It hit me yesterday, standing in the kitchen.  This is 2019…and African Acents: Fabrics and Crafts to Decorate Your Home was published in 1999.  OMG, is it realy 20 years since I wrote my first book? My baby is 20 years old??  It took me several minutes and a glass of Gewurztraminer to process it.  The book that launched the Cultured Expressions brand. Wauw…

Thank you to everyone who bought the book, shared it, gave it as a gift or otherwise helped it to reach a second printing before it was “retired” by the publisher.   Here’s a little ...

SewJourn Colorado – Friends, Fun, Fabric, Food…and Wine! from Cultured Expressions

We’ve just returned from one of CE’s best SewJourns ever!! Thanks to our participants and partners for another creative and relaxing experience in the Colorado mountains, just outside of Denver. It was our first Wine Lovers’ Quilt Retreat, and definitely not our last!    Check out these pix…

As you can see, African fabrics were the choice for the weekend. I was pleasantly surprised at how much we each accomplished creatively, wondering how the wine theme might affect productivity.  And apparently, it gave us a boost.  We stayed up latest the evening of our wine tasting, beautifully led by ...

Downed Trees and Creativity… from Cultured Expressions

Here in NJ spring is apparently on backorder, as we’re now in the midst of our fourth “Nor’easter” in as many weeks…BUT, there’s an upside, a definite connection between downed trees and creativity.

The trees that fell victim to these storms are giving us the gift of fresh limbs we can use to hang our fiber art, and more!  If you’ve  been to a Cultured Expressions trunk show, you know how much I love the look of tree branches to hang African fabrics, so when this tree came down at my mother-in-law’s house, Glen ...
