Elizabeth's Quilts from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I am WAY behind in posting photos and getting out receipts for items we have received in the mail.  My porch has been a busy place in the last few weeks and I haven't done a great job of keeping up.

With our craft sale event and today's board meeting all complete, I am hoping I can get caught up this week.  Who knew a tiny quilt nonprofit could grow so quickly!

Elizabeth has been a donor of ours for quite some time.  She has also been a great mentor to me because she has been on a ...

Oh Scrap! : RWB String from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Finally, the end to a crazy busy week. You can bet I will be spending Sunday napping to catch up on much needed sleep.

We had our craft sale Friday and Saturday.  The turn out wasn't great but we still sold quite a few items.  What didn't sell will be stored for future sales - we will definitely do something similar again.

I didn't want to miss an Oh Scrap!, so I am just sharing one of the scrappy quilts we finished this week.

Here is a fun Veteran string quilt made from a combination of blocks sent ...

Finally some Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been so busy the last two weeks, I don't think I have shared many finishes.  So last night I made time to write a Friday post.  And wouldn't you know it, I messed up with my password and Google put me in a time out for four hours. Sigh!

But I am back today with a few photos...

This quilt top was sent in by Janice.  Thanks to Holly we had a nice patriotic fabric for the back. Our newest Board Member Bev quilted and bound this one, so it is already for delivery.

Here is ...

Colorful Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

There were a number of quilts finished this week.  Here are a few I am ready to share.  I ran out of labels so I will have to photograph and share the others later.

Kristin sent in this quilt top and backing fabric.  The colors in this one are so amazing!  It has already been sent out to find its new home.

This colorful 9-patch quilt top was sent in by Rena.  We decided it was perfect for this purple plaid fabric sent to us by Kat.  It really brought out the purple on the front.  I sent this one ...

Fridays are for Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I just realized I haven't posted any finishes this week.  The newsletter gets released later tonight so I have been focused on getting that done.  We are still completing quilts at the rate of about one per day.

I always feel like we are cheating when we make a quilt from just a panel.  But this little quilt is so very cute, I am not sorry at all!  Kathy sent in this panel and the lovely fabric for the backing.  I sent it off to local longarm quilter Terry and she finished it up for us.

This little quilt ...

Some Scrappy Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

This week, a lot of the quilts we finished looked like they were all made from scraps.
It was a fantastic week!

Nann sent in this lovely quilt top made from lots of cross weave plaids.  I sent if off to Laura, who quilted and bound it.  It took us a whole to find a backing but Barb sent us this pretty fall colored one that looked great.

Here is a quilt made from some of Marci's super scrappy blocks.  I love how it has a woven design to it.  We made this one a bit smaller than usual ...

Whole Lot of Pink from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The heart quilts are slowly getting put together.  Some of these are going to be used for a secret project.  It is only secret because I just haven't been able to tell you about it.

I really love how these are turning out.  You guys did a great job with the low volume blocks.  This one is the third one we have completed.  Board Member Pam actually pieced this quilt top for us.  Thanks to Jenny, we had the perfect pink backing - it has tiny loops and little hearts.

We are still working through some flannel squares we received ...

Color Block Stars - New Block Drive from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

August is coming to an end and that means it is time for a new block drive for Many Hands and Many Hearts. We are going with monochromatic blocks this drive.  So every block will just be one color with white.  This will be our first star block!

For each block, you will need:

3.5" Colored squares      QTY = 15
3.5" White square        QTY = 1
2" White squares          QTY = 8

Here is how I made my block...

First I laid out my 3.5" squares in a layout I liked.  It is okay to use batiks, solids, or a ...

Some Friday Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Earlier this week, I shared some small quilts that were completed.
Today, I have a few finishes that are larger.

Earlier this year, I sent Jeanine a few pre-cuts we had in inventory and she turned them into quilt tops.  She decided on the pattern and supplied the background fabrics.  She made this one from a Charm pack.  I love how it turned out.

Local Quilter Laura quilted this and sewed up the binding for us.

Whooo loves owls?!   Kristin sent us this quilt top and the flannel backing fabric.  Laura quilted some lovely hearts on it to finish it ...

More Fun Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Janet was finally able to come by so we could take a few photos.  These are all photos of quilts where the quilt top was donated and Many Hands and Many Hearts finished the quilt.
We love and appreciate our generous donors!

First up is a quilt for a Veteran.  This top was made by Jenny.  I really love this design.  It is made from 4.5" squares.  I think Jenny said the pattern made a REALLY big quilt so she downsized it.

Denice made this bright scrappy quilt top.  It might have been paper-pieced.  Karyn sent in the peach ...

More Weekly Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Even though the temperatures are hot, we are already starting to plan for fall.  That means flannel quilts will start to be completed.

I really love this all flannel one.  Kristen sent in both the top and the backing.  In fact, I think I was able to use some of the batting she sent us on this quilt too.  I had a lot of fun quilting it - I loaded it on its side and quilted in some linear swirls and some squiggly lines.

Check out this big beauty.  Nann donated the quilt top and the pink backing came from Karen ...

Mid Week Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Cindy sent in this lovely quilt top.  I really love the colors - plum and dark mustard.

Cindy also sent in the purple for the backing.
A big thanks to local longarmer Kelly for finishing it up for us.

We just received this finished quilt from Julie.  That bubblegum pink sure gives it a vintage vibe.

I always love to see quilts made from one of my patterns.  This is one of my Scrap Mixology patterns called Chaser.  I love how Sue put her colors together.  It is so playful!

Martha sent in the red doggie backing fabric.  We added some ...

Oh Scrap! : Does this Work? from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

There are a lot of things classified as scraps here at Many Hands and Many Hearts.  Yes, we have tons of fabric bits piled on lots of surfaces.  And we are always looking for new ideas on how to use them.  Additionally, we consider orphan blocks, scrappy string blocks (that have no home), UFOs and every other bag of goodies that comes our way "scraps".

Well, one of my jobs is to find ways to get these all into quilts.

Earlier this week, I was digging through my bags and boxes of blocks.  Marci always keeps us well stocked with ...

The last of the Jewel Box Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Today we share the final quilts from the Jewel Box block drive.  I hate to see these go because there are so many ways these blocks can be laid out.

This quilt was the last one to get completed so we used all the blocks that were left.  I kind of like the multicolored vibe it has.  On the back, we used a black/green/blue fabric that Sandy sent us.  We had to add in a solid to make it large enough.  This one will be perfect for a teen.

Purple and green always look great together.  Mari and ...

I wish my photography was as good as this quilt is adorable!

It turned out really lovely!

A local quilter and friend donated her labor.

Mid Week Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

We here at Many Hands and Many Hearts are still focusing on pushing through some of the quilt tops that were donated to us.  A rather large queue of them were created when we were busy making quills from some block drives.

This blue, gray and taupe quilt top was sent to us from Denice.  We had the perfect gray and taupe backing for it thanks to Dorothy.  Local longarm quilter Laura finished it all up.  It is unfortunate the photos of this quilt aren't that great due to the bright sun but it really is quite pretty.

Friday the Fourth from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

 Happy Fourth of July!

Hope you have lots of family, friends and good food during your celebration.

When you have a dog, this holiday can be a stressful one.  Sadly, my neighborhood gets a little crazy with fireworks - even though they are banned here in the city limits.

Arthur just had surgery to remove some cancerous lumps so I will have to work extra hard to keep him quiet.  We don't want any pulled stitches.

One of the board members loves Tula Pink prints.  She made this quilt top for Many Hands and Many Hearts.  She also donated the ...

Some Small Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Many Hands and Many Hearts saw many small quilts get finished or donated this week.

It seems like we photographed quilts every day this week!

Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl sent in this bright and happy little quilt with her blue and red Scrappy Chain blocks.  Her work is always so precise and creative.  Check out the backing on this one!

Local longarm quilter Cindy snuck this fun little scrappy quilt in the bag of quilts she returned to us all quilted.  These little quilts are a great way to use up some of those scraps.

This sweet little flannel quilt ...

Quick Scrappy Patchwork from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I think one of the most challenging task of Many Hands and Many Hearts is keeping up with the scraps that are created making all these quilts.  And I know it is going to be more challenging in the future as we make more quilts.

So, I find myself whipping out quick patchwork quilts.  This week , I went through the RWB scraps and found quite a few prints I could cut into 4.5" squares.

There is no rhyme or reason to how I sewed the squares together.  I quickly quilted it up and moved it to the stack of ...

Finishes for Kids from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

There have been quite a few kid quilts getting finished lately.  We are starting to stockpile quilts for delivery this fall and winter.

Kristin sent in this fun quilt top.   I love the summery colors in the top.  On the back is a lovely dark coral flannel with fun dots sent in by Karyn.  Local quilter Cindy did the amazing quilting on it.

Kristin also sent in this cute little flannel quilt top and flannel backing.  I sent this one off to Cindy for quilting too.  Simple patchwork works so well for these donation quilts.

I haven't decided if ...
