Logs on Point + 106, 107, 108, 109, 110 from Virtual Quilter

The title of this project file indicates it uses on point settings and the plus sign indicates that the blocks include variations of the basic Log Cabin block.

The first design above uses variations of colouring mostly, but there are some Courthouse Steps blocks amongst them.

The second design is very similar, but with eight Curved Log Cabin blocks.

Four curves in the third, but there are also Chimneys and Cornerstones.

Sixteen Curved Log Cabin variations in the one above, along with some Courthouse Steps, and basic Log Cabin in the border.

I love the last two!

More Log Cabin ...

Logs on the Pile 76, 77, 78, 79, 80 from Virtual Quilter

Mostly Chimneys and Cornerstones blocks in the first design, but tipped on point in this project file.

Not many Chimneys and Cornerstones in the second design, but some Curved Log Cabins.

It is going to be hard to pick a favourite today … maybe the one above …

… or maybe the one above!

There are not too many variations of the Log Cabin block not represented in these designs.

More Log Cabin quilt designs next week … mid week.

Log Cabin Mixed 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting Log Cabin quilt design, mostly Curved Log Cabin.

The second design is more interesting!

Love the third design!

And the fourth! Nothing boring about today’s logs.

Log Cabin blocks are easy to cut and construct, and their is no limit to the design possibilities.

That is all for this week’s Log Cabin retreat, but there will be more next week.

Cabin Fever Isolation Area 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 from Virtual Quilter

I have the urge every so often to play with Log Cabin blocks. This project has been around for a long time, with a LOT of quilt designs in it, but a large proportion of them have Thick and Thin blocks almost exclusively.

I have to admit that most of the designs are interesting, with some with the WOW factor, but the intention was to mix up all the variations of Log Cabin blocks.

The one above is rather nice, even if it is all just three colourways of the one block.

The next one couldbe quilted with lots of ...

Cabin Fever 121, 122, 123, 124, 125 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting!

I have turned eight blocks around, and not anywhere near as interesting.

Not too sure that I like the design above, but it might appeal to some people.

Like the one above … not too fussy, almost simple, but very appealing.

Five interesting Log Cabin designs this week!

I think my favourite is the first one, but love that they are all not quite the average layout for a Log Cabin quilt.

That is all for this week’s Log Cabin retreat … more designs next week, mid week.

Log Cabin Mixed 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

This project has variations of all the familiar Log Cabin, Chimneys and Cornerstones, Courthouse Steps and Curved Log Cabins.

Can you pick them all in todays designs?

I wonder how many different combinations are possible with a few colour placement variations are possible with this collection of blocks, and I wonder how many life times would be needed to find them all … though some computer nerd may be able to set up a program, but how long would it take a human to inspect them all!!!

I can see some intriguing ideas in each and every design.

No favourite ...

Curved Cornerstones + 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 from Virtual Quilter

I am glad I do not have to make a choice from today’s designs to go and buy fabric and start cutting! there is not a lot to separate them so I think i have started with my least favourite, but still very much a favourite.

The second one looks more like a beaded project than Log Cabin Cornertstones.

My first thought when I opened this design was ‘look at those round corners’.

The one above would make a stunning tiled floor, or perhaps a feature wall.

I would like to add some wide borders to all of these ...

TNT Logs + 96, 97, 98, 99, 100 from Virtual Quilter

Middle of the week again … they are coming around at record speed, or it may be that I am getting slower!

For the initiated, TNT means Thick and Thin, which is how the curves are formed in these designs with no curved seams to sew. I like the one above, but like it more with just a slight change shown below.

I have reached design 100 in this project file, and there are over 400 as yet unseen designs in waiting, and they all use assorted combinations of just six blocks, or more correctly six colourways of one block. If ...

Cabin Fever Christmas Edition 56, 57, 58, 59, 60 from Virtual Quilter

Middle of the week, time to share some Log Cabin designs … in Christmas colours, of course.

I like the first one …

… the second one is a bit different!

Love the one above!

Very different!

Love the last!

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Log Cabin Mixed 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

Not the sort of thing I normally share on a Thursday, but that is what happens I don’t finish the first coffee on a Wednesday morning … this week’s mid week retreat got misplaced!

The second one is also interesting … this is what happens if you want to make a Curved Log Cabin quilt in the barn raising layout, but make it a bit different because you have some Courthouse Steps blocks you want to use up.

Now i have a Barnraising Curved Log Cabin with four Courthouse Steps blocks.

I am starting to like what is happening ...

Black and Gold Logs and Lillies 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and a Challenge from Virtual Quilter

I see this series as the back view of Log Cabin quilt … but I wonder what colours would be on the front.

If you look closely the blocks are not the regular Log Cabin blocks, but Curved Log Cabin, and if you look even closer, some of the blocks have the curves on the opposite side of the blocks.

Now I am wondering what these designs would look like with colour added … I guess my personal challenge will be to add some contrast to these designs in between bouts of gardening during the next week.

I think I will try ...

Cabin Fever Quilted 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 from Virtual Quilter

Wednesday already, so here are some Log Cabin designs to study during a coffee break.

I think I would like most of the quilting designs on these quilts as whole cloth designs … or a real quilt could be used upside down.

I have used a lot of light fabrics so the quilting shows clearly, but in a real quilt I would probably quilt the dark blocks following the seam lines, and use more decorative lines in the light pieces. The one above is very similar to the one below, but with less dark fabrics … and one quilted design worked the ...

Cabin Fever Isolation Area 46, 47, 48, 49, 50 from Virtual Quilter

Middle of the week and there are five Log Cabin designs for you to study over a coffee break.

I like the first one.

All the blocks are Curved Log Cabin blocks, also known as Thick and Thin Log Cabin, some with light one side and dark the other, others are all either light or dark.

I like the one above too …

… but the last one is my pick of the day.

More Log Cabin designs next week … mid week.

Logs on Point + 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 from Virtual Quilter

Wednesday already … it is going to be a short week, but someone I spoke to yesterday thought it was Friday, so her week is shorter than mine!

I liked the Curved Log Cabin blocks used in the centre of the borders of the first design, but i like the second design with Log Cabin blocks on point around the second design, because it looks more orderly.

Straight border again, but I think this one would look better with those two Curved Log Cabin blocks in the borders.

Yes, I think it looks much better … how about you?

Something totally different ...

Applique Logs 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 from Virtual Quilter

Lots of light fabrics for the half light and half dark, and for the all light blocks, and a strong contrast for the dark fabrics … then add some applique … and then some quilting .

A lot more dark in the second design, but still plenty of spaces for some applique to be added.

I like the third, but I don’t think it would look great on a bed as part of the effect of the overall design would be lost over the edge of the bed.

The on above is my favourite for today.

Last one for this weeks coffee ...

Less Logs in the Cabin 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting. Also neat and tidy.

Very interesting.

I have had my mid week retreat. I selected these designs from the project file and had a good look at them during a coffee break. Hope you can do the same.

I like the outer row of blocks … looks like a very solid fence line to me.

My favourite for the day is above!

I have to admit that selecting Log Cabin designs is usually just selecting a project file, and using the next five designs … today I had a coffee break after that part and just studied the selected designs before ...

Cabin Fever Quilting from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

SAme blocks, different quilting. I like it more than the first one.

Above is a monotone Log Cabin quilt, or the side which most quilters just have to have a look at, no matter how great the front of the quilt looks.

I love the one above …

… and the last design for today.

More Log Cabin designs next week, mid week!

Logs on Point 61, 62, 63, 64, 65 from Virtual Quilter

Mid week again, and we are heading home after a week catching up with family and friends.

The first design for the day is neat and tidy, the second one is much more exciting!

The one above is one of the first times I saw fish in a Log Cabin design!

Interesting!

There’s those fish again!

That’s all for this week’s midweek retreat … but there will be more next week.

Curved Cornerstones 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 from Virtual Quilter

Middle of yet another week, and even though we are not confined to home, we are staying here except for necessities. There is not much else to do anyway as pretty much everything on the calendar has been cancelled.

Curved Cornerstones was a result of me asking myself a question … What if Chimneys and Cornerstones got mixed up with Curved Log Cabin blocks?

The results are interesting!

I like the one above, but it needs a bit of dark in the centre, and so does the one above that!

If we have to stop socializing for long enough I may ...

Applique Logs 77, 78, 79, 80 from Virtual Quilter

Some extra Log Cabin designs after having a brain fade and preparing an extra four designs after a visitor disrupted my morning yesterday. I like an excuse for an extra coffee break anytime, though perhaps the extra coffees shared with the visitor was a bit overboard.

Interesting shapes created by the Curved Log Cabin blocks in these designs, including the one above.

More interesting shapes, both above and below!

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.
