Over part of Saturday I pieced the 12.5" blocks. On Sunday, I finished piecing the blocks and assembled them into this little top that will finish at about 36" by 36". Perfect for a Quilts for Kids quilt. I think I have a piece of green flannel that will make a snuggly backing ... read more

Here it is with all those sashings and cornerstones. I'm super pleased with how it turned out. Now I just have to pick out another border fabric and find some backing fabric.
More fun color combinations.
It was exciting to find this one showing up again.
And again.
Pinwheel!
Star.
And another of these. As I look over the blocks I think about adding sashing. I also think about rearranging the blocks. I'll let you know what comes of this thinking. I'm sure whatever I ... read more
I played around with blocks in Electric Quilt until I had a couple blocks I wanted to make. I grabbed my Accuquilt Go! and 8 Inch Qube and got cutting.
As usual, it was quick work.
I assembled the pinwheel blocks first.
Then the stars.
This quilt uses the panel as the ... read more
Another 16-patch. I just grabbed some squares of the appropriate colors and arranged them. These are more improv than one would imagine. Green and orange.
I may have played a little loose with my interpretation of "orange" in this block. Purple, green, and orange.
This was exciting because it was the first time block number 20 showed up in the rolls. Black, purple, and pink.
Green and green pinwheel.
I enjoy these little economy blocks so much. I want to put them in so many things. Pink, gray, and orange.

This block is kind of busy.
This one pulls colors from one print.
This one is a rainbow of fun. Red and green together!
Another one pulling colors from a single print.
Even when I let the dice pick the colors I still get to pick the fabric.
Sometimes the outcome is interesting.
Ore just a wonderful surprise. Two more weeks of daily blocks.
This week saw a couple blocks that hadn't made in yet. Like this one. Technically it is a two color block but I used four different prints for the blue.
I like to use the larger pieces to showcase larger prints.
Like this one. That rainbow dog fabric is delightful.
Two yellows!
I love this large flower print.
Sunflowers.
I think this is the last large piece of that flower print I've been using as a green. Do you have any long-term projects planned for 2023?
This block is such a delight.
Bigger pieces means I can use bigger prints.
These are just so much fun to put together.
Look at that fussy-cut treasure map!
I was so excited when this block came up. So different from the rest. It would make a great alternate block.
Sometimes I put unlikely things together.
Halfway there!
This week I managed to cut and sew each randomly generated block on the day I rolled it.
This week I had more than a couple blocks that had doubles. This one had double green.
This one had double white.
This one is double yellow.
Sometimes there is an easy block. The pinwheel is one of those.
I think this one is my favorite of all the blocks. I could make an entire quilt using just this block.
I'm going to be able to make some interesting layouts with how many of these I'm getting ... read more
Each block is a fun way to relax after work.
Some days I don't have time to sew the block.
Last week I didn't sew for three days.
I did manage to generate the blocks, pick the fabrics, and cut the pieces for each block on the day it was generated.
Then I sewed them together when I did have ... read more

So far I’m still sticking with the Christmas Fireworks and two more blocks are done.
First one with the star pointing straight.
Then an off-centre one.
The back of the straight star after grading of the seams and pressing it. When I was taking the photos, I happened to scroll through my camera roll really quickly and it was fun to see how much movement the block that seems off-centre adds. Now I’m really glad I decided to do the blocks both ways!
I’m also very grateful that I caught on to the effect of the two ...
read moreSo what have I been doing lately? Cutting some strips to work on my RSC Cobblestone blocks. Blue is the nominated colour this month so I dug into my bag of batiks to see what I could find. I do my cutting out on top of the chest freezer, which is just the right height for this job. But like most jobs these days I have to pace myself so that I don’t affect the muscles on my back. Just a little at a time and I get there.
Cutting strips for cobblestone blocks
Now for a bit of ...

Getting started with something new is usually the hardest part. Quilting can be a laborious process — it requires many steps that can seem really overwhelming when you’re new to it all! Many beginner quilters can get stuck when thinking about piecing together their first blocks, but we’re here to help! Today we’re going to be talking about the steps before you start piecing. A good foundation is ...
read more Hi everyone! How are you all doing? Yesterday, while I was trying valiantly to teach a class to students who are seriously exhausted, several dump trucks came and dumped fill dirt outside the almost-finished garage. I was annoyed as all get out and happy as a clam at the same time. It was loud and disturbing, but it means that my garage only has one more step to go. So I guess my current mood would best be described as annoyed-happy. Or maybe happily annoyed?
Today I just have a couple of updates on things I'm working on, a ...

I even cranked another pair of ... read more
