Happy Birthday Quilted Joy! from Quilted Joy

That’s right! October is the Quilted Joy shop‘s 6th birthday! It’s hard to believe it’s already been six years since the shop opened. I have to admit, when APQS first asked me to open up a store, I was a little unsure about it. I didn’t have experience running a shop, but I understood it would require a lot of work. But the idea stayed with me, and I realized this was the next step in my journey.

Introducing the Quilted Joy Clubhouse – An Online Machine Quilting Guild from Quilted Joy

Here in Louisville, KY I’ve been very fortunate to find lots of folks who love machine quilting as much as me. For the last several years, we’ve gathered together once a month to share that love of machine quilting. When we first started our longarm guild there were maybe 5-8 people coming every month. Now that group has grown to more than 20 people regularly joining us (and I’m running out of chairs for the crowd!).

I know that there are many machine quilters who are not this lucky. While they can usually find a quilting guild ...

Using Children’s Line Drawings as Quilt Blocks from Quilted Joy

I’ve been keeping this project a secret for a while but I can finally share it with you!! First, you need to meet my triplets. Here’s a photo from the way back machine.

Angela Huffman with her three kids

They are in college now but back when they were small they would spend hours drawing and I’ve saved a number of my favorite little line drawings from them. This is one of my favorite photos ever of my kidlets. Notice that BirdMan’s little boots are on the wrong feet. Don’t you love that? </p>

My Ribbon Winning Quilts from the Kentucky State Fair 2018! from Quilted Joy

I love the fair. Seriously LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the fair. Growing up, my family and I would go to the fair 4-5 times each year. There is so much to love about the Kentucky State Fair but my favorite thing was always the QUILTS!! I haven’t entered in a number of years but this year I decided to make it a priority. And…. I won a few shiny ribbons! FYI: All of my quilts entered were done without a computer. They are all done with free motion quilting!

That big ribbon you see is the coveted Best of Machine ...

How to Quilt Garden Gate Feathers + Free Practice Worksheet! from Quilted Joy

A couple weeks ago you guys got a peek at Pam’s adorable Paper Doll Quilt for her first granddaughter. I had so much fun quilting this quilt for Pam because it’s just so dang cute! There were so many opportunities for me to try lots of different quilting designs. I really got to play with my Millie longarm machine and I think we all need that sometimes. In addition to lots of fun background fillers, I also quilted a curling and undulating feather border that I’m now in love with. I wanted to share a closer look ...

Patriot Quilt for Love of Quilting Show from Quilted Joy

What is the oldest UFO (Unfinished Object) in your quilting studio? For me, it was this quilt which I made in the aftermath of 9/11. I was so distraught during this time of heartbreak in our country. The only way I knew how to channel all of that grief was through quilting.

Patriot Quilt by Angela Huffman

I decided to take the Patriot Quilt to demonstrate on the 3200 series of the Love of Quilting PBS show. Sara and I enjoyed playing with the many techniques this quilt has to offer.

I have been waiting to show you this since the Spring and I can finally reveal it! I’d like to introduce you to my friend Guss.

Isn’t he fabulous? You may have noticed that we are in love with the Laura Heine style fabric collage animals here. Our students have made a bunch of them. Penguins are my spirit animal so I wanted to create my own using a line drawing. Here’s a photo of him in progress taped to my wall.

I used Steam a Seam 2 which is sticky and repositionable which allowed me to ...
