Final Celebrate - Fêtons 150 post from Quilting & Learning

The adventure started February 13th, 2017 with the first of six linking parties to Celebrate - Fêtons 150. There are still many celebrations happening across Canada but my big party is over.

It's been a real learning experience for me to host these link-ups. Not only did I have to learn the whole linking up system (thank goodness it was relatively painless!) but I also researched, found and shared all kinds of quilting projects and events to celebrate our 150th.

I didn't think that there would be much to say in this post, but ...

Today We Celebrate - Fêtons 150 from Quilting & Learning

Happy Birthday Canada!

Northcott's Map of Canada
Northcott's Map of Canada
Today is our 150th and Canadians are celebrating across Canada.

In Ottawa it's going to be crazy busy. I hope to celebrate quietly at home with my sewing machine :-)

I'm very happy to share with you the finished version of my Canada 150 Art Quilt.

This quilt was a great opportunity to practice many of the techniques that I learned at Hillary Rice's embellishment workshop. In my progress post of June 11th ...

Countdown to Canada - Fêtons 150! from Quilting & Learning

Quilt of Belonging coming to Ottawa
Countdown! In 9 days Canada will be 150!

As you can imagine, there are many events already under way and many more planned.

Quilt of Belonging

On June 23 the Quilt of Belonging will be displayed at the Ottawa City Hall until July 5. This should be on your list of things to see if you're in Ottawa during these dates. There are also visits planned to other Canadian cities, but if you can't make it, their website is well worth a look. See below in the Related Links.

The quilt of ...

Celebrate - Fêtons 150 in June from Quilting & Learning

June is here and it's only a little over a month to Canada Day, our 150th birthday!

The Celebrate - Fêtons 150 had a good month although the numbers are down for the link-ups. That's probably because everyone's slab blocks have been sent to Toronto in preparation for Canada's Biggest Quilt Bee. I don't think that I will be participating, but I hope to visit and take pictures while I'm at Quilt Canada 2017. Your intrepid reporter will bring back photos of all that's happening on the Celebrate - Fêtons 150 front!

May's winner ...

Celebrating 150 with Quilts from Quilting & Learning

150 years of quilting in Canada exhibitI've had a crazy busy week with Art with Fabric on Monday and then a two-day surface design course with Hillary Rice. I can't wait to write a post about my surface design experiments, but it'll have to wait a few days, cause today we're going to Celebrate - Fêtons 150 with some amazing quilts from the Ottawa Valley Quilter's Guild Show - Festival of Quilts 2017.

There was an exhibit of  "150 Years of Quilting in Canada" at the Festival of Quilts 2017. The quilt below fits right into our theme. The British Empire Quilt features ...

Celebrate - Fêtons 150 in May from Quilting & Learning

April has whizzed by, bringing with it lots of rain and some time to quilt! In Ottawa it looks like May will follow with more rain. If you can't be in the garden, you may as well be playing inside with colours of your own choosing.

Sew Fresh Quilts
Thank you so much for making this blogging event of success. There is so much talent and a lot of it is focused on celebrating Canada's 150th. I can't wait to showcase new ideas and projects each month.

It's time for the April draw. As you may ...

More Quilts to Celebrate from Quilting & Learning

Canada Quilt by Michelle Gagné
Canada Quilt by Michelle Gagné
I was finally able to attend the Common Thread Quilt Guild meeting this month. Our guest speaker was Michelle Gagné, an Ottawa professional long-arm quilter and prolific quilter. Here is her Canada quilt. I really like the way she made her centre red leaf.

Quilts completed for
Canada`s Biggest Quilt Bee

As for Canada`s Biggest Quilt Bee, our guild members have completed over 30 quilts and over a hundred blocks. I handed in my 6 blocks at the meeting since I`m not likely to finish a quilt top before they send these ...

Celebrate - Fêtons 150 in April from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to the third month of Celebrate - Fêtons 150!

Let's party with quilts this year! Twice a month this year I will preview some of the great patterns and events celebrating Canada's 150th,

Canada 150 pattern by
First thing - Celebrate - Fêtons 150 in March was a success with 11 link-ups. Including those from the More Celebrations the Quilty Way post (March 13, 2017), there was a total of 16 comments. The draw was based on 27, and number 7 was the winner - which is the link up from Kathy K. Wylie Quilts. It's ...

March Finishes from Quilting & Learning

Celebrate – Fêtons 150
What a month! It started with the second Celebrate – Fêtons 150 link-up and the draw of the first prize among those who left comments. Three Canada 150 fat quarters were sent to Susan from Quilt Fabrication.

The link-up has been a success!! There were eleven link-ups – and only one of them was my own :-) This month I also had my own celebration – 5 years of blogging and 150 posts! Thank you to everyone who participated in the link-ups, left comments and best wishes for my own anniversary. What an amazing online community.

I had two goals for ...

Getting Things Done from Quilting & Learning

When I come home from our monthly Out of the Box Fibre Artists meeting - I was all hipped up and didn't get to sleep until late. So many quilts, techniques and ideas....and never enough time!!!

This month's speaker, Sharon Collins, sure wowed me! For whatever reason, I'm totally intimidated by paint and fabric dye - but after seeing her work, I just have to learn this! She is creating these amazing landscape art quilts with her hand-dyed cotton, silk and silk organza. Some of her pieces have 4 or 5 layers. She uses a technique called flat ...

More Celebrations the Quilting Way from Quilting & Learning

Celebrate-Fêtons 150
Celebrate-Fêtons 150
Since I've been writing about the many ways that the Quilting Community is celebrating Canada's 150, I've been finding all kinds of great events and patterns. I've also discovered that some of the quilt designers I've been following are Canadian!

Before I get into more Canadian celebratory patterns, here's an update on my March OMG (One Monthly Goal) the Beaver block by Lorna from Sew Fresh Quilts. I'll write more about this project in an upcoming post, but I did want to show you my progress. It's now ready to ...

Celebrate - Fêtons 150
February was the first month of the
Celebrate - Fêtons 150 link-up. Unfortunately there were no link-ups (other than my own) but it's not surprising since the link up theme is rather narrow - any post celebrating Canada's 150th or Canada in general.

The post has been read by many, so I really hope that it's gotten you thinking about making something special to celebrate Canada's 150th.

Canada 150 Quilting Events and Projects from Quilting & Learning

There is a whole lot of celebrating going on! Canada's 150th anniversary is a big birthday, although compared to many countries, Canada is really only 150 years young! As you'll see, quilters across the country are doing what we do best - celebrating by buying fabric :-) as well as making and giving quilts.

Here are a few of the events and projects that I’ve come across. The links to these items are at the bottom of the post. If you find more of these, please let me know and I’ll include them in ...

Announcing a Linking Party with Prizes from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to the first Linking Party for Celebrate - Fêtons 150

We will be celebrating Canada's 150th birthday for the rest of 2017 and I'm hosting a special party for my 150th blog post in March!

I've been wanting to host a linking party for a while now, so once a month, I will be hosting a linking party to celebrate our planned, WIP and completed quilts and art quilts that are related to Canada and to our 150th birthday.

You don't have to be Canadian to participate! We are a polite, inclusive and fun loving country ...
