My little heifer, Sugar, is doing well.
read moreHello everyone! Welcome to my blog, High Road Quilter. It is my day to post my progress on my Pinwheel Quilt as a part of a blog hop hosted by Carol Swift.
I finished the custom quilting on my client’s Convex Illusions quilt and she is coming to pic it up today. It’s a gift for her one of her grandsons. This was a really cool one to work on. I had a lot of fun watching it change throughout the quilting process.

Finally, the weather seems to be warming up and I hope it stays that way. I need to get some plants for the veranda and move the ones from the Carolina room to the front. I am in a mood for fresh lemons both in cooking and in decorating. So, let’s take a stroll through some past posts to bring together springtime and lemons! First up, a Lemon Tablescape. I still have the lemon salad plates, and the melamine platter, but the little lemon bread plates and yellow cutwork chargers have been donated back to the thrift store. See ...
read moreI mentioned a few days ago that I would have some exciting news to share soon regarding a client quilt. Every year, the Ogallala Quilters Society hosts the Ogallala Quilt Festival in Dimmitt, TX. It’s a prestigious show and I have some clients that enter something every year. This year one of the quilts I… Continue reading A Blue Ribbon!
read moreNo, I’m not talking about the football team. Last night was what I consider my first night out since not drinking (I’m not counting going out to dinner). My brother, sister-in-law, and sister went to an interesting Cuban restaurant. I had thought that the food would be spicy, but two of the dishes were quite bland. Mine was delicious; it was kind of like a shrimp scampi.
We then saw an Eagles cover band, which was so much fun. I haven’t been to a concert in a while, and definitely my first with no alcohol. It was ...
read moreI have been teaching quilting since MQX in 2006. I quickly realized that I absolutely love to teach and so I never looked back. When the pandemic hit, it hit hard. Our industry was forever changed. I had to pivot to online classes and in the process learn a bunch of new technology.
Quilter’s Groove Design Academy is my signature class; it is 10 weeks of design “training.” I break down how to design the quilting for your tops week by week. Many students say they never look at a quilt top the same way again. This makes my ...
read moreThought I would share pics of the quilt I made for my great-nephew before and after washing. I love the post wash quilty crinkle glow up. What about you? Do you love battings that give that crinkle, or do you prefer the less crinkle. To me, the crinkle is part of what makes a quilt… Continue reading The Crinkle
read moreI meant to write this yesterday, but I was traveling to my brother’s house in Florida with my sister. We are here for some excellent family time.
Yesterday was 100 days with no alcohol! I know some of you might be thinking, what’s the big deal? While I am not an alcoholic, I definitely had an unhealthy relationship with alcohol. I have social anxiety, and believe me …. it is much easier for me to be in a room full of people after I’ve had a drink. This is not a good way to live. I would rather ...

As the words spill from my brain to fingers breaking the silence of this last season the desire fills my being to write more, quilt again. read moreMy grand parents had a smallish cherry tree in the corner of their garden and every Spring it would ‘dress itself in a pink fluffy ballgown’ and it would sprinkle pink leaves with every little breeze. I loved that tree and I told myself that I wanted one of those in my garden when I grew up. I haven’t made that come true yet, but there are plenty of other brightly colored flowers, bushes and trees in my garden. I can’t resist a bright bloom!
read moreThis past week, my quilting attention went mostly to this lovely Optical Illusions quilt that I am quilting for a client. She made it for her 16 year old grandson. I felt a little intimidated by it at first, but this has actually turned out to be so much fun to work on. The center… Continue reading Sunday Funday Catching Up
read moreThis quilt started as an experiment with fat quarters. I had seen a few similar quilts and wanted to give it a try.
This version uses 9 fat quarters. Three prints and 6 solids. The quilt finishes at 40″ x 48″. Each block has a center cut at 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″, some plain squares, and some created as hourglass blocks made of two squares starting at 5-1/2″ x 5-1/2″. The outside of the blocks is two rectangles 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ and two rectangles 2-1/2″ x 8-1/2″.
It went together quickly and is ...

read moreIt’s hard to believe Quilter’s Groove TRIBE will be three years old in June! It has been fun, frustrating, and rewarding all at once! The pandemic sure did a number on our quilting industry. As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I got a divorce in 2019, and in 2020, I was scheduled to have my most profitable year yet. I was set to travel almost every other week, so I would travel the weeks I did not have Brody (my youngest son). Then, in March 2020, life, as we all knew it, came to a screeching ...

I had a lot of fabric ‘in’ this month. Spending gift certificates and winning a prize pushed the total up higher than it would have been otherwise. Leading off, my fourth place win in the National Quilting Day challenge came with a jelly roll, fabric in = 3 yards.
Spending a gift certificate at our local shop, Beginnings, I came home with two yards of cute ...
read moreIt has been a hot minute since I’ve blogged consistently so I figure it’s like starting over now. My blog was primarily about quilting and while I have a lot to say on that subject, my life is quite different now so I figure my blog will be a bit different as well. So if you are looking for solely quilting… this may not be the blog for you. I will also bring you on my journey of (for lack of a better word) “enlightenment”. I apologize that this may not be linear.
I started my quilting business ...
