21st Birthday Cushion from Romany Quilting

After a period of uncertainty because of new Covid cases in Auckland, we were pleased that our family celebrations went ahead on Saturday.  Leaving Gemma in charge of the caravan at Takapau, we drove up to Napier to meet up for the family lunch.  Luckily, I had remembered to take the birthday cushion with me – wouldn’t it be terrible if I had left it at home?  Birthday girl Kate had asked for a patchwork cushion in blue, and mentioned she rather liked hearts.  So… blue hearts it was, luckily I made it in plenty of time, so I wasn ...

✦ crossed orange peel cushion ✦ from Charm About You

Don't you love it when a plan comes together? Even better when you finish a project you have been meaning to work on for some time, when the initial plan you had changes and turns out better as a result. This version of my Crossed Orange Peel pattern was a challenge to myself, using slightly more difficult seam construction and it's my project for the April Aurifil Artisan challenge, which is to create a project using my favourite Aurifil thread. That is like a trick question though because I genuinely love and use all the different types of ...

Sheepish Cuddles from Celtic Thistle Stitches

A while ago I made a Bear cushion for our elder grandson, which I am pleased to say that he has really taken to. Recently, however, our son told us that our younger grandson has also taken a shine to the cushion, so in the interests of filial harmony a request was put in for a second cushion for our littlest grandson.

As I didn't want to make a replica of the first one, I trawled through all sorts of cushions on Pinterest until I finally decided that I would have a go at a sheep cushion.

I had ...

Reviewing 2019 from Romany Quilting

It’s always interesting looking back at what was achieved during the year.  My first finish for the year was not till March, I think we must have been busy tripping away in the caravan for some time early in the year.  I finally completed my long winded Animal ABC quilt, which had been hanging around for ages.  I had fun collecting animal print fabrics for this quilt, and pen friend Janet from Australia really helped me out when she printed out a picture of a Quokka to send me to use for the letter Q.  This one I’m ...

Caravan Cushions–done from Romany Quilting

All done, I’m pleased to say, six new cushions for the caravan.  I ordered some matching upholstery fabric used in the caravan, and only just had enough.  The patterned grey fabric on the fronts was from a piece left over from making cushions for our previous caravan.  The fabric was reasonably thick, so it was necessary to use the walking foot, and to make matters worse, prone to unravel as I was stitching the cushion pieces together.  So I zig zagged the seams, that should stop it unravelling any further.

What I’ve been doing from Romany Quilting

It’s always busy this time of year, with social outings coming thick and fast, together with several weekends away in the caravan.  Sewing has taken a bit of a “back seat” lately, I’m sorry to say.  But I’m really pleased that I managed to complete both items I was making for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, that’s a bonus in the busy pre-Christmas rush.  Sadly, I’ve not had time to “roll the dice” and work on the items on my list for a wee while.

But I do have a project on the go at the ...

Christmas Cushion, and a visit to the Breeder from Romany Quilting

We took a short trip away in the caravan this weekend, and I’m pleased to say that my new Christmas cushion  has been completed with time to spare.  The front was stitched quite some time ago, I seem to recall, then it was tucked away and forgotten.  When I found it again, I did a little hand quilting on the front, and finished up the cushion just this week.  This is a Bronwyn Hayes, Red Brolly design.

Christmas in the Caravan from Romany Quilting

I know its early, but we are away for a week in the caravan,  heading off for a Christmas Rally.  There has been a tiny bit of caravan Christmas decorating done, and Gemma is making the most of it.  Such as sprawled out on the bed on top of the Christmas quilt.  She is such a poser – I’m sure she just settles down and waits till I get the camera out!
