Bubbles 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

I wonder how many bubbles it would take to make a queen size quilt.

I haven’t counted the number of assorted size circles of fabric it takes for any of the blocks in this project file, but it would feel like millions … make that billions … if you had to cut them out by hand and then turn the blocks around and around to get each one stitched down!

Looks like some of the bubbles have formed their own system, copying the solar system perhaps!

Mmmm!

What if the lines joining the bubbles were eliminated, and the bubbles were held ...

Oh, so pretty!

Oh, so Pretty!

I haven’t quite repeated myself … note the capital P for the second one!

Ann’s Album OP 20, 21, 22 from Virtual Quilter

Nice one, with lots of room for quilting.

Interesting lattice holding the central design in place, and still room for quilting.

I love the last one! Pity I wasn’t adding quilting lines to that one!

EQ Mexican Rose Quilt 18, 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting concept in the placing of blocks around the edge.

Also interesting is that I placed them where I already had quilting motifs. I left the motifs as they were, but would I still quilt an outline of the applique? I think I would.

Sometimes I think that I waste far too much time designing virtual quilts, and not enough time working on real ones, but I keep finding interesting things that lead me to try new concepts, and by doing it here on Electric Quilt I don’t damage any fabric finding out if the idea is worth transferring ...

Virtual Quilts: Viewing, Studying and Enjoying Them in New Ways from Repro Quilt Lover

If you belong to a quilt guild, visit quilt exhibits, participate in workshops, take classes, or study quilt history, you have likely had an event canceled or postponed. If you are anything like me it’s been a lot more than one. This has left me wondering how I can fulfill my desire to view quilts and, equally important, to socialize and learn from other quilters. I miss my people! How can I get my quilt fix when everything I used to do is canceled or on hold?

Fortunately, I didn’t have to create the opportunities, I just needed ...

Lovin’ Spoonful 45, 46 from Virtual Quilter

Another project file that was about to be retired because it was about to be empty of new designs to share … or an excuse to update the colours and carry on.

Well, I haven’t changed the colours yet, but I did play with two blocks and did a couple of tweaks to create blocks which suited the second design … and there are still blocks in the collection which have only been used in the sampler collection, so this project file will be around for some time yet! Now to go looking for some different fabrics.

Beth’s Brunsvigia Quilts 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

The leaves of my real brunsvigia are big and strappy … augers well for the flowers which I expect in 7 or eight years! (Unless I dig them up to move them again in that time frame.) It would be nice if the flowers waited for the leaves instead of appearing before any green is to be seen, but the flowers are still spectacular.

Interesting bed topper.

Like the second one … and big enough for a queen size bed.

Cactus Carnival Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

The Cactus Carnival Quilt from the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

If I asked you to draw a cactus, you’d probably choose the most cactus-y cactus of all, the saguaro. (You know, the tall fella with upstretched arms.) But let’s not forget, there are nearly 2,000 different types of cactus, and we love ‘em all!

The Cactus Carnival Quilt from the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

This week Jenny is stitching up a desert garden out of 10 inch squares. She’s using several of our favorite templates – orange peels, tumblers, and a cute little petal – to create a dazzling variety of spiny beauties! Click HERE to watch the tutorial!

Salvation Jane and Ruby Dock: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Salvation Jane colour board at Clever Chameleon

Happy Winter, from the Southern Hemisphere

Our winter officially started here yesterday. Although if you were here, you’d be forgiven for not noticing: 18C (64F) and sunny. Truly lovely weather during the day, although the nights are chilly now.

Arkaroola in June
Arkaroola at the beginning of June

The desert knows it’s not summer anymore though. The Salvation Jane weeds (also known as Paterson’s Curse) are growing their incredibly perfect rosettes of teal leaves in the creek bed. Hate the weed, but got to admire that growth habit in our colour board! Also, another weed that has been insipidly hanging ...

Ferns and Flora 16, 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

Love these designs, but will have to add some quilting lines, and new colours. A new project file to play with in the future.

My favourite for today is the second one.

The last one is the last in the project file, but the block designs will reappear tidied up, with new colours and some modifications, and quilting lines will be added too.

Ann’s Album OP 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Nice.

Another nice one.

Another nice gardening day coming up, and I hope I don’t find blocks of concrete a couple of inches below ground level today! Much easier to play in dirt planting irises, and I am sure the plants will grow much better!

Aunt Flo’s Patch 61, 62 from Virtual Quilter

I like it!

I had a very soft spot for Aunty Flo, and I have always had a very soft spot for this series of designs. There are just three designs left, but I might have to play so there are more!

Ormes Inspired For the Finish from Quilty Folk

So... How bout a hundred pictures of the recently completed 'Ormes Inspired' quilt top? It was one of those spring days where it was overcast one minute and blazingly bright and sunny the next. Hopefully you can figure out the true color of the quilt eventually if you look at enough pictures!

Ormes Inspired
This quilt top was started back in August of 2019. Sort of a spur of the moment project but then, not really. I had been eyeing this pattern for a very long time and in fact had recently gotten permission from the very talented artist Jane ...

A Whiter Shade on Antique Gold 18, 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Love this idea of subtle colourings, and finding just the right fabrics might mean spending way too much time in a quilt shop. I think it would be time well spent!

But then, any time spent in a quilt shop is well spent.

Love the second one!

I like the last one too.

Bubbles 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

I am thinking that it would be fun to blow some bubbles … and I am much more seriously thinking that I will make a bubbly quilt.

Thank goodness I have a Scan’N’Cut to cut the circles for me, so until I get to stitching all those circles to the background I won’t be going round in circles for days on end!

Then I will get giddy, but perhaps some champagne will help!
