Christmas Quilts from caledonia quilter

Most years I show you my same three Christmas quilts - one for the King bed, one for the Queen bed, and one for the living room.  THIS year I'm showing you some customer quilts.

This is a gorgeous selection of Cardinal fabrics.  It's not exactly a Christmas quilt, but the birds always evoke winter.

This one's really cute - just squares of Christmas fabrics stitched into a throw.

There's a ton of work in this one - Round the Twist or Garden Trellis quilt.  This version used a lot of half-square triangles.

And a very Canadian hockey quilt ...

accuquilt from Making A Lather

An exciting day - my accuquilt order has arrived. Accuquilt had a 60 % off sale for the black Friday shopping days. I have all the main dies I want, and, I use them all the time. And it did seem that they marked everything up 20% to start. But, I spent a little while shopping, putting dies in my cart, and, then, taking them out of the cart. To be honest, I think I confused myself , LOL. I waited a day to think about it, and then ordered these goodies.

It was a big, heavy box. The top die will cut ...

scrap bag from Making A Lather

Sometimes, after cataract surgery, the eye will still make a film at the back of the new lens. I am one of those. I had the first cataract surgery last fall, and another in January. By now, my eyes had healed well enough, that, I could have a lazer treatment of the membrane behind the lens. I did one last week and one yesterday. There is nothing to it except the fear of the unknown. It was quick and painless, but the eye is dilated for most of the day and that is funky.

One of my favorite purchases at ...

Desiderata from Sew Karen-ly Created...

Posting this final project of 2019 as an Island Batik Ambassador is bittersweet, as it is in fact my last project as an Ambassador...at least for now.
The theme for this month could not be more perfect for me:
Explore the world of 3D using your creative talents for this month’s challenge. Bring your inner artist out by using optical illusions, textures, trapunto or whatever else will make your quilt pop into life!
Over the years I have explored many facets of 3D and illusion, and taught workshops on isometric perspective using 60 degree angles.  If interested, you ...

Retreat Stitching Success from From the Strawberry Patch...

After my fabulous weekend away at the Quiltville Inn Retreat*, even with all the distraction of the beautiful and incredibly accommodating setting, there's more; believe it or not I actually finished quilt tops and have show and tell of my own! This little beauty (quilt measures 45" square) is the 2012 Summer Sampler Sew-along from the Temecula Quilt Company blog. I had half of the 4" blocks

Faceted Churn Dash {Finished Wall Hanging} from Little Bunny Quilts

If you are in our Honey, Bunny, and Doll FB group, you've seen all of the progress on this wall hanging!

I hosted a "casual QAL" for our Faceted pattern collection on FB this fall -- it was a lot of fun to do something from an already written pattern rather than a brand new pattern and it's something I will do again!

Returning back to the beginning, I cut the majority of the scraps used in this project using my Accuquilt cutter.

A lot of half-square triangles later, I incrementally made the pieces and parts for this quilt ...

Tobermory Retreat Recap & Technology Mixed With Idiots & Scammers from caledonia quilter

I abandoned hubby for six days - he and the dog were feeding each other kibbles and bits for a week.  Although, a friend took pity on him and had him over for a roast beef dinner mid-week so he didn't starve.

I played THREAD CHICKEN and won.

The railing with completed projects.  This is always such a satisfying pic!  Debbie definitely took the prize this year - completing all those wee monthly quilts.  So cute.

Of course, cocktails.

I work on my Double Wedding Ring for one day every year.  The Tobermory cottage is a great space for it.  This ...

Sweet Dreams, Little One... from Sew Karen-ly Created...

While most folks involved in the quilting industry are currently enjoying Quilt Market in Houston this weekend, some of us remain home...sewing! However, one of my quilts is on display there, so I am feeling anything but left out.  This is the third Quilt Market in a row that I have designed a quilt to show off a new fabric collection for Island Batik.  It's a real honour to have a design accepted by this premier fabric company.
"Sweet Dreams" photographed in an antique cradle owned by Beth Munroe, Amherst, N.S.

Cleopatra’s Wild Child from If These Threads Could Talk

The fabrics shown in this post were given to me by Island Batik. It’s Island Batik Ambassador Challenge time Again! October is “Top it Off” month.

I was charged with making a table topper any size, any holiday, but must include “applique techniques”. Last month I made a child inspired quilt, I was supposed to use my “BOB” (Block on Board) die from AccuQuilt. My BOB was Cleopatra’s Fan. Somehow I messed up and did not use my Cleopatra’s fan die in my design. So, I decided to combine it with my October challenge in an effort ...

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving from Clever Chameleon

Happy Thanksgiving table top quilt with turkey at Clever Chameleon

Wishing all my Canadian friends a wonderful holiday for the coming weekend

Australians as a whole don’t do Thanksgiving, although many traditional churches do have a low-key harvest thanksgiving service in our late summer or early autumn. But I like thankfulness, and since it’s likely impossible to indulge in too much thankfulness, the Chameleon and I are getting on the Canadian bandwagon today. Happy Thanksgiving for the weekend and Monday, Canadian friends and everyone!

It wasn’t until last year that I became aware that Canada has its own Thanksgiving Day, separate from the American occasion. And then ...

Talking Turkey: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Talking Turkey colour board at Clever Chameleon

October’s Island Batik Challenge is “Top It Off”

Top it off button for October's Island Batik challenge

My challenge as an Island Batik Ambassador in October is to: create a holiday runner or table topper, any size; must include appliqué. But don’t you think that’s a bit too easy for the Chameleon? He’s a challenge veteran by now!

So, let’s make it a proper challenge then. Purely self-imposed. Hmmm…… How about also: use the Accuquilt Cleopatra’s Fan die supplied in the July ambassador supplies box; make it juvenile; and choose a culturally irrelevant holiday. That should Top it right Off!

Pieced Cleopatra's Fans blocks at Clever Chameleon for turkey feathers

Hahaha. Sure! Luckily ...
