My Second Best Thrift Find, Summer Hand Stitching, Cold Water Swimming from Canadian Needle Nana

The birds are sweetly singing and the earth is blossoming forth as the old saying goes. What a treat to be in June, even a June that is only slightly sunny with a cool edge to the breezes. And the beautiful flowers don't seem to mind at all. I love my Irises.

And this combination of colours...the purple, violet and deep down, that extreme yellow...
I finally got into another thrift store. And the sentence You need this like you need a hole in the head definitely applied. I have a small collection of dog figurines mostly found ...

June New Starts of All Sorts And a Sweet Stitchy Gift from Canadian Needle Nana

June is a month of new starts of all sorts!

The robins on the front veranda have started their family. I had the step ladder ready and waited till they were over on the far lawn to grab a quick shot of their nest. Two things that impress me about robins...their nest is always a thing of beauty in construction...so strong I've seen them last many winters and the other thing is the rich, gorgeous colour of the eggs they lay. Crayola makes a crayon that is robin's egg blue and the famous Tiffany's trademarked ...

Photos, Great Online Fun Site, Helpful Readers, Free Stuff from Canadian Needle Nana

I promised a few photos of my weekend away to downtown Ottawa which according to Google maps is a 41 minute drive from here. It was exciting to be in a city but I had mixed emotions about what I saw there. A lot more folks suffering around the streets and we were warned about not walking at night in an area that had always been an interesting/wonderful place to stroll and explore. But on the upside the Chateau is still so beautiful- I love it there. This is the view from our window looking towards Parliament Hill.

 And ...

Garden Talk, Norma's Appliqued Baskets, Animals-Wild and Companions Too from Canadian Needle Nana

Do you know what this is?

Just in bloom or is blooming the right word for them I wonder. I was admiring this welcome spring sight while another sign of spring filled my ears...the peepers and frogs are making such a racket these mornings down by the pond.

One morning, I crept about because a Canada Goose was taking a nap on the far side. Like the little squirrel in the last post, I feared there was something amiss seeing it flat out in the grass like this.

But no, it aroused and flew off seemingly right as rain ...

Back to Fostering: Meet Binx from Jo's Country Junction

The foster group I work with is HEART Animal Rescue. I hadn’t had a dog for quite a while due to my previous job. I worked 10-hour days, and that was too long for a dog to be here by themselves. Many times I could have taken a dog with me to work, but then …

The Puppy Express from Jo's Country Junction

Here is a Christmas Miracle story for you: I was at work on Wednesday. A family with an American Bulldog came into the clinic. The mom was in labor and she was in need of a c-section. The mom had been scheduled for a c-section but it was for Friday…not Wednesday. Mother Nature decided to …

Dark and Damp December Dawns from Canadian Needle Nana

When walking Ned one day, we spotted a Barred Owl. I say "we" because it was on the fence and Ned stopped and watched it too. I took Ned back home, grabbed my large camera and headed out to where I'd last seen it. It had moved across the driveway and then as I watched, it flew much further into thick bush and I could get only so far. I couldn't find it but there was a very large shape in a tree I assumed to be my owl. I knew it was unlikely any photos would be ...

Quakers Cross Stitch, Everglade, Season of Bronze from Canadian Needle Nana

This week's view of the faded Hydrangeas reminded me that some call autumn the season of bronze.

In the back yard too, more of the bronze where a couple of weeks ago were all the pinks.
Though down by the pond, there are still golds to be found amongst the rusts.

It is consistently freezing or flirting with freezing overnight. I've begun feeding the birds and red squirrels, just the small feeder so far. There was a warning that a black bear was around and to hold off on the bird seeds which I did till now.
Inside ...

I’m a Painter….Well, Sort of. from Jo's Country Junction

My birthday is just around the corner in December. My daughter Kelli got me an early birthday present and it’s the best kind. She bought an experience we both could share. Nowadays, for me, I think the best presents are experiences. I’m past the age I need something bought for me. She bought us tickets …

How I Spent My Day Off… from Jo's Country Junction

It all started Wednesday night after work. Uncle Karl and two of Kalissa’s boys, Carver and Gannon, made yard sauce while Kalissa and I watched the Indiana Fever game. Sadly the team was off and didn’t play the best. Another thing that happened on Wednesday night, I had these three pups as overnight guests. They …

Life Lessons, Crossroads Quilt, Mother Robin from Canadian Needle Nana

"The times they are a-changin..." Bob Dylan

The library underwent upgrading last summer and huge new windows were installed. This was the view a couple of weeks ago out one of them. It struck me it could have been taken in so many small towns all over America with a church squarely in view. This is the Zion-Memorial United Church which would have been my church in the old days. This one is holding on but one of the other especially beautiful stone churches has been turned into apartments.

LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color's prompt last week was ...

Food Hacks, Barred Owls, BB Border Design, Pink Hour Glass Blocks from Canadian Needle Nana

I just have to share the end of another successful Barred Owls of Indiana season. I so enjoyed watching these three grow and then branch successfully off into the big wide world. I really like how the owl parents are so attentive and make sure all three, even the youngest and smallest, hatched days after the first, gets plenty of food. Their eyesight is thought to be better than ours so imagine emerging from the nest box and seeing all the world in front of them for the first time- no wonder they look transfixed.

BTW, the Cottage Garden Samplings ...

Thrifted Bargains, Tiny 9 Patches, Knitting Moss Stitch from Canadian Needle Nana

Ned's big brother is staying with us for a little while. Here he's having a chat with Tony. Petey is demonstrating his signature move...how he can balance and beg at the same time. Definitely treat worthy, he insists.

During this week, I've been tv stitching. So enjoy making these tiny EPP blocks.
I found another YouTube stitcher to watch who enjoys both cross stitch and quilting. Laura at LalaDee Stitches. She has a great upbeat vibe and shares much enthusiasm for each of her many projects. She does beautiful work in both cross stitching and quilting ...

My Busy Thursday from Jo's Country Junction

Thursdays are my busy day at home. I don’t work that day and it tends to turn into an errand day. Being I can’t foster as much with the HEART Animal Rescue doesn’t mean I can’t help. I’ve told the coordinator that if you plan something for Thursdays, I can do the running. That’s what …

Why we buy what we do! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Yesterday, I read a great article about Pet-Valu in the Globe and Mail. It was from the Report on Business magazine.

Article on our pets

Holy!!! The amount of money that we spend on our pets is insane. OK—my pets do not get all the fancy food and treats. Do not tell them that they are missing out on all this crazy stuff. By the way, they know something is not right this morning as they are on either side of my chair as I write, as close to me as they can get!

I have a meeting today ...

Garden Beginnings, Tiny 9 Patches, Cross Stitching, Turkey Pot Pie from Canadian Needle Nana

The storm is past and power has been restored for everyone. Then it was really cold like we had dialed back a season back to winter.  However today, spring hopes are revived as it is going up to 15C.  I did pick up my seed packets while out and about yesterday. I found out last year that these are classified seasonal and only available on the shelves for a brief time, so have to get them early. I bought more of the Zinnia packets because I had good luck growing those last year and they stayed in bloom so long ...

Bramble Blooms, Tiny 9 Patch, Animal Rescue from Canadian Needle Nana

I showed Ned and his fellow chocolate Lab litter mates in this post to celebrate his birthday.   The litter included Petey who stayed with them and Beth made them a cake.

And Ned got to have his piece too which disappeared so fast it's a good thing I took a photo beforehand.
I finished my wonderful Peter Pauper Press Snowman and Friends jigsaw just in time to see the snow leave. Each of these puzzles includes a full poster of the picture which is a great help.
I finally made a decision about what next for the Bramble Blooms ...
