The title of this post is actually the title of a class (and project) developed by Susan Cleveland; our guild brought her here last week for a lecture, a trunk show, and a couple of classes. One of the classes was to learn her Dresden Plate technique, which I’ve used and really like; it ensures […]
read moreThis morning I had an appointment in Olympia at 10:30 am. I told Ron I would walk after I got back home, around 1 pm.
Patrick and I were early to the appointment. I was surprised they wanted me 30 minutes early. We left early in case of traffic, which was very little. So, we stopped at Fred Meyers to pick up an onion for supper. Then we drove around Tumwater because the freeway entrance was blocked due to construction. Even with all that I was about 40 minutes early. I went to the restroom and just sat down ...
read moreToday I was doing the usual in the morning. Around 11 am Ron was out walking. I ran out to meet up with him. He thought I was not going to walk today. Told him that was tomorrow. So, we walked. Then came in the house and got ready for my Brazilian embroidery class with Loretta Holtzburger.
First things first. We had to put a stem stitch on so that we could work with the flower. This is done with colonial knots. I was able to get that much done. I have about 1/4 of it done. I also ...
read moreOH MY!!!!! I didn't take a single picture yesterday. In fact, I was a total slug all day, and I loved it!
I did grab a couple of pictures this morning, but nothing earth-shattering.
So what did I do all day? I was on the phone quite a bit. I know --- I had to break the "vow" of silence to get some work and family business done. Mission accomplished, but now I have some follow-up to do. It's always that darn follow-up that kills me. But if I get some of it done today and forget the quilting ...
read moreToday I was up after Patrick went golfing. I played games for a little bit before getting moving. I had a call from Diane (from Spokane) that is QOV related. I haven't chatted with her in over 2 years now. We chatted a good 45 mins! She's a blast. We talked about what is going on and she was asking if we still needed quilts. I told her we are doing pretty good right now. I told her we have 59 requests and about 30 quilts ready to present. We are still working on it.
Patrick arrived while ...
read moreI LOVE that Adaptive Cruise Control and see I'm not alone. I bet many people do not know what it is or how to use it properly! Sigh................. Like most things, it takes a bit of getting used to! The first couple of times I used it, I didn't trust the car, and I still keep alert for the speed of the vehicles in front of me. But it's a fantastic safety feature -- if you have it, learn how to use it! And it does a great job!

read moreThis morning I cut some asparagus for Phil. First I had to stop at Safeway for lunch. Then stopped at Phil's to drop off the asparagus.
Last stop was at The Gathering Place. Mom was teaching a Judging class. So, when I arrived there was a couple people already there. Jeannie Austin was there as well!! I was go excited to see her!! Love that lady!! Gave her a big hug. Nancy showed up shortly there after. I sat between them. We had 18 people show up. Mom passed out her papers and of course the gal next to ...
read moreMy art quilt group, Art2Quilt, started a new challenge. Everyone made a quilt to pass to another member. We will each create our own quilt using some aspect of the quilt received as inspiration.
I didn’t finish my quilt to pass and had to use something previously made. There was a mix of new quilts and previously completed quilts. Even though the quilts are smallish, we decided one month felt rushed and two months to complete our quilts would work better.
I forgot to ask the maker if I could post her quilt, so I will only show the ...
read moreToday we move on to another fun technique: a lined patch pocket. I kinda made this up along the way (my first photos are not included because I figured out a better way…this is the revised and improved method!). The flannel is SO soft and comfy–in part because the weave is dense but not terribly tight. That means I might be able to wear holes in the bottom of the pockets, so I decided to give them some strength and structure by adding a lining. The hand-dyed blue was in my stash and worked well enough I also ...
read moreThis morning I had to leave early since I had our BE meeting. Mom wanted me to go over to her place today and figured the only way to do that is to arrive before the meeting. Of course, I will be late.
I arrived and we figured out how much fabric she needed for the Hawaiian quilt that she's making. She wanted me to order it, so I did. Then we had to order the wool batting as well. Told her to meet us at the Grange after she gets her breakfast.
I picked up tea and coffee ...
read moreLast summer I pieced a quilt top called Metropolis II by Heidi Pridemore, and that top has been “marinating” while I considered how I wanted to quilt it. I’d finally decided that I wanted to use some of the designs that Sue Heinz has in her repertoire and which would work very well in this […]

And now it's back to regular work!
I still have a bit of work to finish the follow-up e-mails, and then it's heads-down in Studio B and the computer to get everything else done that needs to be completed this week. Another busy week, to be sure, and more classes this weekend need some prep work!
Lexi was a bit miffed at me in the morning because her usual spot to lean against the wall was occupied with stuff that needed to go downstairs.

This morning Patrick was out the door before 8 am for golfing. He usually goes at 9 but they decided to do 8 am - when it's cold outside. I went back to sleep!
I played on my jigsaw puzzle. I was waiting for Debbie to arrive at 11:15 am. We got her set up in the computer room. We both signed in at 11:45 am. There were 19 of us learning how to use the new program for QOV. They are getting ready to do the turn out in February. We have to be trained before we ...
read moreTime has slipped past me while playing with our new dog and having a fun trip to the Houston show, but I have two new quilts to post here, neither of which is my usual “stuff”. First of all, while I absolutely love free-motion quilting, I’ve been wondering what it is about quilting in the […]
read moreToday I was able to get my laundry going. I had gotten behind. Amazing how fast the laundry grows with 2 people in the house!
While I was working on the laundry I was working on Quilts of Valor stuff. I needed to get a few envelopes ready for presentations. I was able to do about 30 envelopes that will last awhile. I also did the 3 certificates that I know. I'm still working on who the last person is that is receiving a quilt. I did text Nancy, but probably won't hear back on that. I do ...
read moreToday started out early. Had to head out the door and get my routine done. First, bank, second, bowling alley, stopped for tea, and on to the grange.
There was three of us again today. I can't wait for more people to show up! Had a good meeting. Showed what I learned in class and worked on my Five Alive piece.
I finished the leaves. Then I tried to do the bud area. I was able to put a couple hours in on it. Cindy gave me some tea from the Russian shop in Tacoma.
Once that was over ...
read moreToday I was up about an hour before class. Patrick let me sleep. lol - So I got moving and got set up for our meeting. Since we had a big wind storm last night, all the leaves in the back yard went to the open field next door. Good thing our tree was cut down already.
I have learned something about myself. Actually, I've known it for some time now. I can get up and work like mad all day. But if I have an interruption to my schedule, I'm a zombie for the rest of the day. Case in point, I had a trunk show yesterday morning, which went very well and was not far from home. Hello to all the members of the Busy Hands Quilt Guild in Cambridge.
Then I got home in time to join the Monday Sewing Group for a bit, and well, instead of logging off at the ...
read moreAbout a week ago, I posted the first part of a little quilt I’d begun in a class. Since that time, I’ve finished that top, as well as a second one. Unfortunately, I don’t particularly like the results, so I doubt that I’ll actually finish them. Here’s the first one, begun in class. I think […]
