Bloomtown from Sew Preeti Quilts

Island Batik's September Challenge and Blog Hop theme is Adventurous Applique and is jointly sponsored by Aurifil Threads.

Here is my response.

Finished!

For this challenge we were to use our assigned Spring 2024 Bundles along with the matching threads provided by Aurifil.

I received Geometric Symphony designed by Jerry Khiev. This collection has beige, fuchsia and navy fabrics in bold geometric prints.

We knew about the theme of the challenge for months and I had come up with several possible ideas. But when I saw the fabric, I had to discard each one of ...

How to Use the AccuQuilt Sewing Machine Die from Patchwork Posse

Let’s make something super cute today – the Sewing Machine Die from AccuQuilt. This die features a few knobs, buttons, thread and place for your sewing machine.

I used mine on a cute project (coming soon), but really- this applique can be put on any project you’d like.

In the past, I’ve used a die like this on a baby quilt. You can see the kitty quilt here.

I kept things simple with this applique project – I used fusible and I did raw edge applique to secure it to the background fabric. I’ll show more of that ...

Charming: Tapestry from Becca's Crazy Projects

I have an embarrassingly large stack of quilts waiting for binding. I quilted this charm quilt in March and I attached the binding.
I added my simple label to this one.
Here it is. Finished! I should pull out another stack of charm squares.

Want to see how I cut all of these half-square triangles from 5" charm squares quickly and accurately? Check out this die-cutting post (corrected link).

Star and Cross Quilt Block / AccuQuilt from Patchwork Posse

Sewing up a quilt block can be really quite easy when you use a machine to cut the pieces.

Using the AccuQuilt cutting machine I am sharing the Star and Cross Quilt Block. It has quite a few pieces in the quilt block, but overall after the cutting is finished – it sews up pretty quickly.

30's Playtime from Becca's Crazy Projects

There was a time when I would pick up 30's reproduction prints. At some point, a quilting friend gave me some she had. So far, I've made at least three quilts using this fabric. Let this be a lesson about over-buying fabrics.
I cut the charm packs into half-square triangle units using the Accuquilt Go. You have to be careful when cutting 5" charms because there isn't much room for mistakes.
I made a bunch of 4-patch in 4-patch blocks.
In the end, I had enough blocks to make a fun, scrappy quilt. Now it just needs ...

Red Block Done from Quilts....etc.

Charming: Tapestry from Becca's Crazy Projects

Over the last week I've managed to sew the half-square triangle units together. I'm pleased with the layout. It is scrappy and not very controlled. If I had placed each half-square triangle I would have a completely different outcome. Maybe next time.
I cut the inner and out borders, and binding.
Nicely pressed binding ready for the quilt. Now to get the borders added so I can do some quilting.

Charming: Tapestry from Becca's Crazy Projects

I'm sure you've been wondering how my die cut charm squares project is coming along. I've been sewing them up into units and pressing them open. This is the perfect kind of sewing if you have only a couple minutes. You can piece a couple units and walk away without feeling like you will lose your place.
The I played around with the layout. I sewed the units mostly randomly, with the only rule being there should be contrast between the two triangles.
This is almost the final layout. I think I moved a couple units around ...

This and That from Becca's Crazy Projects

The Charming quilt still doesn't have binding.
I picked up more quilts and batting from Quilts for Kids on Saturday.
I stopped by the big box store and picked up some yarn I didn't need but I wanted it anyway.
My next Charming quilt is coming along slowly. Winter weather may have slowed me down. What have you been up to?

Die Cutting Half-Square Triangles from Becca's Crazy Projects

I've had this fabric for years. How long? More than ten years. Sometime between 2010 and 2013 I was a member of the Fat Quarter Shop's Moda Charm Pack Club. At the time, they would send me six charm packs by the same designer (the club has changed over the years but if you are in love with charm squares, or other pre-cuts, it might be perfect for you). I have stacks and stacks of these. Sometimes I even have a couple yards of coordinating fabric. Every once in a while I decide it is time to use ...

Nine Patches from Becca's Crazy Projects

I had so many blue bricks I decided to try something new. This quilt was made with 2.5" by 4.5" bricks set in nine-patch blocks. Then I added a strip between each block and alternated the rows. I'm really pleased with how this one turned out.

Scrappy Bricks from Becca's Crazy Projects

I've been working on some more scrappy bricks quilts.
These are the perfect project if you have loads of scraps and only a little bit of time to sew. You just sew a couple bricks, or a couple blocks and set it aside. It is also a good one for leaders and enders. both of these are made with 2.5" by 4.5" bricks. I use a 4.5" by 4.5" square as the center of each block. These will both finish around 36" by 36".

Bye Bye 2023, Hello 2024! from Sew Preeti Quilts

It is January 1, 2024. First day of the new year - one day to reflect and introspect before the onslaught of work and responsibilities.

A review post is always tricky. What do I include? What do I leave out? And how do I say it? Should it be just quilting? But my feelings are so entangled with the threads of my quilts. Can you really keep your work and thoughts in water-tight compartments?

Unable to separate my feelings from my work

I will try to focus on my quilts and if my feelings seep in so be it. Here are ...

In the Rear View Mirror - 2023 from DaySpringQuilter

I confess to always being a bit anxious on December 31st.  For as long as I can remember in my adult years it has always meant fiscal year end deadlines and making sure all those journal entries and the final bank deposit for the year are done and posted before the GL does its thing and empties out all the net income to retained earnings.  For all those non-accounting friends, welcome to the inside of my compartmentalized brain.

I've always been a better performer if there is a deadline looming.  In fact, when I was doing my BCom degree ...
