Playing with Baby Blocks 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

Playtime! Instead of building stacks of blocks I have used Baby Blocks as a quilt layout, and added some applique designs.

It would be interesting with real wooden blocks with applique designs on all six sides … how many ways could the six designs be arranged in a stack of bricks?

Floral Wedding OP 43, 44 from Virtual Quilter

Lots of little flowers to cut and stitch on, but I think it would be worth it for the right recipient.

Oh, so romantic.

Festival Garden 27, 28 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting, bit I suspect it may be a little time consuming to make it real!

Also very interesting, and no less time consuming.

Wattles and Waratahs 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

Love this design, but at this time of the year I do not particularly like wattles as they are in flower … and get up my nose so that I am frequently sneezing!

Not that I can blame the two varieties depicted in the above designs, as they do not grow in this area of the country, but their cousins are doing their job well.

EQ Album +51, 52 from Virtual Quilter

I love playing with sashing, making some of it the same fabric as the background fabric.

I like the placement of light and dark backgrounds in the second design.

Felicity Anderson Quilts 45, 46 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

Love the centre block.

After selecting the first design I started playing with the designs in the project file, as I wanted to change the design which was next in line. I deleted a couple, and added a couple of handfuls.

I like the new background colour, which I had introduced as part of a couple of designs, making it the dominate background in all future designs. There will be more quilting added to future designs too.

Beads Again 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

Beads again, and I am back home again after a week with 30 like minded friends, old and new, sometimes stitching, sometimes talking, and often laughing.

The shape of the beads in these designs is my favourite applique shape … simple in itself, but can be used to create an unlimited selection of designs on projects from a pot holder to a king size quilt.

Ann’s Album Q ‘n’ A 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

Love today’s designs, but my favourite of the two is the first!

Love the quilting motifs more in the second one.

Strawberry Fete 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

Looks delicious … my favourite fruit!

Thank goodness strawberry season is approaching, though it feels as though it is moving very slowly!

Must stock up on ice-cream just in case there is a sudden burst of warm weather!

Ferns and Flora 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

Very dainty! Lots of room for some dainty quilting motifs!

The second design is still rather dainty, and there ARE quilting motifs filling the spaces.

Anna Karena 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

I love the sashing in this design. I rarely use sashing in my designs, though in many of the quilts I have made I have used sashing, but not one as interesting as the one shown above.

I like the border on the second design, but am asking myself what if I make some changes of scale of the end elements?

PS I apologize for not posting this earlier, but I had a few other things I wanted to do and forgot, but I did get those other things done!

Blue and Yellow Album 4, 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

I started this project file with the idea that I would use a colour combination that was far from one of my favourites … the result is a project file I manage to ignore most of the time! My apologies for any blue and yellow fans out there!

The linking blocks made me think of square dancing, and that makes me wonder if anybody still knows how to square dance.

I like the last one in today’s collection.

Beaded Blocks and Borders 37, 38 from Virtual Quilter

String of Beads designs are a great way to use scraps, or fabrics purchased for the project. They are also easy to applique by hand or machine if you use fusible webbing … not so easy if you do the needleturn method.

I love the simplicity of the second design, and the spaces which can be filled with quilting, but I cannot pick a favourite today.

Also interesting … and both of them are pretty.

Stained Glass Project 31, 32 from Virtual Quilter

Pretty!

That would have to be one very big window to include that many elements. However, would look lovely on a bed if made with fabrics, including hand dyes and batiks.

The centre panel would be lovely in a door,

A Whiter Shade on Gold Quilted 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

I love leaving spaces in my designs which can be filled with quilting motifs. I also would outline the applique pieces in these designs.

The spaces left between the motifs and the applique in these designs could be filled with a background filler in a thread matching the background, leaving the motifs to stand out.

Sunshine and Mushrooms after the Rain 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

Too cold to grow mushrooms at the moment … and a bit dry as well.

Mind you, I haven’t tasted field mushrooms since I stopped living on a farm, but if my memory is working well, the mushrooms in my quilt designs look more like toadstools!

Round Robin Medallions 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

Make a block … add a border … add another border … and keep going until the quilt top is big enough for the bed you want to cover.

This project file is all applique borders, but you can mix and match pieced and applique as you wish.

I like both of these two, and would love the centre block in the middle of the first one.

Wattles and Waratahs 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

Tis the season for sneezes … wattles are flowering in force around Australia at the moment, reminding us of why our national colours are green and gold.

I love the first design, but it looks more like a tablecloth than a bed quilt to me. Lots of room for quilting.

The second design is more like a bed quilt … wattle still features, but without the sneezes.
