Working on three............ from Exuberant Color

I steam pressed the colorwash wallhanging from the back side and then trimmed it.  I found a binding fabric and cut the hanging sleeve.  Now there is no excuse for not finishing it.

Next I decided to sew the half square triangle for the Bear Paw block that I was happy with.

The claw part of the block is sewn so I might as well go ahead and sew some more.

And now the first block is sewn.

I think I'm going to change out some parts on the other Bear Paw block so it remains on the design ...

Basting done........... from Exuberant Color

I got the basting done on my floral colorwash but I'm not going to stress over whether I can get it quilted and bound for a finish this month.  It might be the first finish of October.

When I was filling the bird feeders I noticed I have 2 different colors of Four o'clocks.  The pinker ones are on a plant that has been laying down across the ground and it usually wasn't blooming at the same time as the other 3 plants.

So, in the end I got 2 colors out of pack of mixed color ...

Colorwash sewn........... from Exuberant Color

I finished sewing the floral colorwash last night.  It is 30" square.  I had the iron on beside me and pressed after I sewed each row and that worked so much better than pressing after it is all sewn.

I wanted to show you some of the fabrics that were on the purple shelf.  The leaves on the one on the right are more of a periwinkle lean toward purple than they show here.  It is from the 1990s.

The one on the left only has a little purple in it but it ended up on that shelf.  The one ...

Partially sewn.................. from Exuberant Color

I have the floral colorwash 2/3 sewn in one direction.  Maybe I will get it finished today.

I went through the Kaffe flying geese box and pulled out all of the ones in the colors of the orphan blocks.  I don't know if they will remain on the right edge or if they will stay in the order they are now.  Just in the gathering stage right now.

The Redbuds are just ready to open and we have a small amount of snow predicted for tomorrow.  It is going to go down below freezing two nights so I ...

Final layout............ from Exuberant Color

After going through over 150 purple fabrics I found 4 to cut and try in this floral colorwash.  I did some rearranging in the brown/rust/red area and think I have done the best I can for a smooth transition.  Now I will sew it.

I removed a quilt top from this double design wall so I put the friendship star blocks there.  The last 5 blocks are mostly duplicates to these so I might not have to do much rearranging.

I picked a small bouquet and it shared the windowsill with some newly potted cactus starts.  They are ...

Colorwash filled in, star block progress.............. from Exuberant Color

I finally came up with enough pieces to fill in the holes in the floral colorwash.  I can see one place I might need to change but I'm fairly happy with it.

I am really low on purple fabrics that work well and I haven't seen any online that I would want to order.  I'll go deep diving in the purple shelf one more time.

I got in my exercise yesterday mowing the front yard.  Two neighbors had mowed so I decided to join the crowd.  The back yard won't need mowing for a week or ...

Another project............ from Exuberant Color

This was my design wall when I walked into my studio yesterday morning.

This was the design wall by the end of the afternoon.  I need to find some more fabrics to finish the bottom corner.

The purple violets have started blooming and  there are lots of them all over the back garden.

There are a few white violets too and a lot more will show up in the grass.  I know many people think they are weeds but I love them.  As a small child I used to pick bouquets of purple violets and yellow buttercups along a little ...

Playing with fabric............ from Exuberant Color

I was looking for possible border fabric for my Hattie's choice quilt.  I want to cut them lengthwise so I don't have to have a seam in them.  I think the seam would be so obvious in this type of fabric.  I think these 2 are possibilities.  The blue one has sections that look like a huge hibiscus bloom.

This is another one that I had larger yardage of but I haven't put it up against the quilt blocks yet.  I think it might be too distracting.  I still have one more block to make so I ...

Super stripes.......... from Exuberant Color

My Amaryllis is showing off with 6 of the 8 blooms open.

It's hard to get a good picture of them.

The flower stalks are so tall but haven't started leaning over so far.  The metal loop should hold them if they do lean.

I'm still cutting colorwash kits and will be for the rest of this week.  It takes about 10 days to go through all of the fabrics and choose which to cut and press them to prepare for die cutting.  I can only work about 4 hours a day standing on the cement floor ...

Proof of finish......... from Exuberant Color

I'm publishing a second post today to get these finishes in at the end of the year.

Finish #19 for 2020

Yardbirds Circling the Cat wallhanging finished before midnight Dec. 31, 2020.  It is approximately 32" square.  Hand finished binding.

The back is a mottled batik.

Finish #20 for 2020

You might remember this mini colorwash I made while I was teaching my Colorwash360 class.  The little squares finish at 1"

On the back I added the folded squares at the corners so a rod can be put in on any side for hanging.  I don't normally count ...

A finished quilt top........... from Exuberant Color

This quilt top was waiting for me to make a decision on borders.  I almost finished without borders but I'm glad I reconsidered them again.  It is 35" x 42.25".

I also sewed and pressed the backing seam and got the backing and batting loaded on the longarm. The top is just laying there, not stitched on yet.

A friend gave me a gift certificate so I could choose my own Amaryllis bulb.  They also had a stake so I ordered that too.  I had the grapevine basket from an amaryllis many years ago so I was glad ...

Assembly............ from Exuberant Color

I had my last live broadcast for the current Colorwash 360 online class yesterday.  I started cleaning off my cabinet so I could start assembling this plaid quilt that I showed on my design wall a few weeks ago.

As promised yesterday here is the close up of my little 12" colorwash.  I think I'm going to change one of the red squares in the top row before I finish it.  It is bugging me.

12" colorwash sewn........... from Exuberant Color

Before and after tweaking but before sewing.  The lighting wasn't as good in the one on the right but I think you can see I changed pieces to get a smoother value transition.

Here they are in comparison to the 40" colorwash, left photo before tweaking and sewing, right photo after tweaking and sewing 12" colorwash.  I'll get a close up photo to post tomorrow.

It's blooming season now for the cactus.  Lots of buds and 2 blooms fully opened on this one and buds ready to pop on the pink and white ones.

And 24 hours later........... from Exuberant Color

I knew there was snow in the forecast but didn't think it looked like we would get it....but we did.  It didn't stick around for long but it sure looks like an early winter again.

I wanted to play with my 1.5" batik squares that I cut from scraps.  I didn't know if there would be enough variety to do a colorwash that will finish at 12" square.  Today I will take out the pieces that aren't working well and cut some new ones to fill in.

Sewn together............. from Exuberant Color

I completed the sewing on my colorwash top.  It is about 40" square.  I rotated the photo all 4 ways but decided I like it best just like I designed it.

My Viburnum bush is really pretty this year.  I think it has only turned completely into these beautiful colors a handful of times since I planted it in 1995.  Usually just one or 2 branches turn and then the leaves fall off.

I searched for how to get green tomatoes to turn red and this is what 2 of the sites showed.  A banana with just a little green ...

2/3 of seams sewn................ from Exuberant Color

I have sewn 13 cross seams, 6 to go so I am 2/3 of the way done.  I had a few sidetracks yesterday.

One of them was sewing 5 more masks.  Some had denim on one side and plaid flannel on the other, some had plaid flannel on one side and batik print on the other side.

Indoor garden season is starting.  I have buds on 8 plants.  This white one was my super bloomer last year.

Rows sewn in one direction.......... from Exuberant Color

I alternated between washing windows and sewing rows yesterday.  All rows sewn in one direction.  Now I have to turn on the iron.

We started out close to 70 degrees yesterday morning and were down in the 40s by afternoon.  It was predicted to go down to 30 by morning so I covered my tomato plants again.

Sewing started........... from Exuberant Color

I didn't change any more pieces in the colorwash and after my live session was done I started sewing.  I'm almost to the halfway point of sewing in one direction.

From Wednesday late afternoon and through the night into yesterday morning we got over 3" of rain.  We haven't had that much rain in one day for months.  More rain expected.

Today I am going to seriously work on washing the insides of my windows and hope to make it most of the way through the house.

Final............. from Exuberant Color

Just one photo of the colorwash today.  This is the FINAL layout.  I'm not going to even consider changing anything today.  Each change (8 yesterday morning) includes taking a photo, loading the photo into the computer, studying the photo, back to the design wall, repeat, repeat, repeat.

Yesterday afternoon I baked some Amish Friendship Bread.  A friend gave me some of the starter earlier in the summer and I froze 3 portions in September so I could pull it out and bake on a cool day.

The corners........... from Exuberant Color

I'm finally happy with the blue corner.

The red/rust corner is better now too.

I was already pretty happy with the green and brown corner.

The camera isn't kind to the purple corner.  It is a combination of blue purples and red purples.

I did some changes in the center and was quite pleased until I see a photo of it.  I guess I'll have to look at it again this morning.

I did a little change where the orange meets the green too.

This is yesterday's photo for comparison.

I spent a couple hours ...
