Nan’s Nine Patches 33, 34 from Virtual Quilter

Very, very interesting, but the middle looks a bit blank!

Not much in the middle, but it is better.

Stars on Ramsey Terrace 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Love it!

This project file uses 15 very similar star blocks and I love how the individual blocks link with each other in designs.

Love the second design too!

A Homespun Finish from Needle and Foot

This quilt has been in process for quite some time. I finished the quilt top last March. The piecing was quite fun – I used two different charm packs from Benartex that both had a vintage feel to them. After sewing a 2 1/2″ wide strip to the top of each one, I sliced the block in 1/2 and flipped one side upside down. That gave me the rectangular blocks you see here. To add some size to the quilt, I sashed between rows. Finally I added a deep purple border all the way around.

I knew I wanted ...

Beetaloo Logs 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from Virtual Quilter

Just Log Cabin blocks in this project file, no colour variations, but still plenty of ways to twist and turn them around.

So far all the designs I have in this project file are basically Barn Raising design with some twists.

Perhaps the builders raising these barns were doing a barn dance in their meal breaks!

I enjoy playing in Electric Quilt with basic blocks like these to see what can happen, but I don’t think I would enjoy making all the blocks!

That is all for this week’s mid week retreat, but there will be more Log ...

TNT Logs + 91, 92, 93, 94, 95 from Virtual Quilter

I love the first design today!

Not too wrapped in the second,…

… but change four blocks and I like it better.

Corners look tidier with less light .

Last design for today is interesting, so that is the lot for this week’s mid week mini retreat to look at some Log Cabin quilt designs.

More Log Cabin quilt designs mid week, next week.

Bundaleer Logs 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 plus Challenge from Virtual Quilter

How many ways can you arrange a collection of Log Cabin blocks with some traditional half light, half dark, some all dark, some all light?

As you can see by the numbers in the title, today’s selection from this project file the number will reach 35variations, which is about half way through the designs I have saved so far.

The Challenge part of the title today is usually reserved for a weekend, but I have been away and will be busy for the first two weekends of this month.

So this months your challenge is to play with Log ...

Dear, Dear it’s Quilted 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

Smaller blocks means lots more piecing, but a lot of scope for playing with blocks to create interesting designs.

Also adds more variety to the quilting motifs based on the blocks.

Cabin Fever Isolation Area 44, 45 from Virtual Quilter

A short retreat this mid week … I am up early to go to a quilt group meeting 2.5 hours away!

Love the second design … and I hope you all have an enjoyable day while I am away enjoying myself!

Finishing Up a Nice Week from Needle and Foot

Even though nothing extra special happened, this was a lovely week. I got to have a nice visit with my parents. We knew snow was coming so we got together before their driveway became difficult. (They live about fifteen miles from here but they are at a higher elevation. When they get some snow, it is usually a lot.)

My yard earlier this week.

We did get some snow but just a dusting and it only lasted a day. I do love when we get a little snow. When I woke up that morning and saw it was snowing, I ...

Logs on Point in Purple 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting …

… but more interesting to see what happens if the centre is modified …

… then modified again.

I like the last of the modifications.

Love the one above …

… and like the last one for this weeks mid week Log Cabin retreat.

And while you are taking time out from whatever you should be doing, here is something else to look at.

Stars on Ramsay Terrace Sampler, 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

Fifteen blocks, all slightly different, but I think they might work well together. I have added two joiner blocks which will come into use sometimes!

So here are the first new designs for 2021, and from a new project file.

I got this far, and had to add those joiner blocks.

Yes, that works for me, especially in the border!

Next task is to add some quilting motifs, based on the block designs!

EQ 9x9s at Christmas 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

Somehow the night sky has a green tinge, but the stars shine regardless of the sky colour.

Cabin Fever Christmas Edition 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 from Virtual Quilter

Those who live in the northern hemisphere will be needing all their quilts on the beds at the moment, but all we need Down Under are virtual quilts most nights during December, so the virtual mid week Log Cabin retreats will continue as usual.

Unusual red wreath in the centre, but I rather like it!

I think the one above is my favourite one in this week’s collection.

The thing I like most about these designs is that though they are tradition red white and green, they are not specifically Christmas themed, so they can be used all year ...

Star for Selina 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

The Star for Selina block is in full colour in the centre of the design above, and all the other blocks are the same block designs with some pieces left out. Look closely and you can see where the seam lines should be … I would use those lines as quilting lines.

I like stars on a dark background … after all, we cannot see stars during the day when the sun is shining.

Tangled Irish Chain Blues 35, 36 from Virtual Quilter

I should have used green for Irish, but Tangled Irish Chain Blues had a better ring to it … and I was trying to make myself use blue in my designs.

This is one of many of my project files nearing it’s use by date … which means I will have to create some new virtual quilt projects. I am going to have lots of fun!

Red and White in Reverse 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38 from Virtual Quilter

From red on white, to white on red …

… in three steps

But wait … there’s more.

I thought I would play a little longer to see what would happen, and liked what I found enough to share the results.

I like all of the last three … no one favourite today!

10 Plus Mods 6, 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first of today’s designs. It is just familiar blocks with colours arranged a bit differently to normal.

I like the second one as well. I have to admit that I would only ever use these colours for quilts to give away, but they work for me in these designs.

Another interesting one.

Cabin Fever 106, 107, 108, 109, 110 from Virtual Quilter

I should have visited this project file about a month ago! Let’s hope I don’t need to update it too often!

This project has an almost unlimited supply of Log Cabin blocks which have only one thing in common … they are squares constructed with a a few squares and plenty of strips!

I wonder how many designs are possible with so many block variations? I think I would eliminate those with blocks placed randomly to limit the number to one which would fit written down around a football oval in small numerals.

I like the one above.

However ...
