I've gotten sidetracked by a few things, but my June goal is slowly getting there. I was nearly finished appliqueing some blue star blocks when I decided to make it my June goal to turn them into a donation quilt. I started making nine-patches for the alternate blocks, but got tired of that, so I ended up making a second kind, too. Then somewhere along the way I realized I was using two different shades of gray. It's a scrappy quilt, though, right?
I had as my May one monthly goal, an older ufo. I have no idea how to finish this little quilt. I have procrastinated and procrastinated. That is why I am making it my one monthly goal or I will never see this finished.
Maybe now that the thread is cut and the needle is threaded I can make a little progress on it ...

Every time I think about it, the sun wasn't in the right place, or the wind was all wrong for me to do it. I have been waiting for the perfect conditions and they aren't going to happen. I started this English paper piecing project on an airplane going to and from visiting my daughter. It has been awhile.

Hi everyone, and happy last weekend of January! Didn't we just start January? Holy cow, I just don't know where the time goes. All I know is that it is never long enough when I'm trying to sleep, or when I'm trying to work on something really important with a deadline. Maybe the deadlines are why I can't sleep. What do you think?
I was given some stamped quilt blocks to embroider, and I decided to make a baby quilt with them.
Really bad picture, sorry! 46" x 60" |
There were twelve baby animal blocks . . .

By adding triangles to the sashing ends and including cornerstones, I formed a star at each of the corners of the embroidered blocks.
I finished it with a striped binding.
The quilt went together quickly--the embroidery took longer than the construction!
It looks terribly wrinkled in these photos, but after washing, it is much smoother. I put this one away for ...

Got the Christmas Stars quilt into the hoop. Finally! I've been running so far behind on where the quilt line-up 'should be' this year that I just wanna shake my head. Not making a lot of progress on plowing through the completed quilt tops 'cuz I'm too busy making new.

In 1820 – for the very first time – thread was sold on spools. (Before that, it was skeins or hanks. Can you imagine the tangles?!)
The spools were made by a local woodturner, and the thread was wound by hand at the Clark Brothers’ factory in Paisley, Scotland. Like old fashioned soda bottles, these wooden spools came with an extra half-penny charge that was refunded when the empty spool was returned to the shop. My, how times have changed!
This week, Jenny is whipping up a homage to the magnificent spool with a brand new jelly roll quilt.

read more Hi everyone! Well, we made it through the first week of school and here we are, suddenly a few days into September. 2021 is now in its last quarter. Yikes! And right on schedule, we had a huge storm and the temperatures and humidity dropped lower than they have been in ages. It feels great out there today. Plus, I'm happy to report really good compliance on mask-wearing and distancing from my students so far. Hurray!
