My Bright Patches 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

I don’t think I would enjoy making up any more than four or five of the pieced blocks in this design, but would be happy to make up to four of each of the five pieced blocks … which just leaves the eight applique blocks.

I like the second design, but if I had to choose one of these two to make up I would make the blocks for the first, and add the applique border from the second.

Quentin’s Quilting 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

I love it … although it is a bit blue. I do like the quilting design as it is clean and simple, and would be suitable to use with most of our modern waddings which are much less likely to fall to pieces inside a quilt than the waddings used a fifty to hundred years ago.

I would use less quilting in the border though.

Love the second one too, but some quilting in the border would be a good idea!

Talking about quilting, here is a link to an article about markers to use on fabric.

9P Pretties from EQ5 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Electric Quilt was up to version 5 when I first became a user, and have upgraded as soon as possible with each new version, and loved the way the program has progressed.

Learning to use each upgrade has been a challenge with each step, and I still have lots to learn, but I am still amazed at some of the designs I did way back then.

It is one of those days when I am not going to be able to pick a favourite.

Love the colours in the first, the shape created by the blocks around the centre block ...

Quilted Border Beauties 14, 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first, and so does the cat.

I was thinking of a small quilt when I designed the second one, but I think it would look great on a double, queen or king size bed with that large centre block, and it would be worth playing with other big blocks.

Love the last, and so does the cat.

Autumn Daze 75, 76 from Virtual Quilter

Two designs from one of my favourite project files today.

Not too sure about the blue … partly because it is not my favourite colour … but I think it would look better with more blues amongst the border scraps.

Piecing Playtime 4, 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

I like lots of things about today’s designs … but not the colour.

I like the large print used in some of the blocks and the border, and the contrast is OK.

I especially like the dark, light, large print, light, dark combination of strips which make up the border.

PJ 1121 Pauline Patch 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

I keep finding stuff hidden away in Electric Quilt files … some of them dating back to 2013!

Many of them only have four or five designs, but his one has 24. Most of them are the basic blocks twisted and turned to see how they fit together, and these are interesting, but not show stoppers.

The second design is the basic block used in this series, in one of many possible colourings.

There are hundreds of ways to arrange the sixteen squares of the Drunkards Path pieces to create symmectrical blocks … these two designs are just two of them. Then ...

Vera’s Star 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

A one block design, with bits and pieces ignored or recoloured to create different designs.

I like the gentle curves in the centre of the block.

Autumn Patches OP 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

Colours of Australia … red and sandy soil, with some green starting to grow. Even trees in areas burnt out in the last two months are showing touches of green.

Interesting design.

Very interesting.

The Drunkard’s Path design caught my attention the first time I saw a block. Then I saw a sampler quilt with 15 different arrangements of the two shapes in the blocks, and I already had a few sketches of ones not included in that sampler.

I did some maths one day, and the total number of possibilities is a very long number, and that is for a block with 16 squares.

I know I will never find them all, but it is good fun playing, and I did work out a system for finding the best ones ...

Brooksea 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

I do like the second one!

A new challenge will be published later today … I have to proof read before hitting the publish button, but the garden may need some attention first after a very hot day yesterday.

For those who have expressed concern, we are well away from the fires around Australia, and as far as we know all friends are safe, though some have had close calls losing fences and feed.
