Garden Star Four Quilt Pattern from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

I love color!!  I have had a few different favorites throughout my life.  Hunter green.  Purple.  Teal.  Pink.  With each color I fall in love with I simply add it to my pallet, still loving all the colors that came before it.  When I was in college (and many years after it) I went through a purple phase.  Purple was the color in my wedding.  I had deep purple calla lilies and light purple bridesmaid dresses.  I made all the centerpieces for all of the tables.  They started out clear glass vases from Joann’s.  I cut and glued skinny ...

What To Do? from Wedding Dress Blue

Some time ago I was gifted a complete kit with pattern of the Safe Haven Quilt by Thimbleberries. It wasn’t exactly my typical style, but I thought it would do me good to use an actual pattern, different color scheme, larger size pieces and a little applique.

So I made the blocks. And enjoyed it.

But, then I really looked at the setting and discovered I didn’t like it. It isn’t so bad in the pattern, but I have seen pictures of finished quilts on beds, and it isn’t for me. At all. I am sure ...

Award Quilt Block from Expect Moore

This month’s free quilt block theme is graduation. One of my favorite things about graduation was always the awards that were given out – highest score, most improved, achievements, athletics, and more. So I designed this award ribbon quilt block. You can use the negative space to the left of the ribbon to include the […]

Checkered Spy Quilt from Expect Moore

I love so many things about this quilt. It is simple to make. You can customize it to the favorite colors of the recipient. And it uses FUSSY CUTTING. Which is basically my favorite. This is the perfect time to go through your stash and justify all the adorable prints you’ve been collecting (not that […]

2-Cent Tuesday from IVORY SPRING

Hello Friends, I hope your week got off a stupendous start! I am catching up on my rotations of quilt projects this week. Click HERE if you hadn’t read my two cents on UFOs.

I often receive questions about if fat quarters can be substituted for the yardages listed in my patterns. I often use FQs for my for-sale patterns when possible, mainly because I like that the use of FQs is an easy way to make a quilt look more scrappy. The other reason is that FQs are much easier to store than fabric yardages.

If you ever ...

The Bee's Knees Scrap Quilt Pattern! from Selvage Blog

Another scrap quilt and pattern done! See the pattern here: The Bee's Knees Quilt Pattern. I can't get used to writing "sawtooths." It feels like it should be "sawteeth," but that's not much better. It reminds me of driving through the Beartooth Mountains and seeing signs for "The Beartooths."

I like how the two sawtooth rows anchor the sea of scraps. This quilt is loaded with little surprises in the style of an "I Spy" quilt. There's food, seashells, digitally printed flowers (below) and lots more. I'm keeping a big box of rectangular scraps near ...

2-Cent Tuesday from IVORY SPRING

Hello Friends, I hope you are well! It’s time for my 2 cents AGAIN!

The quilt you see is actually a log-cabin-ish variation that is featured in the March/April 2021 issue of American Quilter magazine. My 2-cents today pertain to sewing narrow pieces like in log cabin blocks. Some would sew the strips onto paper because the paper stabilizes the blocks with narrow strips so that the blocks don’t go wonky. I don’t mind paper/foundation piecing, but I kind of mind having to rip the paper, and paper remnants end up being everywhere. So, for ...

This quilt features the classic bowtie block in a whimsical layout. It’s surprisingly easy to make because there are no Y-seams! See the new pattern here: Dance of the Bowties
