To Do Tuesday for the Week of November 1, 2022 from Life In Pieces

Happy All Saints Day or if you are of Hispanic heritage, Happy Day of the Dead. How can it be November already?  Just 8 weeks till 2023?  No I'm not ready, at all!

I'm a little better prepared to discuss last week's To Do List. It's Tuesday so it's time to link up with Texas Quilt Gal for To Do Tuesday.  I'm happy with my progress on last week's list.

To Do List for the Week of 10/25/2022

1. Unity: Prep backing for quilting - no progress
2. Macaron Mystery: Continue adding ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 10/25/22 from Life In Pieces

Life was very crazy yesterday and I just didn't have a chance to post my To Do list for this week. Thankfully things have calmed down significantly today, so I'm hoping to get this post drafted.  Last week went pretty well.

To Do List for Week of 10/18/2022

1. Unity: prep backing for quilting - no progress
2. Macaron Mystery: continue adding borders ✔
3. Melodic Mystery: Work on clues 1 and 2
4. Grocery sack: continue assembly
5. Rhododendron Mystery: assemble blocks as leaders enders

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 10/18/2022 from Life In Pieces

Stitching time was a bit limited last week, but luckily the To Do List was pretty easy.

To Do List for 10/11/2022

1. Unity: Finish assembling backing ✔
2. Macaron Mystery: Continue adding borders
3. Melodic Mystery: Cut fabrics, start on clues 1 and 2

Three out of three is a good week. My goal for the rest of the year is to just make progress on a few active projects.  No pressure, no firm deadlines.  As long as things are progressing, I'm going to be happy.

The list this week is longer, but still focused on making ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 10/11/2022 from Life In Pieces

Last week was busy, between Mom's birthday party and Grad Girl's visit.  Grad Girl has to head back to Texas this morning, but we had a chance to just hang out together yesterday.  All the family activities cut into my stitching time, but I still made progress on the To Do List.

To Do List for 10/3/2022

1. Finish the last 2 grocery sacks ✔

2. Start on Melodic Mystery - progress

3. Continue assembling backing for Unity

Two out of three with progress on the third is still a good week. The goal is progress and that ...

A Bit of This and That from Life In Pieces

It was a busy weekend. My Mom celebrates her 80th birthday this week, so we had a party for her on Sunday.  It was especially nice since Grad Girl was able to come home for it. So mom had all her kids and grandkids there. Thankfully she was feeling better after a rough week and we all had a great time.

Since the weekend was spent with family, there wasn't a lot of stitching time this weekend, but there was a bit of progress in the sewing room during the weekdays.  All the pieces needed for Unity are cut ...

To Do Tuesday for the week of 10/4/22 from Life In Pieces

It was a good week on the stitching front. It's been a long time since I've had one of those. my To Do List wasn't very challenging, but it did help get me back into the sewing room this week.

To Do List for 9/27/22

1. Finish 2 Grocery Sacks ✔

2. Pull fabrics for Melodic Mystery

3. Finish backing for Unity - progress

Two completed with progress on the third is a really good week. Especially for my first To Do List in almost three months. So what's the plan for this week?

To Do ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 9/27/2022 from Life In Pieces

It's been months since I last did a To Do Tuesday post and linked up with Texas Quilt Gal.  Getting back to the sewing room for my 15 minutes a day is still a struggle for me. I'm out of the habit and it's just so easy to get side tracked with other things at the moment. Hopefully writing down a few To Do's will be a good motivator.

To Do List for 9/27/2022

1.  Finish 2 grocery bags

Grad Girl's move to Texas back in August left her short a grocery bag ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 6/7/2022 from Life In Pieces

The schedule has been mostly back to normal the last week. There have been a couple of late nights, not all because of my schedule. Even so, I've had a lot more time in the sewing room the last week than I was getting in April and May. That positively impacts the progress on the To Do List.

To Do List for 5/31/2022

  • Unity: Press backing fabric, decide how to assemble - progress
  • Macaron Mystery: Start on first border ✔
  • Rhododendron: Make hourglass blocks as leaders and enders ✔
Two check marks and progress on the third, that's a ...

June One Monthly Goal from Life In Pieces

Success with my One Monthly Goal hasn't been the best the last couple of months.  I didn't finish my April OMG and didn't have time to post one for May.  I'm hoping to get back on track with the June One Monthly Goal.

The goal for this month is to get Unity sent out for quilting.

Unity: The 2020 Bonnie Hunter Quilt in Place Quilt Along

The borders were finished in early May, but I've not had big blocks of time to press out the backing.

Then decide how to piece the back plus prep ...

PHD in 2022: April and May Progress from Life In Pieces

My work/life balance has been anything but balanced the last couple of months. Hopefully balance will be restored after yesterday.  I turned in the last review summary for the never ending project yesterday at 7 PM.  So hopefully that means I'll have more time for stitching in June.  I've been playing along with Quilting Gail's PHD program for 2022, but didn't have an opportunity to post in April. Here's where my projects stand as of the end of May.

There was one finish and no starts during the last two months.  Not a bad ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 5/31/2022 from Life In Pieces

It was nice to have a three day weekend, it just went really fast.  I was able to spend most of Monday afternoon in the sewing room. It was nice.  My last To Do List was posted two weeks ago, so I've had ample time to make some progress on it.

To Do List for 5/17/2022

  • Macaron Mystery: Continue assembling rows ✔
  • Rhododendron Mystery: Make hourglass blocks as leaders and enders
I kept the goals simple to accommodate what was already a busy schedule even without the never ending project. I'm good with the simple, my goal ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 4/5/2022 from Life In Pieces

I've been keeping my To Do Lists simple and short recently.  That seems to be working well for me, just enough items to keep me on track and not so much that I feel frustrated when my week goes wonky and my sewing time disappears.  Last week was a good week in the sewing room.

  • Unity: Add final border ✔
  • Macaron Mystery: Make last block B, cut setting triangles ✔
  • Rhododendron: Work on clue 5, hourglass blocks as leaders/enders ✔

Three for three is a good week, especially when one of those check marks means that Unity is a finished quilt ...

Not Quite the End of Unity from Life In Pieces

Saturday was pretty much a nothing but sewing day. A treat to myself since I may not get another chance to do that till May.  Sunday was laundry and taxes. (Is there a worse combination of chores?)  But those chores were finished early enough that I was still able to work in a few hours of stitching in the afternoon.

The goal on Saturday was to finish adding the borders to Unity.

Unity: Bonnie Hunter 2020 Sew in Place Quilt Along

I'm happy with how this project worked out.  My version differs from Bonnie's original instructions in a ...

PHD in 2022: March Progress from Life In Pieces

The first quarter of 2022 is done.  That was fast, or at least it seemed that way.  I'm definitely ready for spring.  Mother Nature ended March with a pre-April Fool's Day prank. We had snow flurries yesterday!  I had to drag my winter coat out of the closet.  It really felt more like January than it did the day before April 1st.

Now that March is over, it's time to assess how much progress I've made towards my PHD in 2022.

There's been no new finishes this month, so my PHD report looks the same ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of March 29, 2022 from Life In Pieces

This is my 115th (ish) weekly To Do List. I'm not a list person, or at least I didn't think I was. What started off as an experiment over 2 years ago has become just how I organize my sewing week. Have I finished more projects? Probably not, but I feel more productive. That has to count for something, right?

Last week's list was pretty short.

To Do List for 3/22/2022
  • Unity: Fix puffy areas, start on next border ✔
  • Macaron Mystery: Make blocks ✔
  • Rhododendron Mystery: Hourglass blocks as leaders/enders ✔

Three for three is a ...

More Unity from Life In Pieces

It's the last Monday in March, so we almost a third of the way into 2022.  It's warming up, but it's still pretty cool in the mornings.  My allergies have definitely let me know it's spring.  I just have to remember to take some sinus medicine if I'm going to be outside for long.

I did get in some good stitching time this weekend.  I always forget how long it takes to add borders.

With all the seams in the last pieced border, there's a lot of pinning to keep the Unity seam allowances ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of March 22, 2022 from Life In Pieces

Monday's after almost a week out of the office are always hard.  It's too bad that Friday is so far away this week. It's only Tuesday, but that means it's time to look back at last week's To Do List and make a list for this week.

To Do Tuesday for 3/15/2022

  • Potions: Package and send out for quilting
  • Unity: Finish last pieced border, attach, start next border - progress
  • Macaron Mystery: Work on blocks
  • Rhododendron: Make hourglass blocks as leaders/enders

Following the Quilt Plan from Life In Pieces

Sadly, spring break is over.  It's back to work for me this week.  The Scientist in Training is back at college. We both had a good week of hanging out and spending time in the sewing room.  She finished two embroidery projects and I got Potions sent out for quilting.  Cabins and Fans (Fluorescence) and Potions have been my focus projects since December.  With Potions out for quilting, it's time to refocus and identify the next project to move towards completion.

Unity is the next quilt on my 2022 quilting plan.  I finished and attached the last pieced ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of March 15, 2022 from Life In Pieces

Thankfully the last week has been much calmer. My Guy is healing well. His neck still bothers him quite a bit, but the lacerations on his face have healed and the swelling has mostly gone down.  He's going back to work today.  I'm off this week (except for Thursday). The Scientist in Training is home this week for Spring Break. She's been my partner in the sewing room the last few days. We've both made a lot of progress on our projects the last couple of days.  My To Do List for last week is all ...

To Do Tuesday for Week of 3/8/2022 from Life In Pieces

Last week was one of the least fun weeks I've had in a long time.  Two people in my group announced they are leaving due to spouse relocations. We are under a hiring freeze right now, so you can see where that's going.   If you read my Sunday post you know My Guy had a nasty bicycle accident Saturday morning. He's doing OK, but boy does he look beat up.  He was released from the hospital late Sunday afternoon, but we were back at the doctor's office yesterday since he developed a fever overnight. He will ...
