Blue and White free quilt patterns from Pieced Brain

Free pattern alert! Actually, I have two free patterns for you today - anything to make Friday the 13th more fun, right? I designed these two projects - Quilt 1 above and Quilt 2 below - for the beautiful Once in a Blue Mood fabric collection by Yolanda Fundora for Blank Quilting. Quilt 1 features a gorgeous floral panel...

... and Quilt 2 showcases all the other fabrics in this line in a chain design with dragonflies fluttering about on the center of the chains. The border has elongated scallops which are machine appliqued to the border - easy!

I loved working with Once in ...

Playing Catch-up ...Overlapping Dimensions from Sew Sunshine

Improv pieced, machine free organic plaid quilting

My Big Blue inspired challenge piece for an upcoming exhibit. Our LQG used a quilt for inspiration that was made by Ardis James back in 1983. We chose 7 blocks to remake, update, modernize or reinterpret whatever way you say it.  Each block has at least 3 people modernizing it. We ended up with 25 pieces turned in. The proposal for an exhibition has been submitted to the IQSCM for a possible exhibit in the spring. This outdoor photoshoot was so fun as my friend and fellow quilt buddy ...

Beautiful Cardinal Quilt from ~ CowgirlQuilter ~

Yesterday I quilted this beautiful customer quilt.  I just love it!  She did an awesome job piecing it too.  As I was quilting it I kept thinking that I needed one of those Cardinal panels.  I may end up buying one but then again who knows when I would have time to sew it up.  :)  Anyway...I enjoyed quilting this beauty.
We decided to use this quilting design because she didn't want the quilting to compete with the cardinals.  That's also another reason that I love Glide thread.  It's so fine that it doesn't take away ...

challenge accepted . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Shoulder recovery continues to go well . . . I'm still in the sling, which makes typing difficult.  So consider this post a labor of love!  ;)

Our guild -- Heritage Quilters of Huntsville -- helds its bi-annual challenge show at the July meeting, which was last Thursday, July 19th.
The challenge, Stitchin' the Blues, was introduced in November and involved creating a quilt using only blue and white fabrics, maintaining size parameters, and keeping projects top secret.  Which for me was the HARDEST part! But since the show has come and gone, let the revealing commence!

I had an idea almost the minute the ...

Patches of Blue from Pieced Brain

How do you like my Gingerbread Men? I decided to make it yesterday and did not get out of my sewing room until it was finished - I get in that mood sometimes!

I used scraps of navy blue fabric with different whites for the background. The shapes were fused in place and appliqued with my method of choice - machine stitched with blanket stitch and dark blue 40 wt thread. The quilting was done with Aurifil monofilament around the Gingerbread Men and on the ditch, then with 40 wt white all over.

That Santa Claus cracks me up every time I ...

Quilt Market Trends from Cheryl Lynch Quilts

Shopowners attend Quilt Market to learn about the latest trends.  They want to have the newest items in their shops.  Vendors also bring their newest designs and products.  The fabric that is showcased at Market won't be available in quilt shops until the Spring.

Each morning before the doors opened, I walked the aisles to get an overview and see the trends.  I noticed a few.
1.  Cork - cork that can be used like leather was everywhere.  There were natural colors, colors and prints.

Cork was mainly used for accents on handbags and bags themselves.

2.  Blue & White

Quilts and Pineapples from ~ CowgirlQuilter ~

This is the customer quilt that I quilted yesterday!  A childhood friend of my brother, hand pieced it.  I think he injured his back years ago and quilts occasionally to stay busy.  As I mentioned, he hand pieced this one.  I also will be doing the binding, which I will work on that today.  That is pretty much all that I have on my schedule for the day.  That will take up pretty much all of my day as I need to trim, square it up, cut and sew the binding by hand.
As soon as I got that quilted ...
