Show and Tell, "Have Faith" from Baby Boomer Quilting Bee

Sharing a finish made by friend Darla Chauvin, who used my pattern, "Have Faith", for someone who was recently diagnosed with cancer.  The Have Faith pattern was  introduced earlier this year on "Confessions of a Fabric Addict" during the 2018 Hands to Help Challenge.

Darla's color palette was selected for a masculine version and is simply stunning.  Thank you Darla for sharing.

I also recently came across another "Have Faith" quilt posted at "Selina Quilts", who made the quilt for a WWII veteran.  Thank you Selina for sharing your finish.

A Block by Block from Sew........This Is My Blog

Our local quilt shop, Patches and Stitches, is celebrating their 40th Anniversary. One of their celebration activities is a Block by Block sew-along.  (Oh, yeah, and a 40% discount on a different item or category every week.  But we won't talk about that.)  The owner of the shop designed a quilt using forty different block designs.  Customers received block patterns two at a time as well as directions for the quilt layout.   The first forty customers to return to the shop with a completed quilt, having used all forty blocks in it, received a $40 gift certificate from Patches ...

Hypnotic from Sew........This Is My Blog

May seems to be going much better than last month as far as goals go.  I'm "this close" to completing the batik quilt I started at the beginning of the month.

These two blocks make up the design.  The pattern is "Hypnotic" from the Book Strip Therapy 2 by Brenda Henning.

I tried to lay out the blocks in a different way than the pattern dictated, but I couldn't come up with anything I liked better.  I do like the original design.

I knew I needed to make 32 blocks, but after they were made and I started ...

Hands 2 Help from Sew........This Is My Blog

Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict hosts a quilt drive called Hands 2 Help.  Each year she offers the opportunity to make and donate quilts to specific, well chosen charities. For 2018 the chosen recipients are Little Lambs Foundation for Kids, Quilty Hugs for Happy Chemo through Em's Scrapbag, and Victoria's Quilts Canada.

In March I completed two quilts which I made from Tom & Jerry fabric I had cut out to make pajamas for my grandsons -- about TEN years ago!

The blue one .....

..... the orange one.

Both quilts are going to The Little Lambs Foundation for Kids ...

Goal Met - T-Shirt Quilt Update from Sew........This Is My Blog

It took a while, but I met my February goal.  The t-shirts are officially a flimsie, and it's ready to be basted and quilted.

I'm pretty excited about this one.  I really laid out a challenge for myself when I decided to be creative with it.  I was able to incorporate all the elements I had hoped to.  I was able to use the fabric from Hawaiian shirts Josh's Gramma Lopez had made for him .....

..... and Grampa Lopez's sweatshirt from Josh's University.

I used several t-shirt necklines .....

..... some mildew stained, raggedy sleeve edges .....

..... even a ...

Mystic Ponds Finish from Baby Boomer Quilting Bee

My sweet hubby installed hooks on our patio for me to take pictures (I think he was tired of holding my quilts for photos).  I had a huge box of batik scraps and decided one of my patterns, "Mystic Ponds" would be perfect.  Taking a few liberties with the pattern, I made the quilt a little scrappier and widened the border.  I wanted to only use the stash on hand, so some of the pieces were smaller than called for.

A sneak at the backing fabric - I tend to buy large pieces when they are on sale, so they don ...

Doll Quilts from Sew........This Is My Blog

Small quilt projects that can be completed quickly are such fun especially when they're cute, little doll quilts.  Last week when I shared about sewing for A Doll Like Me, I still needed to stitch down the binding on the turquoise quilt. That went together so quickly I couldn't wait to make another one.

Today was a cold, rainy day here, a good time to make a second doll quilt.  Pink this time.

I'm a Boy Mom (and a Boy Gramma, too, actually) so there aren't any dolls around here to use for staging a cute ...

Another March Finish and a Stash Report from Sew........This Is My Blog

Whew!  I finished my 6 & 6 in 2018 and my Scrap Attack March goals by the skin of my teeth.  Not really, I still have almost five hours left in the month, but I need to rest once in a while.  It did help that I was able to use the same project for both goals, but it's still two finishes this month, and I like it.  A few days ago I told you about the blue Tom and Jerry quilt I finished.  Today I finished the orange quilt.

I backed it, quilted it, and bound it with yellow ...

Scrap Attack 2018 - February Report from Sew........This Is My Blog

February did not go anything like I thought (or hoped) it would.  Between having the flu for 8 days, recovering for several days, and playing catch-up with cleaning and laundry, I didn't get into my sewing room much at all.

My February Scrap Attack goal was to cut up my green stash into useable pieces.  This was a much bigger goal than I had set last month which was to cut up the blue stash, and I didn't have a lot of time to do it.  This is what it looked like before.

As with my blue stash ...

Scrap Attack 2018 - January Report from Sew........This Is My Blog

I can't believe it's already time to report on what I accomplished for January's Scrap Attack and to set a goal for February.  I was glad my grandson pulled "Cut Up Blues" from my bag of goals last month.  I knew it would be easy because I am definitely not a blue person, and I don't have much of a blue stash.  This is what it looked like then .....

It looks like I had way more than I did, mainly because when I unfolded them most of the pieces looked like this .....

.... and this.

It didn ...

70273 Project Update and a Stash Report from Sew........This Is My Blog

In this post I told you about The 70273 Project and that I was putting together quilt tops from bundles of blocks I had volunteered to sew together.   There was a bit of a learning curve figuring out how to get the blocks to all fit into one top, but I enjoyed it.   I learned on the second top that I had made it harder than it needed to be, and it went a lot faster.

Each block is numbered and records are kept of who made which block.  The challenging part for me was drawing a map of how ...

Scrappy Strings Progress from Sew........This Is My Blog

I've made a dent (a teeny, tiny one) in my strings basket since I started making blocks last week for Covered in Love.  It's been kind of fun to do some basically mindless sewing.  Mainly because there's no dreaded math involved!

The strings basket was an overflowing mess.

I just started pulling out strings and scraps, ironing them, and stacking them into piles.  A lot of piles.

I got tired of that and got back to sewing blocks.  Added to the blocks I made last week, I have 20 blocks to mail to Kat and Cat for ...

Strings Galore from Sew........This Is My Blog

Another one of my goals for 2018 is to set aside a week out of each month to work on donation quilts.  Kat's Covered in Love project provides comfort quilts to the families of East Texas hospital patients who have passed away.  For this year's block drive they are asking for 10.5" string blocks with no restrictions on colors or prints.  (If you're interested in sending a few blocks their way check out the details HERE.)

For the foundations I'm using up some fabrics I doubt I will ever use for anything else.  You know ...

Scrap Attack Goal - January from Sew........This Is My Blog

It's the first Wednesday of the month, and that means it's time to see what my Scrap Attack Goal is for January.  I had my grandson pull a slip from the bag.

Hooray!  It's an easy one.  The first goal for the year is to cut up my blue scraps into useable pieces.  (Can you tell I'm glad?)

Fortunately my pile of blue scraps is on the smallish side.

Well, maybe it's not that small, but wait until you see the greens!

I've started with the smaller pieces, pressing and stacking. The plan is ...

A "Simple Stripes" Finish from Sew........This Is My Blog

I came across a cute pattern from Diary of a Quilter (by Amy Smart) called "Simple Stripes" and decided it would be perfect for my 10th quilt donation to Choose Life of North Alabama, my 14th finish for this year.  The tutorial is free on her site or as a PDF if you want to print and save it for later.  I decided on blues, greens, and yellows (brights, of course!) so into the stash I went.  I cut enough for way more than one quilt, mainly because I got caught up with all the fun fabrics and forgot to ...
