Pinterest Board for Miss Myrtle from Tink Squared

For all of you fans of the Divine Miss M, she now has her own Pinterest board. Anything she poses for will be added there. I was a bit surprised when she made the request, and you know what she told me? “I’m famous! I can have a cult following and people all over the world will love me!”

Hmmm… I am but her obedient slave.

The more I work with Spelt, the more I see why it has such a following. While Einkorn is my favorite for taste, Spelt is sooo much easier to work with. Yesterday I ...

Forgetful Friday from Becca's Crazy Projects

Sadly, I don't have much to share today. It seems I forgot to take photos of my projects or write a blog post in advance.
I've been planning a new crochet project.
The daffodils are up in my front garden.
I went for a walk with my dog.
Make that two types of daffodil.

Happy Friday! Make something that makes you happy. I think of it as making happiness.

Has Anyone Seen Miss Myrtle? from Tink Squared

She appears to have gone missing. I guess I better ask Siri cat to hunt for her. Cat’s track down mice and bring them to you right?

I had plans to get more of the weed whacking done yesterday, but the morning was drizzly and cold, with a bitter wind. It was all I could do to talk myself into a walk after lunch, but I’m so glad I did as while I started out with my winter coat and gloves on, I was able to remove them halfway through my six mile walk.

The clouds blew off ...

I Heard From my Cousin Lou! from Tink Squared

For those of you that know what I’m talking about, I finally got a letter from him. He smashed his hand in a door and is having difficulty writing. But he was thrilled to get so many cards! Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for sending them. He said the letters bring some joy into a bleak situation.

I had another productive morning. I mucked out the chicken coop bright and early and replace the bedding in it, then did something I will probably regret, I spread the manure/peat moss/pine shaving litter over one ...

A Very Busy Day! from Tink Squared

Lately I can’t get enough of this bread. It’s sourdough with rye and spelt and full of flaked grains and seeds.

I mill my own grains, but I also flake them using my FlicFloc. It’s a bit tedious as it’s a hand crank model, but the flavor difference is oh so worth it!

My mix varies all the time. This particular batch began with emmer wheat berries, rye berries, white wheat berries, amaranth, tri-color quinoa, teff and barley, which I added to a jar and tossed in a bit of water. I use about a tablespoon ...

The Perfect Day! from Tink Squared

Yesterday couldn’t have been more fabulous. A gorgeous seventy degree day, with big fluffy clouds in the sky, and a nice breeze. I took some cookies over to my mom, changed her clocks for her, played a quick game of Scrabble and finished up with a mile walk together.

Afterwards, I continued on for another three miles on my own, and breathed in the beauty around me.

When I got home, I potted a few fresh herbs. Curly leaf parsley, cilantro, and the basil plant (what was left of it) that I’ve kept in a window all winter ...

2nd Blackberry Row Cleared! from Tink Squared

I’m pretty tickled with my row clearing progress, but a bit dismayed to discover tons of elderberry seedlings sprouted in the rows. I rue the day I ever planted elderberry bushes, I had no idea they were so invasive!

I went ahead and cut and removed all of the wires between the posts as well. They’re impossible to see without anything on them and Cosmo ran into them while we were out working and hurt himself.

My mom came over and helped a bit as well. She loves yardwork (I detest it) but I have to be careful ...

No Raspberries Yet from Tink Squared

I didn’t make it out to the nursery yesterday. It was cold, windy and drizzly and just not the type of weather that makes for an enjoyable browse through plants.

Instead, I picked up my mom and we dropped off quite a few bags between us of old clothes to MARVA, which is a shelter here, then had tea and a couple games of Scrabble.

We are playing on my mom’s ancient board instead of mine. I keep my house much cooler than she does in the winter, so we played at her house yesterday as she was ...

Cleaning out the Blackberries from Tink Squared

Jim and I have let the blackberry rows go for several years. Once upon a time, I kept them beautifully mulched and trimmed. There are three sixty foot rows of them, but most of the back row has died off due to tree growth that now shades them.

Since Jim is working out of state and I have a freezer full of berries, I decided this would be a good year for me to suck it up and cut them all to the ground.

I haul the cut brambles over to the creek bed and toss them in. They don ...

Morning Walk from Tink Squared

It’s supposed to rain all day, and most days for the next week, so I’m squeezing in a walk where I can. I took a look at the radar this morning and figured I could get an hour’s walk, which is about four miles, in before it hit.

It still isn’t raining so I probably could have headed to the lake for a much more enjoyable walk, instead of traipsing back and forth on the road in front of our house, which gets quite tedious as there is only a little over a quarter mile stretch ...

A lovely Arkansas Winter Day! from Tink Squared

I just got home from the lake. Hard to believe it was -4 degrees just a few days ago, as it was 77 degrees at the lake today, a gorgeous day for a walk!

There was still ice all over the water. I got a three mile walk in with one friend, then waited a half hour and another friend joined me for another three mile walk.

I made some pasta this morning, and I’m most happy I don’t have to cook dinner as I’m worn out now! This is my idea of “fast food”. It’s ...

Waffles Make Everything Better! from Tink Squared

I skimped on the batter a bit, so my waffles this morning aren’t pretty, but they are oh. my. god. pure bliss.

Rye sourdough, and this batch I used Einkorn and Spelt flours, I always add flax, so they are extremely healthy. I dumped in a couple of cups of blueberries too, so darn delicious! My recipe is here.

Are you sick of snow pictures yet? These were taken this morning (except for the two with a bit of sunshine, those were from yesterday afternoon).

We got more snow during the night and it is still ...

So Cold! from Tink Squared

This is brutal weather for Arkansas, and the state really isn’t equipped to handle it. It was -4 degrees this morning when I went out to feed and water the chickens. Their water finally froze up, despite the heat lamp. But that was the first time it has since the cold and snowy weather hit.

It was so darn cold my nose stuck together before I got back inside! I think this might be the coldest weather I’ve ever been in.

We ended with a total of nine inches at our house, with another 9-14 predicted for tomorrow ...

What Will It Be? from Tink Squared

This morning I kind of felt like sewing, but not really? I did my chores and I didn’t need to cook anything.I headed upstairs and rummaged through my laundry basket of red and cream scraps, cut a handful of them into one and a half inch half square triangles, and made two little stars. I’ll […]

Fiber Projects from Becca's Crazy Projects

I'm still making progress on my mosaic crochet blanket. It isn't fast but I really like how it is working up. I learned this design by watching a YouTube by Tinna. You can find her on Ravelry. From there you will find her patterns and links to her videos. Totally worth your time if you want to learn about mosaic crochet.
I finished a row on my Tunisian crochet shawl. Pattern is Ard-Ri, available on Ravelry.
This is a project that has been set aside and I think I'll try to get back to it this week ...

Odds and Ends from Becca's Crazy Projects

I saw a fund video on YouTube from Bigger Bolder Baking and wanted to give it a try. These are hand-held apple pies made from mostly scratch (purchased pie dough). They are Devine when warmed in the microwave, broken into thirds, and served with a scoop of ice cream.
Aunt Betty made another delivery.
I will never manage to sew with all this fabric.
This time there was some yarn, too. I have so many ideas for this yarn. I'll be busy all winter.
I worked on my Tunisian crochet shawl after dinner on Saturday while watching television. Even ...

Odds and Ends from Becca's Crazy Projects

This lily (I think it is a lily) was blooming in my front garden recently. Right there next to the weeds. We like all the plants here, even the dandelions.
I carried my latest crochet project (that I have yet to share) around in this awesome tote I made using an embroidery design from Urban Threads and too many Sharpies.
I made fococcia bread for dinner one night using this recipe.
It came out great! We added it to the list of things to make when we host dinner and games with friends.
I finished this fun pair of stripy ...

Discoveries from From the Strawberry Patch...

It's been a weekend of discoveries just outside the door. These precious little pink blooms appeared on the top of a lemon-scented geranium that I planted in a pot out on the patio. The flowers are truly secondary, I bought the plant as a natural mosquito repellent, it's grown quite large (from now on I'll realize that it needs its own pot as it has taken over and crowded out the Million Bells
