What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

Happy Friday! I have some updates to share (including a fun new quilt along) but first, I wanted to thank you for your kind messages from my recent Mother’s Day blog post. I always hesitate to share much about my personal life on the blog. Before I hit “publish”, I wonder if they (you) won’t be interested or you might think I’m “fluffing my feathers” with too many pictures of me and my family. Recently I did a quilt giveaway for 4 of my cousins.  I have many cousins, about 50, but these 4 are special.  I sent an email showing the 8 quilts I was willing to part with and asked them to choose 1 or two.  Ginny chose 1, Chris chose 2, Karen picked 3, and I didn't hear from Ellen.  The quilts were mailed off; then weeks later I got an email from Ellen, she'd picked a quilt and didn't hit send on her mail.  There was only one quilt left and I asked if she'd accept ...

Happy April!  We've had several deer visiting our yard lately. There's not much for them to eat this time of year and the hostas aren't sprouting up yet. The deer are usually munching on my hostas that I have planted in the yard and it seems they are visiting those areas in the yard. Belvedere is excited whenever he sees a deer in the yard.

No fabric in or out.

I finished the 14 star blocks for the 2016 BOM quilt. This pictures shows about half the blocks for the quilt. The stars don’t show that well in the photo (because of the lighting), but look fine in person.

Those blocks were my January OMG. It feels good to have that done and move on to the next thing I should have finished months ago.

January turned into one of those months when a whole lot of nothing got done. Best to put it behind me and move on.

Last month I talked about limiting active sewing projects to two, avoiding overwhelm. That didn’t happen either. Projects are everywhere. Again. I have a variety of projects to enjoy, depending on my mood.

It always feels good to start the year with a clean slate.

My stats from last week held and I finished the year down 5.625 yards. I’ll take any year when I use more than I buy.

I’m back to working on the Stars in the Night BOM having figured out where I left off. I have three blocks ready to sew together. Only eight more stars to go, and then I can move on to month five.

The original quilt had a dark teal background, thus the name.

New year, new projects, new approach.

I had a productive December with both a UFO and a garment finish. That means new additions to the list.

In 2021 I will keep the list shorter. In looking at finishes in comparison to 2020 goals, it was clear my goals were too ambitious. That pushed me to get a lot of projects done, but I don’t want to feel overwhelmed.

I also realized I need to limit the active sewing projects to two. I have a small cluttered sewing room, and if the projects exceed two I have to move everything ...

I've finally completed my last block-of-the-month of the year! Paper Chain is a paper-pieced block-of-the-month designed by Freshly Pieced. Out of the 4 block-of-the-months I've done this year, this one is perhaps the most traditional: 12 blocks, one block a month.

It's no secret I have an addiction to fabric - so this is always a sure win when buying a present for me, but as a quilter I quite often get asked what 'good presents' to buy are. So I thought I'd put together a little list of things that have caught my eye recently or that I generally can't do with out in case anyone was struggling with what to buy for the quilter/sewer/crafter in their life.

Stargazer, designed by Rebecca Bryan, is a block-of-the-month I did last year. It was a big challenge, and after I was done with it, I felt so physically and mentally exhausted that I didn't want to look at it for quite awhile. So I put it away for a whole year ... but I finally decided it's time to quilt this.

Handiwork is the 2nd colorway from the Build-A-Quilt program by Angela Walters, and unlike Urban Grid which felt a bit like a risk, I knew I loved this color palette the minute I saw it.

Late last year I decided to join the Build-A-Quilt program by Angela Walters. I had trouble deciding between 2 colorways, so I decided to just do both of them. The first one I've completed is Urban Grid.
