H+H Americas Recap 2024 from Patchwork Posse

A few highlights of the year are attending markets for the industry. They are closed to the public and for wholesale market and buying.

I have attended Quilt Market for years… and last year had an opportunity to attend H+H Americas. I had such a great time that I returned this year. It is my all time favorite show and have plans to not miss them in the future if I can help it!

Let’s take a look at what I saw, who I met up with and a few new products and beautiful displays.

The War of Resistance from Nina Paley

“Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.”

In George Orwell’s 1984, the past is altered, but war is constant; the names of the combatants are changed retroactively, but combat is continuous.

Members of nations at war bond more tightly with their compatriots. War offers a shared dream of triumph over a common enemy. Thus, continual state of war is an effective means of social control. It doesn’t really matter who Oceania is at war with, as long as Oceania is, and always has been, at war.

1984 illustrates how supporting wars is a sucker’s game. War ...

Scrappy Quilts for the Win from Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals!

Another long pause from me -- I'm thinking I might be about finished with my blogging career if that's what its been?  I've always created my posts with a goal to teach or share something useful to other quilt makers but having stepped largely away from the more active part of the quilting world, I have few ideas to share that seem new to me.  I feel like I've said everything I can about finishing projects and working with scraps and using tools effectively and staying true to your own creative energy.

The current "sewing with scraps ...

{I've Been Reading} The Deepest Lake from Michelle's Romantic Tangle

I've lost track of how many thrillers I've read where a family member travels to an isolated retreat to uncover what really happened to a loved one. It's a common plotline and one that I tend to enjoy. The Deepest Lake is one of the best. By the time that Rose applies for the memoir writing retreat under her maiden name, she's already done everything she could to find out what really happened to her daughter. There was a police investigation. She hired a private investigator. Chapters alternate between Rose's search for information and Jules ...

Fountain Square Park from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! It's our last morning in Bowling Green. When we get ourselves around, we'll continue on a journey to our eastern-most stop this trip at Georgetown, Kentucky. It's just a little bit north of Lexington, and about a three-hour drive. We don't have much planned for the area except to visit a horse ranch. We want to see the thoroughbreds. We're told it's foaling season, and so we should see some young foals.

Backing up to our day yesterday, I spent some time on my embroidery, finishing off the roof and ...

Continuing in the Covenant from From the Strawberry Patch...

On January 9, 2011, Gregory was baptized by his maternal grandfather. Here they are again: 13 years and four months later, at that same baptismal font. He, along with thirteen others, made public affirmation of that baptism yesterday; at his confirmation. We were blessed to witness this and are so very proud of this young man for his commitment and his hard work.

Weekly update: an OMG decision + reading from With Strings Attached

A quick walk around Sand Pond on Saturday afternoon.

The egret was quite close--guarding a nest, perhaps?  Upper: sand cherry  (a bush). Lower: crabapple (obviously a tree); mullein.

We enjoyed A Flor de Piel who performed for the final Lake County Community Concert of the season.   The young singer (center) is only a senior in high school -- what a voice!  Their parents (left and right) are music educators in Chicago.

Beads Quilt from Tamarack Shack

Cathy brought this lovely king sized Beads Quilt, pattern by Jordan Fabrics.  She added the pieced side borders to make it wider which was a nice touch.

I quilted it with the Modernish pantograph, used a grey purple So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

quilt monday from Quilt Nut Creations

With being in eight(!!) quilt shows this year, I've been working hard behind the scenes to make new store samples.

This quilt I've now made a few times(one was a Christmas version). This version came about as I as moving some fabrics around and inspiration struck.

quilted with Contempo

This is the Bird's Hill quilt by The Blanket Statement. I was inspired by the Kona's. These are the Kona colour of the year fabrics for 2021, 2022 and 2023 and I think they work perfectly together.

It's funny how in the pictures you can ...

A Bit of Stitching from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

I have a lot of catching up to do. When I last stitched on And God Saw, Markup told me it would be completed July 17 if I kept up at the same rate of stitching. A few days of very little stitching and when I picked it up yesterday, Markup said it would be...

How Does My Garden Grow? from Allen Quilts

It has been a very busy past few days. We had some bad weather threats on Wednesday, and ended up with several people sheltering with us in our basement during two separate tornado warnings that were issued. Thankfully, all turned out well here. My husband went on his days off Thursday thru Sunday. Thursday, our… Continue reading How Does My Garden Grow?

It’s Double Nickel Day!! from Lisa H Calle's Blog

I have now been 126 days alcohol-free. I continue to feel great about this decision in my life and wanted to share with you what I think is the number one benefit. There are many benefits but I think clarity is the one that I love the most.

Eliminating alcohol has given me clarity in work, friendships, and family.

I have thought about lowering the price of my membership, QG Creative Design Society for some time. I knew that I wanted to make it more affordable for everyone and that it wasn’t at the current price. The task of ...

Some Personal Sewing from Alamosa Quilter

I don't get much time for personal sewing these days. As a shop owner, most of my sewing time is spent on store samples and class samples. One of my nieces is getting married soon and she asked me to make some little duffle bags for her to give to her bridesmaids. So all last week, in between my regular shop duties, I made 7 duffle bags for her.
