Uptown BOM+ Museum Quilts from Humble Quilts

It was a little dark when I finished this block last night. Uptown block 15.
Whoop! Whoop! I think we are closing in to the end!

Look at this adorable little dolly quilt that was at the New England Quilt Museum!

I like that it is a wee bit humble.

At first glance I'm never a fan of this style of quilt.....

But an upclose look changes my mind really fast!

I'll bid you adieu with this lovely couple!

Have a wonderful weekend!

What is a Scrap Quilt? How to Show Off your Unique Style! from Repro Quilt Lover

Scrap quilts are one of the most fun and creative ways to use your fabric stash! A scrap quilt is a style of patchwork quilt, usually pieced, made from many pieces of fabric in varying sizes and patterns. With endless possibilities, it is the perfect way to show off your unique style.

There is a lot of nostalgia associated with quilting and the romantic notion that quilts were made because families couldn’t afford to buy fabrics expressly for the purpose of making a quilt. Many think of scrap quilts as the result of a quilter fondly using leftover fabrics ...

Antique Quilt Found in Virginia from Humble Quilts

As I was prepping to vend at the Oregon Quilt Festival in Salem, I realized I never took ANY photos of this amazing quilt! So I spread it out in my kitchen and snapped these before packing it up to take to the show.  It measures about 80"x80" and has this giant red border!

It has some simple cable quilting and squares. (filler because the cable wasn't wide enough?)

It has some lovely madder prints and mourning purples,

It has some issues- mostly the browns.

The green/blue print has been exposed to sun or bleach so it ...

Antique Quilts and Textiles from Humble Quilts

Here are a few quilts and clothing from our stops at antique stores in Virginia.

This was one of the favorites that got away! The seller wouldn't budge on the price.

What a fun folk art style eagle!

This was at the VA quilt museum shop.

What's not to love about double pink and poison green?!

I'll be home today and have no plans to go anywhere for awhile!
Have an amazing weekend friends!

Virginia Quilt Museum & More from Humble Quilts

Medallions was an exhibit that the VA Quilt Museum had on display. Here's a couple of the very old ones.

Someone asked me to take photos of their quilts in the museum, but when you comment as anonymous, I have no way of knowing who you are. I responded on the comment, but didn't hear back from you before I left. I'm sorry!

We saw several trucks full of turkeys!
I found some of this fabric at Patchwork Plus and now Laurie and I have a challenge!

Ebay Find- Panel Flag Quilt from Humble Quilts

This is amazing! My friend Laurie sent me the link to this ebay quilt that really belongs in a museum. Starting price was $1500, no bids

The description:

Now here is something special,  a hand stitched and signed American flag quilt

resided in Great Bend, Susquehanna, Pennsylvania) from flags acquired at the 1876
Philadelphia Centennial Exposition (see the ink inscription ) Measuring
appx 80" x 67", there's scattered moisture staining throughout and two small tears
at the top in the panel showing the main building ...

Old Aurora Colony Quilts from Humble Quilts

Another beautiful day in Oregon to visit the Old Aurora Colony Museum Quilt Show!

The show looked a bit different this year, but still enjoyable. I'm going to share some of the colony quilts owned by the museum. I never get tired of seeing these lovely quilts!

The blocks are fairly small. Maybe 5"

The fabric is incredible!

This looks brown, but it is actually purple.

So is this one.

That wide border! Wow!

A Little Stitching, Cutting and a Few Finds from Cheryl's Teapots2Quilting

On my last trip I found a new flannel Jelly Roll at an antique shop for a couple of bucks.  I didn't realize that this Jelly Roll only had 18 strips (not the usual 40 strips).  Still, it was cute fabric and I used it to make a small Jelly Roll Race quilt.

mini Jelly Roll race quilt top

I bought some flannel yardage on Monday so that I can add borders and binding to this little quilt top.  It will make a cute baby quilt for a boy.  It's always nice to have a couple of baby ...

Two Color Crib Quilt from Humble Quilts

I do not ever recall showing this quilt on my blog. And if I have, I guess we will look at it again!

I picked up this summer crib quilt in Maine this spring. Such a happy primitive quilt!

It has no batting is why I call it a summer quilt.

You can see many of these cotton ties, but there are also hidden ties keeping this quilt together. If you look close at the photo above you can see them.

Also, this was made with half square triangles, not squares. Leftover hst maybe? We will never know.

Here's ...

Many of you loved the amazing quilts I shared on Wednesday so I thought I'd share this super fun memory from 2010. I was part of the kickoff of the Oregon state documentation in the town of Sisters.

The first quilt that came through the door knocked us over! LOL You will need to click on the photos to get a closer look.

Oregon Quilt Documentation

Since I am out of town I thought I'd share an old post of antique quilts.

Airing of the Quilts 2015

I saw a blurb on Bill's facebook about a quilt show and lecture he was doing this past
weekend, so I took the opportunity to go to my first quilt show of the year!
I met Bill Volckening at the debut of the Oregon Quilt Documentation
project in 2010 and we run into each other now and then.

Uptown July Blocks and MORE! from Humble Quilts

My July blocks of Uptown are complete. I like to lay out all of the completed blocks, but my sewing room is a creative disaster right now! Which is good, but I like to work in a clean room!

I thought I'd share the quilts I've made that Gay at Sentimental Stitches has patterned from antique quilts she owns. She does such a great job and so accurate!
Here's the link to her shop where you can find all of these and MORE!- HERE

Joanna S Rose Exhibit Red and White Quilts from Humble Quilts

I'm sure many of you will remember that I was able to attend the big red and white quilt exhibit in New York City spring of 2011. The quilts were exciting, seeing my quilt friends was exciting, my first time in the big apple was exciting and it was also my first big trip with my daughter. That was exciting and the entire trip was completely memorable.

We did an awesome harbor tour. Such a fun way to see the city and Lady Liberty.

From our rooftop.

We saw amazing quilts at the museums.

And of course, the main ...

Parsonsfield, Maine from Humble Quilts

Don't you just love the name Parsonsfield? I have a friend who lives in a 200 year old house in Parsonsfield, Maine so we went for a visit. It really was the highlight of our trip.

Paula is a talented quilter who has taught and quilted many many years.
Some of the quilts I'll show here are made by her, some are antique and some antique blocks she has completed. She shared her antique block challenge with me, but I'll save that for our challenge reveal.

Cute idea for an antique block challenge.

New England Quilt Museum from Humble Quilts

Laurie didn't need to convince me too hard to join her on a trip to quilty trip to New England.
Our first stop was the New England Quilt Museum.
The antique quilts displayed were beautiful!

I'll let the quilts speak for themselves!

I thought I took a photo of the tag, but I cannot find it in my photos now. This quilt is older than Oregon! hahaha

Extraordinary chintz!

And I think the Piony was my favorite. For all the Humble Quilts kind of reasons.

Laura Lane works part time at the museum, so we got to spend ...

Antique Quilts Repost from Humble Quilts

This is a repost from 2010:

The High Desert Museum had an exhibit of Pioneer Quilts that I was able to see the week before the Sister's show. If any of you are ever in the area this is a fantastic museum and I'd highly recommend it. Here are a few highlights from the pioneer quilts.

I'm a huge fan of four block applique. I thought the border was interesting in that it wasn't a loose vine but instead sort of zig-zaggy. (I'm having a hard time pulling descriptive words out ...

Zoom Guild Meetings from Humble Quilts

On Monday I presented my Reruns: Quilts Inspired by the Past lecture/slideshow to Common Threads Quilt Guild in Colorado.

I love that we have many options now! The pandemic has forced us to be creative. They have a small group and I could see them all there! They had me on Zoom on a big screen. This is the first time I've presented in this way. Such a good idea for small groups that do not have the finances to fly speakers in to the area.

In person will always be the preferred way, but creativity is the ...

Wee Little Quilt from Humble Quilts

This little quilt used to be a much  bigger quilt, but as quilts do, they wear out and get loved to pieces. So it was made into this little dolly quilt.

Each patch measures a little less than an inch. It's likely that it was to finish at 1" but has shrunk over time. Love the bits of cheddar.

And that black!!

Our weather has been cold, but look how pretty this day was! I hope you saw my video on Instagram. You could see so many mountains that I'm surrounded by.

As I prepare to host Thanksgiving ...
