Wee Little Quilt from Humble Quilts

This little quilt used to be a much  bigger quilt, but as quilts do, they wear out and get loved to pieces. So it was made into this little dolly quilt.

Each patch measures a little less than an inch. It's likely that it was to finish at 1" but has shrunk over time. Love the bits of cheddar.

And that black!!

Our weather has been cold, but look how pretty this day was! I hope you saw my video on Instagram. You could see so many mountains that I'm surrounded by.

As I prepare to host Thanksgiving ...

Cigar Ribbons and Antique Block Challenge from Humble Quilts

The quilt below was in the Latimer Textile booth. I must not have been super impressed with the entire quilt because I don't have a photo!

Only close-ups of these cool ribbons! From what I've read 1875-1911 was the cigar ribbon popularity years.
I find them so fascinating!

How are you all coming on your block challenge?
Marian shared the start of hers on the facebook group and someone wanted to see my blocks.
They are on my design wall waiting for inspiration!

How about yours?
If you have no clue what I'm referring to check this ...

I don’t typically purchase quilts–in fact this is only the second one I’ve ever purchased in my life. But I’ve been wanting to make a Double Wedding […]

A couple of days before the quilt show my friend, Laurie (Grotto Girl) called to remind me she would be a vendor! She sells vintage and antique quilts and recently purchased 2 estates of kits, fabric and so many goodies.

I haven't seen her since before the pandemic so it was extra wonderful!

So many goodies!

I posted a few things on the facebook group and made some sales for her!!

This backing! WOW!

I bought an older piece of madder designed by Jo Morton. and then enjoyed looking closer at all her goods!
I hope your week is ...

NW Quilt Expo from Humble Quilts

Many of you may not know but Oregon is one of a handful of states that still have an indoor mask mandate. Our governor has tried to mandate outdoor masking but that has failed miserably.

Anyway, it was my FIRST quilt show since last October when I went to the scaled down version of the Aurora historical Quilt Show.  I was so excited!

Here's my favorites from the show.

The story captured my heart on this quilt. Read below.

Sorry I cut this off!

The others are from the collection of the Latimer Quilt and Textile Center in Tillamook ...

Stringin' on a Friday from Humble Quilts

My friend Suzette sent me a photo of some "mindless" string blocks she is working on. Our hospitals are getting full to capacity with Covid patients and smoke has been heavy in the town she is in. She finds this kind of sewing is soothing and I agree!

I'll add that our governor has called in the National Guard to assist the local hospital. Not only are they shorthanded, but overwhelmed. I hope they get some relief from the added hands of the National Guard.

Here in Madras we have been relatively smoke free, which is so surprising. Nearby ...

Hand Pieced~ But By Whom? from From the Strawberry Patch...

I had the privilege of quilting a hand-pieced beauty this past week. Oh, how I'd love to know the history of this one. How old is it? From where did it come? If you study closely, you can see the hand stitches that were lovingly placed, joining together this lively array of feedsacks and vintage fabrics. The top was purchased by a friend of a friend. She machine washed it (!!) before I received

Linda's Antique 9 Patch Variation Quilt from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

Last fall, my customer Linda, had contacted me to request my basting service for 3 quilts she planned to hand quilt.  Though I don't get these types of requests often, it is another service I offer.  Two of the quilts were smaller pieces and the third was an antique quilt she purchased at the Sisters Quilt show many years ago.  I was able to complete the basting fairly quickly and she picked them up when she dropped off her  Brown and Black Diamonds quilt

A couple of weeks later, when I called her to tell her that the Brown ...

Grassy Creek is a Flimsy and Hazel on the Antique Quilts from The Modern Diary

Decided to get out the antique quilts that my grandmother had made for her son in law's second wedding and last baby.  I have told you the wild story on here before.  So here is Hazel on my Uncle Rick's baby quilt.
Finally finished up the string borders and got them on (they fit perfectly!) Grassy Creek.  I need to get a picture outside...we will see if it is sunny enough today.  Snow is melted but things are still a bit wet.  Sunshine immediately did her happy dance on top of it.

Here is Hazel on top ...

Well-Loved Ladies QAL: Sashing from Nestlings By Robin

YAY!
You are so close to the finish;)
This week we are on to the
sashing for the blocks.
Making the decision to blend
the sashing so the stars jump out
or to give your blocks a small
bit of framework will be
the hardest part of this step.
I promise!
http://www.nestlingsbyrobin.com/index.html
My blocks rested on my
guest bed for a good solid
week just as you see them here.
I just couldn't wrap my
brain around how it would
look when done and I
didn't want to waste time
making all those little
star points just to hate ...

Yellow and Orange from Humble Quilts

If you are in my Facebook group I shared a special exhibit coming to the New England Quilt Museum called Yellow and Orange!

Two colors when used in quilts really get in your face! LOL Here is my orange stars in a time warp quilt. I never have regretted this color to use as a setting.

This antique with chrome yellow is quite spectacular and makes a big statement!

Get a sneak peak of some of the "Quilts from the Pilgrim/Roy Collection" HERE

How do you feel about these colors in quilts?

Welcome to block 12

The photo above is a detail of
a circa 1860 quilt in my collection.
Normally I show you the block
and you can see a bit of it
in the upper corner, but I wanted
you to see the fun border
that was added too.

As we come closer to adding
a border, I wanted you to see
that I had other options from
my collection and it was
sooo hard to choose!

The quilting on this one
is all over the place from
clamshell, to flowers ...

More Connections - The Waternish Star Quilt Story from - Barb Robson ::: quilter

My “Waternish Star” - primarily hand pieced, hand quilted

My “Waternish Star” - primarily hand pieced, hand quilted

The inspiration for this quilt came from a quilt purchased from Wilfred Fraser in 1972 which is now in the NS Museum collection.

Waternish 46.JPG

My brother-in-law, Scott Robson (former Curator of Architecture and Furnishings at the NS Museum for many years, now retired), wrote the following about the quilt:

“The original quilt measures - binding to binding 156 cm x 161.5 cm (both ends were cut off).  Each 'row' of the construction is about 10.5 cm, as Polly Greene’s booklet Basic Quilting presents ...
