Cabin Fever Quilting 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 from Virtual Quilter

The first two designs this week are exactly the same …

… except for the quilting. I like the middle of the first, but like the way the quilting emphasizes the diagonal border effect.

I like the centre of the third one as well.

Another middle bit to add to my list of favourites!

I love the way that most of the quilting is simply lines following the seam lines, though I would put that line just to one side of the pieced line, with a few curly lines to make use of the light parts of the Log Cabin blocks.

This ...

Love the first design for today.

The second one is interesting … and I rather like it!

Virtual Wholecloth Quilt 6, 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

I use a lot of background quilting on applique and pieced blocks to fill in spaces around the design, but I also often use plain background for some blocks, and those are quilted with the lines of applique designs.

The cross hatching in these designs is what I use as a filler around applique, but I have left out the applique and only quilted the lines of the applique designs.

This is what the back of an applique quilt would look like, and as I love looking at the backs of quilts why not forget the applique and pieced tops ...

Anita’s Q’n’A 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Lovely!

The first one is lovely, the second one is absolutely beautiful, in my never humble opinion.

A Whiter Shade on Gold Quilted 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

The hardest part of making a quilt with applique designs ‘whited out’ would be choosing the background colour, then finding a collection of fabrics for the very low contrast in the appliques.

My favourite of these two is the second!

Kelly’s Custom Quilts 17 from Virtual Quilter

The designs today are each based on two different pieced block designs made up of squares and rectangles.

I like the second one best … though after another coffee I may change my mind.

Quilted Border Beauties 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

I like it, though I will point out that the gold bits, except the sleeping cat, are meant to look like quilting motifs.

Interesting. The gold quilting still looks more like applique, but there is some purple which looks like hand quilting! Will have to do some experiments to see what I can do to make it work out the way I want it too.

In the meantime, my favourite of these two is the second one.

A Spoonful of Sugar 3, 4 from Virtual Quilter

I don’t like this design, but I do love it!

This project file is simply a recolouring of the Lovin’ Spoonful blocks, along with a few blocks getting modified slightly.

Love the second one even more!

Fiddlebobs OP 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

I like it, though maybe a bit busy.

There should always be some spaces for the quilting to shine!

Love the second.

Not only space for some quilting, but some designs have been added.

Gran’s New Beads 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

Love it.

In this project file I am playing with beads of different shapes and sizes, then using the blocks as both applique blocks and quilting motifs. The first design uses a lot more quilted than applique beads.

The second design makes uses of lots of identical blocks with just one focal block, but there is more variation in the quilting motifs.

Ann’s Album Q ‘n’ A 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first design, inparticular, I love the sashing … where it is visible.

Where it doesn’t show up I have coloured the sashing strips with the background fabric.

I like the second one too.

Lovin’ Spoonful 49, 50 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first design I am sharing today.

Love the second one more … still hard to believe all these designs are inspired by an engraving on an antique spoon!

Autumn Daze Quilting 21 from Virtual Quilter

Another Aussie autumn coloured quilt … crop stubble in paddocks, dull green tree foliage covered in dust, blue skies, and in real life I can feel the cooler breezes.

Not too sure which one I like the most, maybe the second if I added another solid border, but not too wide.

Annie Clover Curved Illusions 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

I would be sleeping under the first design, though maybe lighten up the colours a little.

Like the way the outer border twists around the corners.

I love the last applique border … specifically that little bump in the middle of each side.

Dear, Dear it’s Quilted 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

Smaller blocks means lots more piecing, but a lot of scope for playing with blocks to create interesting designs.

Also adds more variety to the quilting motifs based on the blocks.
