Beading.....More Tassels from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

This summer, in the evenings, I have been

doing a bit of beading...

This metal cart is on wheels.

I wheel it out of the back room and into

the living room at night...

It holds everything I need

for my beading projects.

The 2 bottom shelves hold lots and lots

of bead storage boxes...

The top shelf is for cording and wires.

3 containers hang off the side and hold

my jewelry pliers and cutters...

When I put the cart away,

I can store my bead board on the top shelf...

The cart fits nicely by the end of ...

Tassels... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

In May I started playing around on my

beading table...

This is what happened:

Tassel Necklaces

I ordered the recycled sari ribbon from Etsy...

Everything else came from my bead drawers...

These are great FUN to create !

These photos are actually backwards...

The necklaces came last.

First came the individual tassels:

I made this brown tassel with waxed cording,

then found a purse in my closet that

worked with the tassel.

This is actually the very first tassel I created:

My inspiration was the big blue bead

on top of the tassel...

it motivated me to create something around it ...

Stitching Fancy Prairie Points from Quilting Solutions

Time has usurped my sewing options.  I had a wonderful week with a daughter and two of her adult children.  One was to be Assistant Director at a local camp.  Sadly, camp was cancelled the day before she was to report.  The rest of the family had departed so she is now spending a mountain summer here in my sewing room.  However, that could never stop a lifetime sew-er like me.  I just moved on to a different part of my quilt.  I still need to do some fusing and quilting before I am ready to bind, but it is ...

Zipper Pulls... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

Zipper Pulls

I have had Bead Fever lately...

I gathered up all of my orphan beads

left over from previous projects

and made zipper pulls with them...

It was fun putting together color stories

as well as adding charms to each one...

I took a break from hand stitching in the

evenings and started stringing beads...

These are fun to have on hand to share

with friends and family...

Clip them on your jacket, purse, camera bag,

sewing machine trolly case, portfolio case,

scissors and of course your zipper bags...

These beads have been around for years,

it is good ...

Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to week 268 of Free Motion Mavericks.

Free Motion Mavericks

I've been pretty quiet on-line and off, just getting through these winter days. I can feel daylight lasting slightly longer, which is wonderful.

I did some meditation stitching. Here are my last three blocks.

This was an old t-shirt that was used as a cleaning rag. The last time that I dyed fabric, I still had dye left over, so I threw in a few extras. This one one of them. You can see the image of dried flowers from the original t-shirt design.

Impressions of dried flowers ...

My New Eye Bowl from Gefilte Quilt

Pass the Visine! Here's my new Eye Bowl!

The name is inspired by the orange Tula Pink fabric covering the small diamonds. I drove the point home (because too much is never enough for me) by placing glass eye beads on half the outer shapes.

It's entirely English Paper Pieced. Before embellishment, it looked like this:
Afterwards, along with the beads and buttons on top, I added danglies below.
 Lower.
 The back:
Pure fun! I showed a different polygon-based bowl in my last blog entry, here. All my techniques and many more ideas (but not this exact project ...

Spring Fiber Fest 2020—Coming this March! from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Last week, Kara wrote about our busy month of March, filled with teaching and lectures, beginning with the Academy of Appliqué in Williamsburg, and including two guilds. At the end of the month, I (Teri) will be concluding the frenzy of March with a fabulous getaway in Fairfield, Pennsylvania—Spring Fiber Fest 2020, where I will be teaching this wool appliqué flower with embroidery and ribbon embellishment.

Last year, I visited the event to shop the vendors. The location is lovely, just a few miles from Gettysburg. I so enjoyed my time there that when Kathy, of Primitive Homespuns Wool ...

More slow stitching, meditation style from Quilting & Learning

I've been doing some more slow stitching. This time with a little meditative quiet time added in.

Slow stitching, meditation style

In the October/November edition of the Quilting Arts magazine, I read an article that spoke to me. The article, Stitch Meditation, by Liz Kettle talked about meditating while stitching, since she found that regular meditation didn't really work for her. Wow! I've been trying to meditate and find it one of the most painful things to do. Quieting the mind is really difficult, except when I'm immersed in my quilting, or playing with code ...

Challenge 11-1 Project Quilting - Flower of Life from Quilting & Learning

Challenge 11.1 of Project Quilting is due tomorrow morning. The theme is Notably Numeric which includes geometry. The Flower of Life is part of what is known as Sacred Geometry. It's all very intriguing stuff.

Flower of Life

I'm not mathematically inclined, but geometry, especially if I don't have to calculate anything, can be quite beautiful. In fact, geometry is the basis for traditional quilting. Although I don't do much traditional quilting anymore, that's how most of us learned to quilt.

Flower of life - a series of circles or orange peels
Since I love ...

La Droguerie

La Droguerie

A little trip to Paris last week. And for me, going to Paris means visiting and shopping at La Droguerie, my favorite haberdasher's shop. They have their own production and dyeing of great quality yarns. In this wonderful shop you can find quilting fabrics, Liberty fabrics, all sorts of threads, buttons, beads, ribbons... as well as catalogues with their great patterns for children or adults.

I remember when this shop was created in 1975, I was one of their first customer and so happy to find cashmere yarn, out of which I knitted a sweater for the one who ...
