Upcycling Denim Jeans from Quilts + Color

This is one of 4 quilts I pieced at least 20 years ago.

I used the good parts of my sons jeans to make these.

The other 3 were finished and I gave them to my nephews.

This one was finally quilted in 2020.

A long time in the making – the Positively Square quilt from Stitch and Yarn

I shared the first tentative pics of the making of this quilt back in September 2020, but the inspiration for it is lost in the mists of time. I do remember being motivated to play around with plus blocks when Curated Quilts did a callout for their Plus edition, but the actual specifics of this one are long gone...

Days measured in stitches from Stitch and Yarn

My time is currently being marked in stitches and involuntary participation in a strange kind of lottery.

I've been making quilts from denim for a while now and I thought it was high time I shared some of my tips for quilting it. Denim has some quirks that are good to think about before you embark on quilting, especially as one of those quirks is that it can be a real pain to unpick if the quilting goes along the grain of the fabric.

First though, let's talk backing. Denim quilts are heavy, so think about the quilt's end use beforehand. If it's going to be a bed quilt, you might want to ...

Blue Giant cushion kits – how to go into production without going into production... from Stitch and Yarn

I've spent a long time trying to avoid going into production on any of my patterns. It's not that I mind making the pieces again – especially if I can give them a new twist, or take a slightly different approach – it's that I mind making them over and over and over again. My favourite part of the process is really the designing after all.

So, when the pile of jeans for upcycling was starting to look a little threatening, I decided a kit for the Blue Giant cushion might be worth exploring. That way you can all ...
