October doings! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Well, didn't October fly by quickly!  I was busy and then came down with a cold ..... but sewing did happen.

Our Canadian Thanksgiving was busy at the cottage.  There were two camper trailers, trailers for the ATV's, cars and trucks.  We decided that more space was needed to accommodate all the vehicles and the toys.  Next year we will be busy cutting down some trees to make space.  It will be good to open up the back a bit more for fire protection.

My Hubby's brother came for a visit.  I'm so glad that he came ...

September Results from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

October 1 .... the year is just zipping by much too quickly.

September was a good month for me, after all.  I was busy with wedding clothing alterations and helping out with rehearsal dinner and wedding brunch.  Glad that is over.

So, let's see what I did last month for the September Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge.

Binding got sewn onto this quilt and it is now finished.  This quilt won't be shown just yet as I'm adding in some hand quilting around the applique.  I know I'm fussy, but that is what makes me happy.  Sometime in ...

August and September Chookshed 2024 Stitchers Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Well, for the Chookshed 2024 Stitchers Challenge .... for August, my Lorna's Vine bin got taken off the shelf, a few pieces pinned onto my design wall ... a few decisions made on what the next few steps should be .... and that was it.  So, I failed there.  Oh dear me!  LOL

Instead of working on that challenge .... this project is what is keeping me grounded.  I just love working on the single hexies one at a time.  Great progress since my last photo.  There are now 3-1/4 rows done and all stitched together!  Yeah me!  The hexies that are ...

July Challenges from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

For July, the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge, the number to work on is #1 and this is it:

Alas, that project will be NOT be worked on after all.  There is a wedding quilt that needs to be started and made this month and that is what will be worked on instead.  My niece already knows about this quilt, so the pattern can be shown.
My Chevron Log blocks will continue to be worked on.  I try to get at least 2 blocks done per day.  The QAYG bit will be done later.
If time permits .... perhaps this fabric might ...

May Challenges from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Oh, what a month May has been for me.  Busy, busy, busy with appointments for hubby.

So, did anything get accomplished?  For the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge, nothing got done on this star project.  I did find the book (which was in the bottom of the bin), read through the next round of instructions and just put the book back in the bin with the project and closed the lid.  Oh dear!  That doesn't sound like a good start on getting this ufo worked on.

So, what did I do?

I worked on finishing this ufo instead and so ...

May Challenges from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

May has come ..... the grass is green ..... things are starting to sprout up in the garden.

With May comes new challenges.

For the Chookshed Stitchers Challenge 2024, this is my UFO to work on.  This project dates back to 2014.  I took a class when my friend Debra came up to our guild and taught us this pattern.   The book is someplace and I will need to find it to figure out how to do the rest.  If not, then I will need to put on my thinking cap and figure it out!

I will also still work on my ...

April challenges from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

April has been a busy month with appointments, a sick cat and family functions.  Not much got accomplished in my studio, but I'm very happy at what got done.

Now, our sick cat.  It all started a couple of weeks ago, when I tried putting Ridley outside on a harness.  He absolutely freaked out.  He did not want to be outside and once back inside he started throwing up his food.  A number of days later and a visit to the vet and x-rays showed nothing there to cause the sickness.  He was given meds to stop the nausea ...

March Chookshed Stitchers Challenge update from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

March was a bit of a dud for me ...... my quilting mojo went to sleep and not as much got done.

Why?  Well ..... we have a new member of our family.  Meet Ridley.  He came to our back door and after posting on local FB pages to see if someone owned him and even after bringing him to SPCA for microchip scanning, no one has come forward and we have decided to keep him.  He is so friendly and loving and used to people and kids.

He captured hubby's heart and that was it .... he is ours now.  I ...

Oh, those challenges! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

February is over and now I can tally up what was done for that month with the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge and my monthly binding challenge.

February was such a busy month for me outside my studio.  Lots and lots of appointments for hubby and school pick-ups and hosting hubby's 75th birthday.  I'm lucky to have got done more than I thought.  It appeared that I didn't do anything, until I started adding up what I actually did.  Surprised me!  Bonus!

First off, all of these quilts now have their hanging sleeves and there are no more ...

February Chookshed Stitchers Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Well, well, well .... January was a good month for me in getting stuff done for the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge.

I was able to get borders onto my donation top and it will be going to the LAer soon.
Even though this EPP piece wasn't part of the January challenge, this was worked on and 3 rows on the top and bottom were added.  It is not part of the February challenge, either .... but will be worked on again as I do want this project done sooner, rather than later.
Last month, four pieces of batting got frankenpieced and ...

Donation top from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Do you remember seeing this photo with these blocks?

Well, this is what has been done so far with them.  The block size went from 6-1/2" unfinished to 9" unfinished with the addition of triangles on the sides.  Applique is being added to the blue squares.  They just didn't look right without the applique.
Hopefully, this will be a finished top by the end of this week and I can add one donation top done this month for the Chookshed Stitchers Challenge.

Cherish your day, cherish your life!

Challenge Update from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Here we are at the end of the second week of January and how am I doing with this challenge?

Borders got added to this Xmas top.

Here are photos of some of the fabrics used.

Hanging sleeves got added to this quilt!  The red/blue is a very old quilt, but never had a hanging sleeve.  Now it has and is hanging up instead of being draped over a railing.
Here is the quilt hanging up with all my other red/white/blue quilts.  My hubby loves this quilt.  He sees exploding stars every time he looks at it ...

#6 for the Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

The Chookshed Stitchers Challenge is off to a good start.  Well, for me anyway!

#6 was pulled for January.

Now, I could choose what I like and have chosen to work on a donation quilt.  There will be a drop-off date in May and this is a good start.  I would like to have two to donate, but if only one gets done, I'm good with that.  These blocks don't look like much, but they will make up a lap size quilt.  You will just have to wait and see!  LOL

Next, some frankenpiecing of batting pieces for ...

Up for a Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

First off .... this is where I spent my Xmas holidays ..... sick with a cold and sleeping in this chair.  Xmas Eve, my sister picked up fruit from me and made the fruit salad for the morning festivities.  I was supposed to make it, but was in no condition to do the work.  Then, Xmas morning she picked up all of our gifts for the family and later dropped off hubby's and my gifts to us.  A niece sent us videos, so we were able to see some of what went on.  I'm feeling much better now, but still ...
