Bo bag from Espritpatch

Another request I had from my family was to make a bag to take their Bo to karate class. Bo are really long pieces of wood they occasionally use in their practice. And we have 3 of them at the moment, probably a 4th soon so it felt like a good idea to have them in a bag for transport.

They're longer than the karateka so I needed a massively long piece of faux leather for it.

Hubby requested a handle to carry the bag

as well as a strap

Of course, I met both requests!

Sunshine Crossbody Pouch from Becca's Crazy Projects

A friend mentioned the Sunshine Crossbody Pouch pattern from Bagstock Designs and I decided to give it a go. This is a free pattern with detailed instructions with color photos. You can also find a handful of step-by-step video tutorials on YouTube if you search for "sunshine crossbody pouch". I looked through my collection of vinyl, fat quarters from Spoonflower, and zips to come up with the perfect combination. This fabric Cephalopods world is still available on Spoonflower.
On Friday I cut out all the pieces. Fabric, interfacing, vinyl, all ready to go. I buy my zippers from Zipit Zippers ...

Geometry tools from Espritpatch

For once it's not the lack of time but rather the lack of energy. After our very short hop to France, we are now in force self isolation to comply with the rules. And since we're on holidays, there's plenty of free time. With the craziness of the last few months, I seriously lack energy and quite often motivation too but slowly I've been trying to make things again.

I started with a little pouch for my daughter to store her geometry tools when she returns to school next month.

I used some faux leather and ...

Embroidered purse from Quilting and More...

Some time ago I saw a little purse advertised online and thought it would be fun to make for my granddaughter. I ordered the design, the threads, and a frame to close it. Unfortunately, I ran into a problem right away when the design was only available as a download with the mailed code, and […]

In The Hoop from Becca's Crazy Projects

Time to get hooping! My cutting table prior to the real mess. I discovered Off With Their Threads last week. They were having a sale and I couldn't resist picking some fun in the hoop (ITH) projects. I grabbed my tear-away stabilizer and hooped it up.
I decided to use this lime green vinyl I picked up at one of the big box fabric stores a while back. The strap for the claw clasp was a leftover from another project. This is the step in the project I realized I had taped it onto the work the wrong way ...

DRAGGING BAGS AROUND! from Kwilty Pleasures

I have a lot of bags ready to sew.
My feet hurt from dragging them around
instead of sewing them.

I pulled the fabrics over a year ago.
I cut them out, cut and ironed on interfacing or batting.
Made drawstrings or matched zippers.

And yet..2 months later, they are NOT finished.
Maybe they will be my "Christmas in July"
sewing projects!

The Gnomes and Fa-la-la-la-lamas
are on the table!

Embroidered Tote from Becca's Crazy Projects

This has been the view of my embroidery table for weeks. So much clutter and so little room for new ideas. The first step in the project was finding my table.
After a little while, sorting things, storing things, and admitting somethings would never get done, I could again find my desk. I hooped up some stabilizer and a tote bag
This design is from Urban Threads.
The design is called Cattery Border
Aren't they cute!

This is great medium-size tote to carry books, groceries, or some yarn and your current project.

Donation Time Again from Romany Quilting

For a change this week, I decided not to “roll the dice” to choose which UFO I would work on.  Instead I chose one which was not even on the list – a very pink cot quilt made from cozy flannel. This project started with six flannel squares from Jean  -  she had dropped off several bags of scraps some time ago full of all sorts of interesting bits and pieces.  Jean    blogs as https://jeanmckinstry.blogspot.com/.  I added pink squares to go with them and the idea grew from there.

Flipping Out from Quilting and More...

No, I’m not going crazy — I hope — but “Flipping Out” is the name of a pattern I saw online at By Annie and thought would be fun to make. I know that her patterns are really good, since I’ve made many of them over the years. I needed a new container or two […]

Paper or Plastic? Neither! from Becca's Crazy Projects

Pulled out the serger this past weekend to make some quick totes. It took me almost as long to set it up for 4-thread overlock as it did to make my totes. I'm not saying it is difficult to change the set-up because it isn't. It just takes a few minutes to find the cheat-sheet and tools to get it set up correctly. Threading is a breeze!
My aunt sent me these fabrics a couple years ago and they've been sitting on a shelf for entirely too long. I went over to the Green Bag Lady's ...

Finished – Caravan Stitching from Romany Quilting

It’s Sunday, and I’m so pleased I finished my “roll the dice no 4” this week, which were a couple of items for the caravan, using caravan themed fabric.  I had been gifted two lengths of fabric a birthday or two ago, so was happy to finally get on and use them.   I’d decided to make placemats with the grey, and an apron with the blue.  Messy cooks like me need aprons, even away on caravan trips!

I had to piece the blue fabric to get the length I needed, and couldn’t match the pattern, but ...

Call Me Badge Holder from Becca's Crazy Projects

Last week I shared my first Call Me badge holder. Saturday I grabbed some fabrics to make a couple more. This time, I used this fun tentacle print from Spoonflower.
Darling Husband wanted something bright and difficult to miss. I think this hit the mark.
This one is a little wider than the first one I made and I'm super pleased with how it turned out.
Now he will be ready the next time we get to attend a convention.
I made myself a slightly larger one, too. I love the happy crab and jellyfish!

Call Me Badge Holder from Becca's Crazy Projects

Last year when we went to Relaxicon they handed out these badge holders with registration. I liked the idea of a badge holder that holds more than your badge, but this one really didn't hold all the things I want to carry, or not conveniently, in one place. If I had to pick one reason I didn't like it is the cord. Sure, it is adjustable, but once you put your cell phone inside that cord will cut into your neck more than you would think.
I found a great pattern called Call Me from By Annie that ...

Scrappy Market Tote from Liz Makes Crafts

The Scrappy Market Tote is a class by Christina Cameli on Bluprint, and I have watched it quite a few times, but I kept procrastinating on making one of my own. Improv terrifies me, and scraps intimidate me. So imagine how I feel when I'm faced with a project that's both improv and scraps.

But I finally decided to give it a shot. I'm using a palette of yellows, blues, and greens, and I combed through only the top of my scrap bins and already I was shocked at how much scraps I have accumulated over the ...

Drawstring Gift Bag from Alamosa Quilter

The last Saturday in January I had an LQS Day event at the shop. We had a short bolt sale. Afterwards we had some bolts left over so we have been getting creative with ways to use them.

One of the left over sale bolts was this Merrily fabric. The animal is fat quarter size. So I designed this lined drawstring gift bag using the animals. Shown is the moose. The others are a polar bear, a deer and a penguin. We kitted up the animal with coordinating fabrics, twill tape for the drawstring and a pattern. I'm pretty ...

Knitting project bag

After seeing many such bags on Pinterest and Instagram I decided to sew my own knitting bag.
I chose this lovely printed canvas from Elanbach which has a good firmness required for this kind of project. Very pleased with this first bag I will sew some others using plain canvas from my stash.

Until now I did not buy any new material. The purpose is : using all the stuff I have at home and decluttering.

On the last picture I displayed my new knitting bag next to a shawl I knitted and a cross stitch embroidery I achieved in 2012.

The Perfect Zippered & Lined Bag from Where Art & Life Meet

I love a good zippered pouch. Preferably one that I can take on an airplane, large enough for a tablet or small sketch book, a needle roll, small pair of scissors, and project, but not so large that it becomes cumbersome. I began looking around at what is already out there and found many lovely… Continue reading The Perfect Zippered & Lined Bag

Since some time I wish to sew drawstring baskets for my grandchildren. After searching on Pinterest and on various blogs, I was lucky to find a really great tutorial on this blog : Threading My Way. I must say that I never found such a perfect tutorial, so well explained that you cannot make any mistake. I followed step by step the explanations and had not the least problem. I sewed the orange basket first, and was so satisfied with the result that next day I did a blue one. Tomorrow a pink one! Thank you Pam for Australia!

First Post in Far Too Long from Alamosa Quilter

I'm hoping to do better this year at posting here at least once a week. I'll be experimenting with post formats to see what will work best for me. So ... here goes!

What have I been working on?

I have a customer/friend who loves to make bags as much as I do. She received several bag patterns for Christmas and brought them in to show them to me. She wants me to teach her how to make all of the bags she received patterns for and asked me which one I wanted to make first. I chose ...
