The Silver Lining from Quilting with Kimberly

The Southern Pacific Dogwoods which bloom in Lake Arrowhead in spring are spectacular!

Blooms larger than your hand!

How are you doing through this COVID-19 event? I pray you and your loved ones are healthy and well. If you have been affected by this terrible pandemic, I pray things improve quickly and you’re back to feeling as right as rain very soon.

As for me, I can’t believe how quickly the time has passed. Several months have gone by in a flash. But it didn’t start out this way. While we were lucky to return from an ...

May 24, 1975 from From the Strawberry Patch...

Forty five years ago we said " I do";  and today, I'm blessed to be dancing with the same partner. I'm thankful every day for this man, for our shared faith and commitment to God and His church, for families that have supported us along the way, for two healthy, loving children with families of their own, and for a lifetime of shared memories. Thanks be to God! "Love is patient and

Blessings, and QAYG from Elaine Adair Pieces

This  unexpected blessing showed up at my door today, from dear members of my husband's family.  Looks like I need to balance them a little.

I've been working on a little girl's pink QAYG.  In the past, I disliked finishing the sashing seam on the front, leaving forever stitches but recently learned a better method from Marti Machell.  Her sashing is finished on the front and with careful measuring and a lot of pinning on the back, and sewing in the ditch from the front, a pretty neat stitching line is the result on the back.  In ...

An infusion from Quilting with Kimberly

After a particularly trying and frustrating few days (for a variety of reasons) my sweet husband suggested we take a ride to the beach to see the sunset. It was cold and crisp and windy….”Good for clearing the soul,” he said. We drove to the beach and all the parking lots, parking spaces and even the beaches were closed because of the pandemic which made it difficult to find any good spot to watch the sunset. Rather than give up, he drove up the Palos Verdes Hill and we found a spot on a cliff overlooking the ocean where ...

I’ve joined a gang. from Quilting with Kimberly

The Sewing Arts Center famous ‘blue wall.” This is an iconic photo spot! My new Stitchin’ Babes Roadies: from left, Pat, Marie, and Melanie

Every gal needs a group of cronies where she can ‘belong’ and I’m no exception. Thankfully, I have found my gang and we’re calling ourselves the Stitchin’ Babes Roadies. (Cue: giggles.)

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I hosted the kit cutting party here at my house? (If you missed it, you can read about it by CLICKING HERE.) My friend, Melanie was there and I was asking about local quilt shops in ...

An SOS answered from Quilting with Kimberly

I’m not one who likes to ask for help. But recently, I found myself facing a task which seemed was so monumental I decided I needed to send out an SOS for help. And I’m so happy a small army of quilters armed with rotary cutters came to my rescue!

I’ll be teaching at Charlotte Angotti’s Biloxi Escape in a few weeks. The format for this retreat is for students to have three Progressive Mystery Classes taught by Charlotte, Karen K Stone, and myself. We each have designed a mystery quilt comprised of the equivalent of ...

Just in time…. from Quilting with Kimberly

…for Christmas!

I can’t believe I started this festive and fun quilt just a couple of weeks ago. I never dreamed it would be completely finished (with three days left to spare) before Christmas! The design is a variation of my Arrowheads quilt pattern that I debuted in my classes this year. When I taught the class at the Vermont Quilt Festival this past summer, one of my clever students had the idea to turn the arrowheads upside down to make Christmas trees. It was a brilliant idea!

I took the idea one step further and modified the pattern ...

Gratitude + Gifts + Goodness from Professional Quilter

This is Thanksgiving week in the United States.

It is one of my favorite holidays, and not just because it could be termed our National Day of Eating!

Gratitude

Many of us, myself included, take time to consider what we are grateful for this time of year. As I look around, I am surrounded by so many blessings. I have good health and a family who loves me. I have a dog who makes me laugh every day. I have friendships that I treasure. And I get to explore my creativity. My life is overflowing in goodness.

I am also ...
