs!

EQ 9x9s OP 22, 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

Basic blocks from the Electric Quilt library, but the design looks anything but basic.

Tipping the block on point makes a big difference.

So does including narrow sashing between the blocks but using the background fabric in the blocks. Even the little shares look like a bit like stars in the dark background.

X marks the spot!

Love the second design!

Note that the block used to create the designs in the centre is featured in the border of the last design. Easy to pick it in the last design, but well hidden in the other two.

EQ users rejoice! NEW Blockbase+ and a GIVEAWAY!!! from Quilting with Kimberly

WE HAVE A WINNER!

Cheeto helped us draw a winner at random (okay, we used a random generator) and the lucky winner is Judy Valentino! Congratulations, Judy!

I’ve been an avid user of Electric Quilt software since 1992. The first version I used (almost thirty years ago!) was version 3, and I’m now using the most current version which is 8. While all the versions have been amazing through the years, I’m thrilled with how version 8 is so easy to use and user-intuitive. I’m also very proud to be an EQ Artist!

For many years ...
