Just When The Caterpillar Thought His World Was Over... from Meena Schaldenbrand

The quilt depicts the caterpillar to butterfly life cycle includes the leaf, leaf with eggs, the eaten leaf that feeds the caterpillar, Chrysallis and emerging butterfly.
The circle represents the world and the bar code is to count blessings!
It was designed in Make the Cut software. A circle and bar code were Boolean joined. Node editing from lines into curves provides a path for caterpillar to transform into a butterfly. It was cut with my electronic cutter and free motion embroidered and quilted.
12”x 12”

Basting done........... from Exuberant Color

I finished thread basting the African fabric quilt.  Now I need to finish quilting the X and + quilt with my straight stitch machine so I can start quilting this one.

I pressed the last batch of scrappy batik Hunter star blocks and decided to see how they all look up on the design wall.  This is a long term project started last year and in no hurry to finish this year.  I'll keep cutting blocks as I have batiks out to cut for other projects.

I washed the black and white quilt that I used the Warm and Plush ...

First finish for August 2019.........and more.......... from Exuberant Color

I finished the binding before noon yesterday and then went to the basement for the photo shoot.  This quilt is 44" x 68".  I used a pattern "Keep Out" by Maple Island but I made changes to the border

I mentioned a couple days ago that the backing was 57" wide so I could use as is without piecing.  The backing fabric is a little heavier and stiffer than usual so this one needs to be washed right away to see if it will soften.

Here is another WIP that I need to finish.  I didn't have enough of ...

It's all black and white............... from Exuberant Color

I loaded this quilt on the longarm a week ago but straightening and cleaning the basement ended up taking 4 days so I didn't get it quilted.

I tackled it yesterday and used a nice even meander with white thread for the quilting.

The backing fabric is 57" wide so I didn't have to piece it.  It has off white and gray in addition to black in the print.  It is a heavier weight fabric and I hope it softens up when I wash it.

All trimmed and waiting for binding.  I'm pretty sure it will be ...

Black and White - free quilt pattern from Pieced Brain

Free pattern alert! This is the quilt I designed for the Domino Effect collection by Blank Quilting. This collection has amazing textures adding lots of interest and depth to the project through the two quilt blocks I chose.

It measures 61" x 71" and the blocks finish at 10". I love this black and white quilt with its scrappy look which can easily be achieved due to the variety of prints in this collection. Here they are, used in the quilt along with white and purple on one of the borders:

Imagine the possibilities!!! I can see these fabrics made ...

Another finished quilt top.......... from Exuberant Color

This is the other partially made quilt that was in that bin that I was emptying.

I started this quilt in mid October 2007.  It is the pattern "Keep Out" by Maple Island Quilts.  I did make some changes however.  The fabrics are all black and white even though some look more like gray.  When a print has about equal parts of black and white it will almost always read as gray from a distance.  This quilt top ended up at 44" x 68.5"

When I get all of these pieces sewn into blocks I'll have 3 new ...

Basket Project – 2018-19 from Lotus Cove Quilting

It started with a gift exchange at Rochester Modern Quilt Guild. We were to make a small container or basket to exchange with other members at our January meeting. Here’s the one I made for the exchange:

The interior fabric is from Mali, and the handles are riveted-on leather tabs. The pattern I found was so great, I also used it to make some Christmas gifts.

These went to my sister-in-law and husband, to coordinate with her MacKenzie-Childs collection. Handles were made from the same fabric as the binding, with wire inserts.

These cat-themed baskets were gifts for my ...

Black and White Blog Hop! from Sew Fresh Quilts

Welcome to my stop on the Black and White Blog Hop!

This blog hop is going to be four days of fun, hosted by the lovely Carla of Creatin'InTheSticks

This little mini quilt was my second project I chose to make for the blog hop.

I'm so pleased with this fire hydrant block which suits these little black and white dog so well!.

I used corner tabs for hanging as this finished at 26 inches square.

And every once in a while you have a quilt that calls out to you looking for something extra. That's why ...

A Quilt for Joan from Sew........This Is My Blog

I met Joan when I joined my first guild, The Flower Valley Quilting Guild, about twenty years ago.  More than fifteen years ago we both joined a small daytime group started by a mutual friend we fondly dubbed "Day-Quilters".  So I've been to many meetings, lunches, field trips, and retreats with her, and she is a dear friend.  Here she is with a paper doll of herself; we were each asked to make one for a 50th Birthday Party/Quilt retreat we were graciously invited to a while back.

Sadly, Joan is losing her vision which means she has ...

Ach Du liebe Zeit, was ist das denn für ein Name! Wilde Gänse (in einer) gerade Furche Quilt Block! Wild Geese Straight Furrows Quilt Block. Darüber denke ich dann aber doch mal lieber erst einmal nicht nach, denn der Block an sich hat mir gefallen. Ein Kissen daraus, das war mein Gedanke...

Wild Geese Straight Furrows Quilt Block - what a name for such a great block! Anyway, I like the block and planned on a pillow top. That´s why I decided to participate in the  quilt along of fatquarter shop in the Classic and Vintage series. You can find ...

F4 Reflected in the Rain from Pebble Creek Arts

This started as a charcoal drawing to prepare for an oil painting. I never did get to the oil painting, but the drawing is nice. This is a gift for a friend who actually took the original photograph.

It is a 10 x 10 charcoal on 140lb watercolor paper. Since it is going to be a gift, I mounted it to a cradled panel and built a frame for it.

I hope my friend likes it.

Signing off for now. Happy Friday!

Top finished............ from Exuberant Color

I finished sewing this top yesterday afternoon.  It measures 58" x 82".  I chose and cut the bright colors last Friday and Saturday and it was sewn by Wednesday.  The black and whites were chosen last year in October, cut on Feb. 2 this year.  The white background batik is one of Hoffman's early batiks from the mid 1990s.

The top 2 batiks are Bali by Princess Mirah and I think the zebras are a Hoffman but I'm not sure.

The top two in this photo are also Bali brand and the bottom is a more recent Hoffman ...

Parts made, organization started......... from Exuberant Color

Yesterday morning I pieced all of the remaining pieces for this quilt.  The bottom 2 rows are still just pieces on the wall, not sewn together.  I tried switching the black and whites in the bottom 2 rows but I really like the dark at the bottom to balance dark at the top.  Maybe I'll get it sewn today.

Last night while I watched 3 shows on TV I played with fabric.  I pulled 18 more pieces to cut into 2.5" squares for my ongoing cutting project.

When I finished that I tidied up the box that contains ...

Progress report........... from Exuberant Color

It was so much fun to see my art quilter friends yesterday.  The last time they were here was the end of November.  We cancelled in January the week of all of the snow and then decided to skip February.

Last night I started working on this quilt again.  The bottom horizontal rows are just loose pieces on the design wall and floor.  I am making a different size than any listed in the pattern so I wasn't sure how much of each piece I needed.  I am constructing the little 3 piece units now that I need to ...

Two more rows sewn on............ from Exuberant Color

I sewed two more rows on to this quilt yesterday afternoon.  There will be 10 rows of the black and white when it is done.  Here is the pattern for anyone that missed it yesterday.  I sewed two rows last night after I took this photo.  The rest came off the design wall pinned together.  The art quilters will need the design walls today.

Adding some fabrics.......... from Exuberant Color

I decided the red project was too dull so I added these 3 fabrics and pulled out a couple of the original fabrics.

I cut the black and white fabrics for this quilt a month ago and showed them here.

It was last October that I showed the pattern and pulled the black and white batik fabrics.

I have the whole quilt laid out on my double design wall and need to get it down before the art quilters come tomorrow.  I sewed the top 2 rows last night.  I can't vacuum until I have it down or the ...
