Ferns and Flora 14 from Virtual Quilter

I like it!

I have spent time over the last few months trying to tidy up my block library in Electric Quilt. My plan when I get that under control is to start some new project files of virtual quilts, along with a couple for real quilts. I will share the virtual ones as they happen … but not the real ones until they turn into reality, so don’t hold your breath waiting for them.

Floral Cross to Virtual Quilt 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

This design uses one Floral Cross design … with just a few variations, including some wreaths which happened when I lost the spokes of a double cross design … all I had to do was add a circle.

I am pretty sure I found a simple crossing design using this flower in the EQ block library, but though there are a few similar ones, I don’t think they are the one I used. Though perhaps the one I used was already heavily modified before it became a crossing design.

The same block was modified even further so I had some matching ...

Anna Karena 7 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting, but I think the border is too wide, and could use some quilting.

I am still sorting pieced block designs, so am really loving looking at an applique.

Applique Tiles 3 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

Perhaps I should use these blocks for a splashback … waste of time in this house as there is a window just above the kitchen sink, and if we put in new cupboards they would be a bit higher than the current ones.

Nice, but not sure about the background fabric.

I think I would like to have a lighter background, but then the white lillies are going to melt into the background. I just tried black but didn’t like that as the applique designs were overpowered by the extent of the black.

One thing about playing with design in Electric Quilt … always learning about what works and what doesn’t work for me … and if it doesn’t I try to change it.

Fiddlebob Quilt 5 from Virtual Quilter

I like it!

Love the way the applique designs in this series work as quilting motifs.

Beth’s Brunsvigia Quilts 3 from Virtual Quilter

I am going to design a lot of quilts using these blocks while I spend about another eight years waiting for some real flowers. I have to keep telling myself that I cannot move the bulbs or the flowers will not appear for a further ten years!

Stained Glass Diamonds 3 from Virtual Quilter

I started drawing these blocks soon after I bought Electric Quilt 5, and have redrawn most of them since to make them neater than they appear above.

I have also spent time recolouring the designs so that the originals look like it was a very cloudy late evening through the stained glass … now there is bright sunshine outside some really bright glass!

Birds in the Orchard 11 from Virtual Quilter

Usually I turn everything around so the quilt can be used anyway on a double or bigger bed, but thought I would keep just one design with everything facing the same way. I made a queen size sampler quilt for our bed which had a top and bottom, and after twenty years I had to remove the top row because it was falling to pieces.

Perhaps that is why the last few years have been almost devoid of quilt making time, as the top row included a sewing machine and a quilt block in a hoop for hand quilting.

Not ...

Aunt Flo’s Patch 60 from Virtual Quilter

Plenty of background quilting required, but the lack of lines on the near white sandy colour makes me think of a beach where nobody has been walking since the tide went out. Makes me want to find a stick and draw some lines.

Bubbles 5 from Virtual Quilter

This could be a fun idea to use on a baby quilt, but I don’t think it would really be feasible on a large quilt as depicted. I should spend time playing with ideas for little people … and this could be perfect. I do know that fabric of choice would be light coloured batiks and hand dyed, maybe on a darker background than I have used here.

I started playing with this idea ages ago, but I have yet to work out how I would go about making a quilt with hundreds of circles on it.

Playing with designs ...

Textile Inspirations 18 from Virtual Quilter

I love it! Applique and room for quilting, what else could I want?

I might find some time in the next few days to add some quilting lines to this series. I can’t let all that space go to waste!

No more Frogs after this for a while, I promise

Jolly Jumper balloon frog appliqué pattern by Dione Gardner-Stephen at Clever Chameleon

But seriously, can you resist this face?! This adorably agile amphibian is the second option for Block 4 of our Love with a Twist appliqué series. Which puts him in direct competition with the Duck of Attitude from June 21.

Can you choose? Or do you have to make two throw quilts to fit them both in? Of course you can just opt to make the big twin size one and have them play together. </p>

This South African bulb flowers before the foliage appears, but I like a bit of green around the flowers in my garden, so have added my version of the leaves … they just grew a bit too soon in my virtual version.

Fantasy Floral Quilts 16 from Virtual Quilter

Love it.

If I was to make it into a real quilt I would cut those tiny circles a bit bigger, and turn them into yoyos and applique them to the quilt top with the gathered side up to add dimension to the top.
