Triple Play! X’s and O’s from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

The X's and O's Triple Play tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Co.

Hugs make us happy.

A good snuggle releases oxytocin, a chemical associated with happiness and less stress. But I wonder…can quilts do the same?

This week Jenny, Misty, and Natalie showcase 3 new projects based on the classic X’s and O’s quilt. And these hugs and kisses are almost as sweet as the real thing!

Fresh off my frame, and full of fabulously scrumptious feathery texture:

I just finished quilting this snowball quilt for a customer who is also my mom -- this is her very first quilt that she's made by herself from start to finish, and she decided to make it KING size!  Didn't she do a great job?

It's a 12 x 12 layout of 8" snowball blocks that she made following the pattern in the book Quilts! Quilts! Quilts!, 3rd Ed., by Diana McClun and Laura Nownes.

Peacock Flourish Opulence Fabric, Mottled White Multi

Hourglass Wreath Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

The Hourglass Wreath Quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co. Watch the free quilt tutorial today.

Can you imagine enduring winter in ancient Scandinavia? No electricity. No furnace. No corner grocery store. Just weeks and weeks of darkness, cold, and scarcity.

During the darkest part of winter, my own Swedish ancestors adorned evergreen wreaths with white candles to celebrate Yule, or midwinter. The evergreen boughs symbolized resilience in harsh conditions; the candles, hope for the warmth and light of spring.

Disappearing Four-Patch Weave Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

The Disappearing Four-Patch Weave Quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co. Watch the free quilt tutorial today.

Spiders are master weavers. Their webs are made with silk “thread” that is the envy of quilters: 1,000x thinner than human hair and 5x stronger than steel! (Scientists think pencil-thick web could stop a jumbo jet!)

They work at a dazzling pace, completing incredibly intricate webs in about an hour. But this week, Jenny is giving ‘em a run for their money!

The Disappearing Four-Patch Weave quilt starts as a super-simple 4-patch and then, like all disappearing blocks, we slice it and rearrange the pieces. The result is a gorgeous, woven layer cake pattern that comes together lickety-split. (Our ...

Cindy's Not Your Mother's Rail Fence 3.0 from Night Owl Quilting

Cindy sent me this crisp Not Your Mother's Rail Fence quilt.  I never get tired of quilting a pattern that is part of the Highway 10 Designs collection.  I know that Cindy enjoys making this pattern as I have quilt two for her in the past.  Check them out here and here.

Cindy thought she was probably going to donate this quilt so she left the panto and thread choice up to me.   I decided to "go for it" with the thread color and picked a bright blue-green that popped on the solids.  The panto is called "Dazzle" and ...

Super Cute, Super Simple Finish from Needle and Foot

You know how you set something aside for so long and then somehow your mind decides it is going to take forever to finish it and you don’t want to so you just leave it there? Yeah, me too. Quilt Your History – 5 Favorite Vintage Quilts from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

The Royal Wedding Quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co. Watch the free quilt tutorial today.

They don’t make them like they used to. Many of us were fortunate enough to have learned the art of quilting from our ancestors; parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles have long since been the best teachers to pass on the gift that is quilting. They stitched differently, as limited resources required more time and perseverance with each block. Each stitch was made with love though and the quilts survived, being passed down as family heirlooms for generations to come. Those beautiful patterns, bound in time by thread, became classics of the quilting world.

These projects have carried with them ...
