My most favorite thing to do is to play around with Electric Quilt and try to come up with unique and beautiful designs. I could do this all day long if I didn't need to earn a living! I recently had the opportunity to design a quilt using a new line of fabric from Timeless Treasures. It is a batik line called Honeycomb. When I started playing in my design program, this fabric didn't exist except as scans that were sent to me by Timeless Treasures. I started working out my design and I knew I wanted it ...
read moreI spent way too much time looking for and playing around with the audition of batik fabrics for the Bear Paw quilt borders. I'll show them in the order that I tried them. I was looking for pieces long enough (2.25 yards) to cut the borders lengthwise.
I tried this one first as it would be cut crosswise of the fabric.
Then I placed it as it would be if cut lengthwise.
I found a stripe of many colors that could be cut crosswise but it seemed a little dark.

read moreOnly 4 more seams and a good pressing and then I can audition for the wide border. On the last Bear Paw quilt I used a blue/turquoise batik and I thought it was a good complement to the warm light colors in the blocks and sashing.
I chose 2 fabrics for backings of other quilts too. I just need to cut them to length and sew the 2 pieces together.
read moreI took the Australian fabric top off the design wall so I could use it for the Bear Paw blocks. I started sewing the sashing onto left and top sides of blocks.
I got 2 columns of blocks prepared. They need to be pressed and then I can sew those 2 columns together.
Look at all of the fun in this project box, all Australian fabric scraps. I need to go through them and organize them by size before I cut some triangles out of the larger pieces.

The first thing I did yesterday was pair the Australian fabric strips for the border pieces for the current quilt project.
That became my TV time sewing. Ready for trimming to size and sewing onto the quilt.
I still had a little time left so I sewed cornerstones onto 30 strips for the Bear Paw quilt sashing.
While I waited for the weather forecast on the 10 p.m. news I finished this dishcloth. It is a departure from the pattern I usually use just for a little variety.
It was 12 degrees Friday morning and supposed to be 50 ...
read moreThe sewing cabinet had a lot of things laying on it, one of them being the end pieces of the Australian fabric stratas for the 16 patch quilt. I decided to trim them straight and sew them together. They were anywhere from 7/8" wide to 1 1/2" wide cut size. This little piece sewn together is 8.5" x 13", big enough for a mug rug or add borders for a placemat. I'll just put it up on the design wall for now, decisions later.
The next thing was the 1.5" light strips to use for ... read more
Way too many rectangles were cut to finish the 20 Bear Paw blocks. More seeds for another quilt. I'm pretty sure this is the final layout of the blocks. There will still be 1" finished sashing strips added so I won't have to match all of the points when sewing the top together.
I remembered that I had a bag of 22" long 1.5" batik strips leftover from making a log cabin baby quilt top in 2009. I had just used half of every full width strip for that quilt. It is here in this monthly recap ... read more
Three more blocks were totally sewn, the one at the top left needs its rectangles. I chose enough fabrics for the rest of the rectangles but only got pieces cut from 3 of them. I also paired all of the parts for the rest of the blocks so once I cut more rectangles I should be able to finish all of the of the blocks. While I'm cutting the rectangles I might as well cut strips for the sashing (cut 1.5" wide) since it will be scrappy too.
read moreI cut some more of the larger squares for the Bear Paw blocks. I'm not sure how many of them I will use. I thought I needed a little lighter and brighter additions.
Here is the 7th fabric I cut into large squares. I got all of the triangles for 20 blocks sewn together in pairs and sewed the 4 Paw units for this block. I still need to cut more of the rectangle pieces. I don't think I will be using that blue piece.
The storm missed us yesterday but we had the most fantastic sunset. It ... read more
Some visitors are coming to my area for a few days so I had to shop for a few ingredients and then spent 5+ hours in the kitchen.
I started out with peanut butter cookies.
Next was the first batch of Chex mix. I made another batch at the end of the kitchen session so I could use up all of the ingredients.
After the first batch of Chex Mix I baked Kringlas. The dough had to be refrigerated for a couple hours so they were mixed earlier in the day.
In the evening I had 2 TV shows to ... read more
I finished the two partial blocks from a couple days ago and then made 3 more blocks. This is the amount of blocks I had in the first scrap Bear Paw quilt but I'm planning on either 20 or 24 for this quilt.
I like to make quilt blocks. Each one has its own decisions and becomes a mini quilt on its own. Would you believe I still haven't sewn the last batch of Bear Paw blocks from October 2021 together into a top yet? The fun is over when the blocks are made and final layout is ...
read moreThe first thing I did yesterday was to count the pieces for one of the Australian fabric quilts and make sure I had even amounts of dark and light pieces. Also I needed to know if I had the same number of triangles as long rectangles. I have enough for 23 blocks and I'll need 24 so eventually I'll look for another fabric to finish up.
I put all of the pieces in a project box with the 9 big prints for centers. I need to cut 14 more of them.
I went ahead and sewed the first ... read more
Three hours of sewing last night, the center top to bottom 3 blocks and the 2 partial blocks at the right. I need to cut some more variety of the long rectangles before I can continue. I also need more dark center squares so that is my project during the day today.
My red cactus has 2 buds again. This one had several blooms in December, just a couple blooms in January and now these will be open in March. This is one of the $10 purchases from W*lm*rt. The ones in that price range are usually several ... read more
I sewed triangle squares for three hours last night and only have enough for 8 of the 20 blocks. There are 16 of them in each Bear Paw block. I had enough already sewn for 4 blocks so I have enough for 12 and 3 blocks are already sewn. That means I still need 16 x 5 blocks. There is more cutting in my future.
I also cut parts for the other Aboriginal fabric quilt and laid out one block. I wanted to make a quilt where I can showcase some of the larger prints. The blocks will be 12 ... read more
Last night I sewed 3 of the new scrappy Bear Paw blocks. They look a little dark so I'm going to make sure I add in more medium tones for the 4 big squares. They are 14" so 20 blocks will be a minimum of 56" x 70". I usually add a narrow sashing so I don't have all of the points matching edge to edge so that will increase the size. I could also add a border like I did on the last one. read more
It rained all day yesterday and we only had a little ice around noon and then it warmed a couple degrees and only rain after that. It was so gloomy the only thing to do was turn on my bright lights in the basement and do some cutting. I cut this rectangular shape and squares out of light fabrics.
Then I cut more triangles in both dark and light. I need 16 triangle squares per block so that is 320.
Then I laid out the pieces for one block to make sure I was on the right track. I have ... read more
So it was a good day and a bad day! GRR!
It drives me crazy when I can't find something. I become obsessed with finding it, and when I can't, it throws my day for a curve! That was yesterday. I'm missing TWO things -- I wanted to take a picture of part of a UFO project. Can I find it? Nope -- and I've looked everywhere. But obviously, not everywhere! I'll try later today.
However, the good news is that I already have a picture of the piece (I remembered that later in the day) and ...
read moreBoth quilt tops are sewn but not pressed yet. I'll get them up on the design wall in the basement today and take their photos. I'll have to hang them sideways and then rotate the photos because one is 78" long and the other is 84" long. The design wall is about 83-84" tall and 96" wide. My longarm is in the way to get a good photo when I hang them the other way when they are that long.

This Snail's Trail ended up with a scrappy multicolor look. I put up all of the blocks and only changed 3 of them before taking down the rows and clipping them for sewing today or tomorrow.
I didn't take a final photo of the heart quilt and just took it down column by column as I was ready to add them for webbing the top. I have all of the seams sewn in one direction and 2 seams sewn the other direction. 9 more seams to sew.
If you read my post yesterday I mentioned making another scrappy ... read more
I am trying to figure out what is happening with the blog. There used to be a link on the page where you could sign up for e-mails, and each day, you'd get an e-mail with the link to the blog. That doesn't seem to be happening, and then I hear from people that they just got an e-mail. Then others say they are no longer getting it. ACK!!! I have no control over that! The link is still there, but it doesn't work -- I should investigate and remove it!
So if you want to ensure you ...
