I really like my Martelli rotary cutters; I have a 45mm version as well as a 60mm version. The thing that makes them so comfortable for me to use is that they have offset handles — which is what makes them awkward to take anywhere, given that they aren’t flat. (Note: I see that they’ve […]

read moreI found an adorable duffle bag pattern! It's a free tutorial from Bernina. Click the link to go to the tutorial:
The finished size of this duffle is 14.5" by 8" by 8" tall. I have kitted this project in case you want to make one too. The kit includes the laminate, the cotton webbing and a black zipper.
You can click the link above to go directly to the item in my online shop. Or you can go to AlamosaQuiltCompany.com and click Shop>Kits and this one is probably the ...
read moreThe latest quilt is now finished! I had such a good time quilting this one, especially since I wasn’t constantly fighting the weight as I moved it around under my Bernina, thanks to my new suspension system. The background fabric is a white-on-white fabric with happily flitting dragonflies, which is where I got the name […]
read moreOne of the most difficult things about quilting on a domestic machine is managing the bulk and weight of the quilt. For some time now, I’ve been looking at a couple of tools that claim to help hold the weight to make quilting easier and less tiring. One of those tools requires floor space, which […]
read moreThe quilt I’m working on needs sixteen Snail’s Trail blocks, and my Bernina and I finished making those today — yay! I still need to make 25 pieced cornerstone blocks and 20 diamond sashing blocks, but these Snail’s Trail blocks have more pieces in them than the others. Hmmm … I see that I managed […]
read moreRemember these gnomes that I showed you last week? I’ve added some different ones to the “collection” this week. I’d signed up several weeks ago to take a class at the quilt shop after seeing how cute the samples were. The design is by Embroidery Garden, and it’s easy to make with the embroidery machine; […]

I spent the day with my Monday quilt group...
I'm still chugging along with my son's high school graduation quilt, in fits and snatches! The real challenge is coming up with new pictures for each post about it, because it looks pretty much the same up on the design wall regardless of whether seams have been sewn together yet!
Giverny Teleidoscope In Progress |
You can't see the whole thing in the photo above, but the top six rows have corners attached and blocks sewn together into rows. I have three more rows to go with attaching corners and joining blocks into rows. There are no borders ... read more
When last we met, I had just pulled my Bernina 790 out of hibernation only to find it did not fit my Koala sewing cabinet and so I had to order a new insert. Check, check and check. Who says I’m not getting sh*t done? I know all of you want to know how Pat… Continue reading Organisms & Hand Stitching
read more“What fresh new hell is this?” You might rightfully ask upon seeing the photo below. Okay, sure YOU might not ask this, however these were the exact words that came to mind when I set up my sewing machine yesterday afternoon, only to realize that when I traded in my Bernina 880, which was plagued… Continue reading Something New…

read moreNow that I’ve finished the quilting on my elephants, I’m making the piping that I’ll add before the binding. Miles of piping. But I do love the extra detail of the piping on my quilts, so I’m glad to make it. My Bernina is practically an expert by now!
read moreOur extended family has had another addition. This is a second child for our son-in-law’s niece and her husband; I’d finished another one some time ago for their first child. Thinking ahead, I had sort of “stockpiled” a few ready-made embroidery designs for occasions like this, so I quickly decided to use this one (such a cute […]
read moreYears ago, when our daughters were little, I made Christmas stockings for them. Then I made stockings for grandchildren (except for the ones who got needlepointed stockings from another relative — gorgeous!), and finally one for our son-in-law. This year I decided that my husband and I were deprived.
read moreI saw an embroidered/trapunto banner hanging in the Bernina area of my local dealer, and I liked it so much that I purchased the design files, which were from OESD. It took me a while to get around to actually making what I had in mind, but I’ve finally done it.
read moreThis was such a fun project to do, but there were times that I thought I might never get to the end of it. LOL! I loved selecting and using the built-in embroidery stitches on my Bernina 790+, but I have to admit that quilting them — all in the ditch — quickly became very […]
read moreSome years ago, I found a way to have a custom-made skin put onto my Bernina 630. I loved it, and you may be able to see why. Unfortunately, when I bought my 790+ with all of its fantastic features, two things happened. First, the 790+ couldn’t have a similar skin, since that service no […]
read moreI’ve been working pretty hard on the online classes I’ve mentioned before, but I did finally get all of my clamshells stitched to the background, using a variety of decorative stitches and thread colors. The next step will be to quilt this piece and the backing before putting them together. That may need to wait […]
