Different , and I love it.
The big question is … how would you quilt the outer blocks in the second design? Something very simple, or something very busy …. or something in between. I do think I would use matching thread.

read moreIt is simple to use a large block in the centre, with a narrow strip border included in the block dimensions so the border of blocks will fit neatly.
The centre block is 34 x 34 inches, with a 1 inch strip border to make it 36 x 36 inches, so the 12 x 12 inch blocks fit neatly around the centre.
My favourite is the first one today … love the diagonal lines.

… but I love the last one!
Simple layout starts with a 34 inch block, with a 1 inch border, then two 12 inch borders, the first with 3 blocks each side, the second with 5 blocks on each side.
