Applique sampler from Stitching Matters

I do not get sampler quilts very often but they do remain my absolute favourite to quilt for the simple reason that I don’t have to repeat one quilting motif in several blocks to give the quilt a uniform feeling.  With a sampler, such as this applique quilt, I can go bonkers and do something different in every block.  I just loved working on this one.

I only took photos of some of the blocks to try and show the fun I had.

Marie Antoinette from Humble Quilts

I have been intrigued with this French General panel of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France, since I've seen it.
I finally just purchased it.

I have no plan at this time, it was just charming and quirky and I had to have it!!

June Tailor Quilt as you Go Sophie Bag Pattern from Patchwork Posse

Did you know that June Tailor quilt as you go patterns are a perfect place to explore the technique?

I was able to sew up the Sophie Bag Pattern and it really turned out super cute!

The batting that is included has all the lines you need to cut and follow when sewing it up. No need to think, measure or mess up while sewing. It’s ready to go and that makes the Sophie Bag Pattern a great one to start for any level of quilter.

Just Hand Stitching from Life In Pieces

It's been a couple of weeks since I've posted a Monday post on just stitching stuff.  The eclipse trip, along with prep and recover from knee surgery has limited my sewing room time.  So my stitching efforts have been focused on my long term travel project.  My goal was one full thread of stitching time each day while we were on the road. The first top wing of the butterfly was finished off last week.

Since I had to go off my anti-inflammatory before surgery, it was really uncomfortable to manage the stairs, so I kept to the ...

Charity Quilting from Becca's Crazy Projects

Sometimes I get quilts from Quilts for Kids that don't have a name on the label. I love that people give of their time and skill to create for others.
Both of these are quilted and will be headed to Annapolis Quilts for Kids

If you want to contribute but don't have the time or skills, you can support the national Quilts for Kids by going directly to their website and clicking DONATEI don't earn anything from this link.

If you want to support me indirectly, I do include Amazon affiliate links to products I use ...

4″ Squares Quilt: Tipi from Wedding Dress Blue

This is another of the charity quilt kits Sparkle Jane and I created several years ago. One of my goals this year is to get them all put together and delivered to people who can use them.

The colors scheme came from the tipi print–too cute! Some colors are all the same, and some are mixed scraps. Works for me!

There is nothing wrong with simple quilts. They have their own appeal.

Design Wall Monday - April 22 from My Sewing Room

Another week! Yikes, this month is just flying by!!

I'm using my "back-up" sewing machine for the near future as my main machine is heading to the repair shop.  It needed a good cleaning and tune up, but when it began to make a weird little noise I knew it was time to stop putting it off.  Sigh - I miss some of the features that aren't on my back-up, but I'm thankful that I actually have a back-up to use.

So, what's on my design wall this week?  I need to finish my bigger strawberry block ...

Green Tea and Sweet Beans is DONE!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I am dangerous around a computer. I know enough to get around and potentially get into trouble, yet not enough to solve problems.

My computer has gotten sluggish again, and yes, when I checked, my email had grown to 106 GB from 104 GB, and I'm down to less than 45 GB free on the C drive. How is this happening?

On top of that, when I went to download a document the other day, it did silly things to my setup. It was not a virus, but it installed a different web browser, and I was struggling to ...

I'm inspired from Happy Cottage Quilter

Isn't it fun to visit quilt shops? Inspire is the largest quilt shop in our area. Since the pandemic, most of the quilt shops have closed. And two more are slated to close soon. Inspire will be moving. The owner has sold the building and is retiring. But I was told they have a new location and will be moving in the summer.  Of course they are having sales so they won't have to move ALL the fabric.

Always lots of inspiration.

And a peek through the glass

Design Wall Monday - April 22, 2024 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

 Good Morning Quilters!

Last week I started a tutorial on how I made my fabric baskets, and didn’t get very far into my instructions before I had to stop to get to bed.  I told you I’d continue the instructions this week.  Well, writing instructions are a lot of work, and after looking at some youtube videos, I decided to direct you to some good instructions there - and not try to reinvent the wheel.  One video that I really liked was (Here)

The basic concepts are the same, no matter the measurements.  I started by making a “turning ...

Road Trip from Lovin' Life At The End Of The Dirt Road

Last week DH and I took a roadtrip and drove 600 miles to check on our cows. Then we drove 600 miles back. Lots of miles for a couple of old folks. We left on Monday and got back on Thursday. The new camp man started last week and it'll be a while before he gets his feet on the ground, but other than a few phone calls about water troubles, he held down the fort. Another phone call

What I’m Working On… from Jo's Country Junction

I was gone all day Saturday but still managed to get some sewing in this week. I worked on my Tiny Nine Patch blocks. It looks like I got 25 finished. I got another batch started for next week. I also got my coin quilt bound. Notice the picture on the right. I pulled the …

Pineapples. campers, April zoom and weekend crazies from Dreamworthy Quilts

It was an eventful weekend in both good and bad ways.  Let's start with the good...

My husband was gone all weekend which meant uninterrupted sewing time.  My pineapple top (Chookshed Challenge for this month) is done.  Now to piece the back.

I made my Aussie Baradine row - well all but one more Moda Love block which is cut and ready to sew.  Two campers are done, well... were done.  I need to fix the tongue on the trailer because it looks like my tire is stuck in the mud or something.  All I need to do is lengthen ...

Movie Day from Quilting My Way

This morning Patrick slept in. I was playing my games.

Decided I wanted to play on my puzzle today and got some done before it was time to leave.

We decided to go to the movies. I wanted to see the new Panda movie. It was at 1:30 pm. At first I thought we would be the only ones watching it but a family of 5 showed up as well. It was really good. The graphics were better than that one previously. I enjoyed the movie and knew the voices of at least 4 of them.

Then we walked ...

Decades of Decibels from Dueling Threads

Who’s your favorite uncle?

It isn’t often that you get a call, and you immediately know the caller wants something, BUT, that whatever they are going to ask of you might actually be fun, so you let them talk you into a “Yes”. In this case, I became immersed in my first full T-Shirt quilt that I have dubbed “Decades of Decibels”.

I can’t claim design inspiration on this one as my uncle knew what he wanted. He had taken time to inventory and visually lay out the shirts he had collected from rock concerts over the ...

Coco Chameleon - A Funky Friends Factory Pattern from Quilted Delights

This month, Island Batik Ambassadors have been playing with stuffed animals!

We each chose one of the Funky Friends Factory patterns and used Island Batik fabric to create one-of-a-kind stuffed animals.

I chose Coco Chameleon.

For the top of the head and belly, I couldn't resist using an Island Batik foundation print called Chameleon.

For the rest of the body, I pulled some leftover prints from last year's Summer Twilight collection, an original Island Batik collection by Tammy Silvers (Tamarinis).

Coco went together without any issues.

The pattern has several tips to help prevent sewing pieces together backward ...

Spoiler Alert: DUNE 2 from Nina Paley

Timmy and Johnny on Arrakis

If I recall correctly (from a few hours ago, I just got home) DUNE 2 starts with a recap of DUNE 1 from a pretty posh lady recording her diary on another planet. Looks like a pile of dead bodies is getting set fire to on Arrakis. I remember the name Arrakis from reading the books 40+ years ago but really not much else, and I didn’t see DUNE 1 so I’m relying on the filmmakers to catch me up.

On a sandy duneside, Paul Atrides aka Timothee Chalamet wakes up with the ...

Comments! from JulieKQuilts

A large tree fell over with a mighty crash, half a block from our home.  We are all grateful that it fell toward the street!  If you can zoom in, you can see the little people on the left side of the picture. The homeowner is actually one of my heart patients, for years now.   We have had a lot of rain, which loosened the ground around the tree...and we saw very little root system supporting this gigantic oak.

Lucky is helping me today, with dusting and playing with the chandelier.  He is so much fun!!  He is up ...
