Mini blocks from Espritpatch

The mini series sew-along is finished, there are no new blocks released and we have until the end of the month to use the blocks into "something" to be an official finisher. I wasn't sure what to make or even how to set my blocks but over the week-end, I trimmed them, removed the paper (that took FOREVER!) and started playing with them.

I eventually settled on an on-point setting with plain squares in the middle. To make it a little more interesting, I decided to border the plain squares with a tiny solid border, I picked the turquoise ...

Last mini block from Espritpatch

The last block for the mini-series quilt-along was due on Saturday and I finished it just in time. It was rather intricate and challenging with its 93 pieces in a 4' block. It is a lovely block too.

Now that I have all 9 blocks sewn, I need to think about how to use them....

More mini blocks from Espritpatch

Incredibly, I have managed to keep up with the Mini Series Sew Along! I finished last week's block last night but didn't post it until today as I got confused by the deadline, but never mind, it is indeed finished. The block was a triangle geese block.

The block for this week is a off-centered log cabin that can either be made as one quarter or 4 smaller quarters to make a "bubble". I went for the second option and made 4 little 2' blocks
then assembled into one 4' block.
There is only one block left for ...

Mini blocks from Espritpatch

In between the sewing for the NHS, I have made 2 more mini blocks for the Mini Series Sew Along

The first was this hexagonal blocks I finished last week

and the second is the stretched geese that is due by Sunday. This one is definitely not perfect.,,
3 more blocks and the sew-along will be over already. I am really liking those tiny mini little blocks. They are definitely a challenge to make but they are so pretty.

Mini blocks from Espritpatch

The mini series block this week is the pineapple block, with only 97 pieces of fabric in that little 4.5' square! This took such a loooong time to make but I am happy to report that it is finished!

There was also a bonus block this week which is a string block, this one was so much easier and faster to make!
2 more blocks this month and I am still on track for the sew-along, how amazing...

Long lost blocks? from Espritpatch

On Thursday I deep dived into some drawers in my sewing room. I found some treasures, some things to part with when normal life resume and also some stuff for the bin. Among the findings were piles of blocks from swaps or bees I did years ago. In the days of Flicker, I used to join in about everything that was going on so I ended up with lots of different blocks that I sadly stashed away for "later". I also found a big pile (72 of them) of simple blue blocks made of 4 x 2.5' strips and ...

Mini blocks from Espritpatch

It is now week 2 of the mini sew along and the block this week is Courthouse Steps.

I selected a collection of Kona Solids from my stash in a similar colourway than my oakshott fabrics to make my block.
And I also made another Log Cabin block with the new fabric selection
Smaller than the previous one
2 blocks finished this month

A finished top ... and backing too! from Espritpatch

Last week, I finished all the blocks for the Threadology Quilt-Along from last year on the Fat Quarter Shop blog, so the next step was to put them all together.

Because I sew all the blocks from my scrap baskets with no thoughts on the colour arrangement or final layout. I started laying the blocks following the pattern set but my colours didn't work well together so I changed it to my liking

I digged deep into my stash to find some fabric for the borders.
And the backing of the quilts is pieced too with the remaining big ...

New projects from Espritpatch

I was so happy to finish my last Threadology blocks that I decided to reward myself and start one or maybe two new projects....

I joined the Alison Glass mini series quilt along with its tiny mini paper-pieced blocks. First one is a log cabin with logs that are less than 1/4' wide!

I finished my first block and I love it but I'm worried that the Oakshott fabric might fray so I'm thinking of changing for a more tighter woven fabric.
I also started a project from a pattern/ sew along from last year: Sewing Studio ...

All the blocks! from Espritpatch

Well, I wasn't supposed to have as much time to sew lately, the week-end plan was rather busy but, of course, in the current climate, all fell apart. Last week, after school activities started to be cancelled progressively and on Friday, schools shut their doors. So the evenings have been freer, no taxi service required, and the week-end has been rather quiet. We've taken advantage of the nice weather to go on a family bike ride on Sunday and we also played board games together. And I have used my extra free time for some sewing :-)
Of course ...

Threadology blocks 5 from Espritpatch

Catching up on the Threadology blocks was in my plans for March, I had vaguely thought I could probably make one set every week to finish the top by the end of the month, which is my One Monthly Goal for March. Well I haven't really been able to keep up so far. We are already starting the third week of March and I have only finished the big block of series 5 (during the first week)

and I finally finished the 4 small ones in the same series this week.
Now I have 3 more series to complete ...

Back to an oldie.... from Espritpatch

Last year I started several projects at the beginning of the year and I don't think I finished any. I parked them while working on presents and other stuff and they've been sliding down the pile quietly. Well this week I digged out one of them. I picked the Threadology quilt-along again. I had made the first 3 series of blocks last year. I made serie 4 this week, 1 large churn dash block and 4 smaller ones.

And with these additional 5 blocks I'm half way through the blocks for this quilt top. Let's hope ...

A quilt top from Espritpatch

I tackled the few remaining blocks for my vintage kitchen top last week and put the top together at the weekend.

First I had to do the stack of bowls

And then the 4 little flying geese blocks

Before I had all the pieces to finish the top.

The pattern has 3 rounds of plain borders but I'm not sure I'll add some as the top is already quite big. Ready for quilting I think!

I really happy that I've finished it as I had picked it as my One monthly goal

Dear Jane Row D from Espritpatch

My poor Dear Jane must feel abandoned again. I had blocks with me on every one of my work trip but I did stitch one thread at all. No time on the way in or while away and no energy left after the business meetings so no sewing on the way back either. Finally I managed to pick it up again during the Christmas break and finished D2 Mouse in the Mirror. This one was started in October during our last holidays.

We had so many hours in the car that I also managed to complete D12 Crossed Swords
And ...

1296 squares from Espritpatch

That's exactly that! 1296 squares each 1.5' in size. And these 1296 squares have been arranged in a quilt top! A Hello Kitty quilt top to be more precise! This is my second one from a pattern by Sukie (I don't think her blog is still available)

I made the first one for my daughter in 2016 and parked the rest of the squares until earlier this month. Mainly because I didn't want to makea second identical quilt soon after three first one and mainly because I needed to cut the blue squares for the border ...

Digging deep in the UFO box from Espritpatch

When I made the Hello Kitty quilt for my daughter 3 years ago, I cut squares for 2 quilts with the idea of making one for my niece.  Of course that never happened because there's not much fun making 2 identical quilts one after the other. adding to it that my niece wasn't so much into Hello Kitty after all, motivation was quite low. So I parked my box of little squares for later.... and that later finally arrived last weekend, when I got the box out and started cutting out the missing blue pieces

I started ploughing ...

Little blocks from Espritpatch

It feels like it has been forever since I made some patchwork blocks so this week I tried to catch up on the Vintage Kitchen blocks.

I made the wooden spoon and the star

the heart
the measuring cups
the fork and the spatula
I am not quite there yet, I still need the house and the canisters but not far back now. It was quite fun to complete about once block every night.

6 little blocks for October so far!
