In this year when many of us put off regular checkups (and mammograms), it’s especially important to remind ourselves and our friends to get screened. According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%.

I met a young quilter whose mother was diagnosed with cancer. Right away, this sweet daughter began to put together a special “chemo quilt.” Each of the kids and grandkids contributed a block. The quilt was completed the day before the first treatment, and this brave grandmother was able to face her new journey wrapped in the love of her family.
