Bows and Bouquets 1 from Virtual Quilter

I have been playing with some blocks for over a week, trying to sort them out into some order, but spending more time drawing and modifying blocks than sorting them.

Anyway, I reached a point when I decided it was time to see if the blocks would work in a quilt. One of the hardest tasks was coming up with a title, but I think Bows and Bouquets works.

I love it!

Now I can go back to sorting and saving them in my block library.

EQ Album 58 from Virtual Quilter

Part of me thinks this is a bit dull, but it is also restful, and a touch masculine. I think I would lose the blue if I was to make something from this series, and lighten the background a little.

This series would have been created in EQ5, when historical prints and colours were preferred. Looking at some of the fabric available now I am thinking that maybe we are going back to the future!

Custom Quilting an Applique Quilt Doesn’t Have to be Complicated from Quilted Joy

I’ve had the pleasure of quilting many quilts for Kathy over the years, like this polka dot pineapple block quilt and this extraordinary Dresden plate quilt. I’m always in awe of the way she plays with color, prints, and shapes.

Kathy's Floral Applique Quilt, custom quilted by Angela Huffman of Quilted Joy

This next quilt by Kathy was no exception! When she brought it into the shop I was bowled over by the bright floral prints and the fun circular applique. I have to admit, quilting this quilt required a bit of stand and stare. But I’m in love with the way it turned out. Let’s take a ...

The fig tree looks a bit tired at the end of a long, hot summer, but several buckets of fruit were shared with others after I made more than enough for my own use.

Kimberly’s Sea Creatures Quilt from Quilted Joy

Many of the quilts I quilt for customers receive an edge to edge design or a meander. But every once in awhile a quilt walks in the door that simply demands a bit of custom quilting. Kimberly made this adorable Ocean Odyssey Quilt by Lunch Box Quilts with lots of fun sea creatures. An edge to edge quilting design just was not going to do it justice.

Fantasy Floral Quilts 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

Like it, but think I have improved it for you.

Love it.

Note that the borders in the body of the quilt have created a soft border, rather than the more defined border around the edge.

For those following the Virtual Quilt Challenges, there is a new challenge today, and today’s virtual quilts illustrate how I alter blocks to make them work differently.

Love with a Twist Kuddly Koala Balloon from Clever Chameleon

Kuddly Koala appliqué for the Love with a Twist series by Dione Gardner-Stephen of Clever Chameleon

Welcome to March!

Let’s begin March with a ‘Bang”! At least, we probably would if this was a real balloon koala. It is so hot here today that balloons taken outside would not last very long at all. Luckily, March’s first balloon animal for the Love with a Twist quilt along is of the more permanent variety and totally chilled. “Kuddly Koala” is not going anywhere, having found the perfect spot to hang out on my Love with a Twist quilts.

Also impatient as he is cute, Kuddly Koala introduced himself early on Tuesday. But now we have ...

I tried to schedule a post for the usual time last night, but posted it then … obviously the effect of my morning coffee does not last until bedtime!

Let’s see if I can get it right this morning … if not I will change my brand of coffee!

Love with a Twist Signature Block from Clever Chameleon

Love with a Twist signature appliqué block Lasting Love Balloon by Dione Gardner-Stephen of Clever Chameleon Quilting

It’s only the 24th of February and I have completed this month’s planned Love with a Twist February blocks. And even better, the patterns too! Wonders never cease!

Today’s Love Balloon pattern is the second option for the large centre block of the Love with a Twist throw size quilts. You’ll also need it for the twin size quilt. It’s an easy block, I think the fastest so far. It only has two fabrics and no extra details to embroider.

Grab your pdf pattern download below, take a quick look at the assembly order and ...

Anns Album 62 from Virtual Quilter

I am amazed how many designs can be created from any given set of blocks. Even just two blocks can be alternated or used in rounds. There are still more designs in this project file, created from 10 blocks, most of which have been modified a few times.

I like the restful colours in this project file.

Pigs Might Fly! Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Talk to the Pig mini quilt by Dione Gardner-Stephen of Clever Chameleon Quilting

Show Your Wings Blog Hop

When Carol from Just Let Me Quilt announced there was a new blog hop coming up in February, I did my usual mental dance with myself. Mature Me said “Nope, you’ve got too many more urgent important things on your plate”. Optimist Me said “But I’ll just do something little…. I’ll squeeze it in”. Mature Me said “Pigs might fly!”. And Stick It to Mature Me Me said “Oooooh….. pigs might fly – that’d fit the theme! Hahahahaha”.

The thought of doing a Pigs Might Fly appliqué motif based on my balloon ...

Love with a Twist Balloon Pig from Clever Chameleon

February’s first block for the Love with a Twist quilt along is “Happy Hog”, the prancing balloon pig. It seems only fitting to do the pig block next as the first block of the new Lunar year.

Happy New Year of the Pig

Happy Hog appliqué pattern by Dione Gardner-Stephen of Clever Chameleon

Too cute and ready to play, today’s pig balloon appliqué is one of the centre block options for the throw size versions of Love with a Twist. Of course, you will also need to collect Happy Hog if you are making the full twin-size quilt. In the latter, she struts her stuff in the top ...

Dancing a Jig to a little Ditty: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Ditty fabrics from Island Batik colour scheme at Clever Chameleon

Introducing Ditty

Ditty is the name of one of Island Batik’s latest fabric releases. The colours are as cute as their name… Kind of a pastelly sunset. Actually, I don’t easily recognise them as pastels but I guess that is what they really are, since they are nowhere near colour-saturated. Is there such things as bright pastels? If there wasn’t, there is now.

I received 10″ precut squares of Ditty and two pieces of yardage from the collection in my Island Batik Ambassador allowance. I hope you have been following along and already know what I am ...

Marvellous Minis with Island Batik from Clever Chameleon

Year of the Pig appliqué by Dione Gardner-Stephen at Clever Chameleon

Happy New Year of the Pig 2019

February is Mini Quilt Month in the Island Batik Ambassador calendar: “Create a mini quilt 24″ x 24″ or smaller, any technique” is the challenge we’ve been given. Minis are a great way to try a new technique, or explore resource/time intensive projects on a doable scale. Or to commemorate an occasion or holiday. Like the Lunar New Year. For my first 2019 Ambassador challenge I decided to make something to mark Chinese New Year. Happy New Year of the Pig!
