Floral Wedding OP 39, 40 from Virtual Quilter

Spring is about to arrive Down Under, so there will soon be plenty of flowers … but then fabric florals are available all year.

Love both of these!

Kelly’s Custom Quilts 21, 22 from Virtual Quilter

Love the idea of creating a design by using different background fabrics, and designs like the ones here show why!

I like the first one best, but I have learned something from the second one … use finest, dotted line available in Electric Quilt for the best quilting lines when added to a blog. The quilting lines are fine when they are printed out, but tend to look splodgy when uploaded.

From Destination Panels from Riley Blake to the Road Trip quilt from Missouri Star, we’ve gathered some of ...

Patricia’s Patches 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting.

I started designing quilts with assorted blocks, but repeating most of the assortment of designs. Most of the quilts I made before Electric Quilt came into my life were all different blocks, in other words sampler quilts. Doing the same block over and over for a single bed was boring, let alone doing a queen size one.

Since EQ came along I have mixed a few of one block design, a few of another, etc. until I had enough for the size needed. Sometimes there are a maximum of 16 repeats of one block, but neither of the ...

Textile Inspiration White Out 16, 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

I love the first design today.

I like the second one too.

I also like the last one, which might make a nice wallhanging.

EQ Mods OP 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

Looks like a rather old quilt, though the layout is more modern than the fabric choices. I love looking at old stuff, and love that this looks old, even if designed on computer rather than with pencils on paper.

The second design looks like a washed out version of the first, so it not only looks old but also used. I don’t think I will try to show worn and frayed patches with computer technology!

Hearts Growing 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

Until yesterday I had just three variations of the block in the centre of each side of the design above, though without the small circle in the centre of the block.

I don’t have a name for the block collection, and I am hoping that someone might be more inspired than I am in the naming game!

If you have looked at just a few posts you may have noticed that I like to show a variety of ways to use a block, including variations of that block, in quilt designs, and love most of the resulting designs.

Quilt Reveal: Oak Leaf and Reel from High Road Quilter

Hello and welcome to my blog! Today, I am participating in the Dust Off an Old Quilt Book blog hop hosted by Beaquilter.  This is my third year participating in this blog hop, and I have enjoyed it each year.

In 2019, I dusted off a fairly new book, Cultural Fusion, and added a border to an existing quilt. I haven't quilted that quilt yet.

Last year, 2020, I made a Patchwork Envelope. I still haven't added the embellishments I am planning for that quilt. In that post, I showed you my oldest book, The Romance of the ...

Pretty Irish Chain with Applique from Night Owl Quilting

When Lori sent a photo of this quilt top asking for custom quilting (and especially feathers), I couldn't wait for it to get to the top of my list!

The recipient of this quilt loves feathers and more traditional quilting, so feathers wreaths were the request for the open white spaces.

I added continuous curves in the chain section, and because of the white in all the prints, I was able to use white thread for all the quilting.

The pretty flower details in the border were all hand appliqued.  I stitched around the applique and added a simple ...

Baltimore to Burke from Virtual Quilter

Happy Australia Day!

This is a long term project file in which I am trying to design a quilt in the style of the Baltimore quilts but with an Australian theme, but I keep adding borders so it is more a medallion quilt. The hardest part is finding background fabrics to use in a large country which has green edges but an interior which features many shades of dirt!

I do like the basket of Australian flora as the centre piece.

Fiddlebob Quilt 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first design!

Love the centre diamond … the rest looks a little busy, but if that part of the quilt is hanging over the edge of the bed it could look fine.

Clamshells 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Playing with borders based on the traditional Clamshell designs.

I love the contrast between the thick and thin borders.

Old German Christmas 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

One of the things I have always loved about designing and making quilts is being able to change the colour scheme to suit the occasion, season, or the colour scheme of the room the item is destined to be used in. In particular, I love adding red, white and green, with touches of gold, to add a touch of Christmas.

And I love that even the cat on the quilt can be colour matched!

Felicity Anderson Quilts 31, 32 from Virtual Quilter

Love it! I don’t think I could live with the background colour, but like the way it looks.

These colours include favourites pink, purple and green, but when I started this project file I thought i should try a colour combination a bit outside my usual comfort zone. I like all the designs, but still have reservations about the background. However I have seen worse colour combinations in quilts, rooms and other people’s wardrobes.

Floral Wedding OP 35, 36 from Virtual Quilter

I love this project file, but one day I will make some changes to the blocks for a new file, or maybe a series of files. Different flowers including an Australian version using native flora. Lots of weddings happen on beaches now, so one with sea shells maybe. I already have beaded version, but there are a lot of mixed beaded version I have drawn, but have never used in designs. Then the bubble rings could become sea foam with applique shells in the centre of the rings.

I love the second design in todays post, so I hope the ...

I like the second one too, but it looks like the cat is not interested.

A Peachy Finish from Quilty Folk

So I finally got Peachy Cameo quilt hand quilted and bound! Lots and lots of distractions this past month and unfortunately, hand quilting did not always make the priority list. It turned out to be such a pleasant quilt, almost restful looking! Turns out that I adore strong blues paired with orangey reds and peach. Who knew?
Peachy Cameo is finished!

The original intent was to use loads and loads of the peach solid fabric, but somehow it only ended up with one wide border. Not terribly unhappy with that outcome as the quilt ended up with a nice peachy ...

Ferns and Flora 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Nice one.

Another nice one … plenty of open spaces for quilting, but that space is rather boring without the quilting. However, I have started redrawing the blocks used in this project, and will probably start a new project file with the new versions sometime in the future, but now this project file is retiring.

Aunt Flo’s Patch 62, 63, 64 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

Restful.

Like the design … not too sure about the fabric choices. If I wanted to make this one I would print out the shopping list in grey scale, and see what jumped off the shelf in the quilt shop.
