Summer Baskets from Humble Quilts

I got a little chance to work on my basket project. The setting is what will make it unusual. I'm copying an antique quilt. I hope it works out like I imagine!

These were in with my blues. Does anybody know if this is Japanese writing?

And does it actually say anything?

And which direction would it go?

Any thoughts?

Fun on Friday from Humble Quilts

Here's my "Not new project" LOL Pieced with appliqued handle was the preferred vote, but looking back on the original antique, the handles were wide and chunky and I don't think I could have done a good job with that same look using applique. Long Time Gone from Pinkadot Quilts
