2020 from Appalachian Quilts

You've seen a quilt similar to this one before - it's those stinkin cute Koalas!  The pattern is by Elizabeth Hartman and is called.....wait for it....."Koalas".  LOL  This customer made another baby quilt with this pattern - I think the other ones I did were larger - and sent it in to us to be quilted.  She requested blue thread that would show up but not take away from the quilt.  The allover she chose "2020".  I had to giggle.

So many people want to forget 2020, but I'm with the customer.  I don't have a problem ...

The Masked Bandit from Appalachian Quilts

Today I was going to start canning pumpkin.  I have all those sugar pie pumpkins in Puddin Pop's Pumpkin Patch....

I went out for my morning garden stroll with the Hubs.  There was an ear of corn on the ground.  I asked Hubs if he had shucked one of the ears there the night before when he was harvesting for dinner and he said 'no'.  *sigh*  I'm not going to be that gardener who loses all their corn to deer and raccoons.  Hubs changed out plans.  He got the four-wheeler and trailer and we started harvesting.  We planted ...

Smoking from Appalachian Quilts

Saturday morning I got up to do all the things - the things that give me joy.  I grabbed my coffee and my harvesting bowls and went out to the garden to see how I was going to spend my day.  It was overwhelming.  I worked at it for a while and finally had to call in reinforcements.  I haven't been feeling well for a few days (fever and angry stomach), so the heat and humidity got to me and I needed help.  Hubs came out and we started harvesting.

Starting at 12:00 there are cayenne peppers, purple beauty ...

Musical Fruit from Appalachian Quilts

There's more gardening, preserving, etc. going on here right now than quilting, so that's what you are going to see for a bit.

When you were little, did you sing the little ditty "beans, beans, musical fruit - the more you eat, the more you toot"?  That's what I've been singing all day.  Your welcome....again.

This year was new for me in that I tried some new beans.  I tried the Chinese Noodle Beans.  The finally came in like mad.  They are over a foot long and red in color.  We stir fried some with olive ...

Memorial Day Sale and Going Alaskan from Appalachian Quilts

I'm a fan of the Alaskan shows.  My favorite is probably Alaska the Last Frontier.  I love how they work as a family and have such a strong work ethic.  While watching Life Below Zero a LONG time ago, I fell in love with the Alaskan Ulu knife.  I told Hubs I just had to have one.  He offered to make me one, but time passed, we were busy and it just didn't happen.  He surprised me with one for Mother's Day.  He had started one for Christmas when he got his shop all set up, but ...

Honey, I Love You.... from Appalachian Quilts

We are first-year beekeepers.  Everyone told us we would get no honey this year while our hive gets established.  We secretly hoped they were wrong.  If you have seen bee boxes, they are stacks of wooden boxes on top of each other.

The bottom box is where the queen lives and lays eggs.  It is called the brood box.  The next box is where they start filling up with honey.  You leave that for them to eat over the winter.  Once it gets full, you add another box for more honey.  This is where your honey starts getting built up ...
