Happy hexie flower mug rugs from Quilting & Learning

Hi! It would seem that hexies are back into my life. They are very meditative to prepare and to stitch together (i.e. relatively mindless but enjoyable for a short time).

Happy Purple & Spots

July's colour for the 2022 Table Scraps challenge is purple and the theme is circles, spots and dots. Until last year I had very few fabrics with spots but because of a wonderful gift of scraps, I now have tons.

stash report February 27, 2022 from Making A Lather

Yesterday was sew day at the library for our guild. I enjoyed spending the day talking and sewing. I did come home with some scrappy pieces on the free table. And I won the drawing for a fat quarter. I tried to resist....

On the left is my prize fat quarter. I am not sure why I grabbed the bright green piece, but it is nice and bright. I have a weakness for floral that I hope to do a floral quilt someday. And, 2 different quilters brought me their waste triangles. One time, I pulled a triangle from the ...

stash february 6, 2022 from Making A Lather

I am sorting through blue strip bags looking for aqua/teal for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I have them all mixed together. Someday, I will have a bag for each...maybe.

My last stash report was Jan 23.At the time I was worried about the guild meeting.  Next week will be a challenge. We will have our guild meeting and there might be a free table. what will I do? Covid took care of that problem - So I haven't added any fabric to my stash this year so far.

stash january 23 2022 from Making A Lather

This week I worked on the last of the scraps from the  scrap bucket I am trying to tame. These scraps weighed  6 ounces which is almost a yard of fabric. I cut some 3 1/2 inches, then 2 1/2, 2, 1 1/2 and the rest went into a chunks bucket. It has helped to keep me from buying more of anything. Next week will be a challenge. We will have our guild meeting and there might be a free table. what will I do?

Slow Stitching Recap - La Passion Hexagon Quilt from DaySpringQuilter

This one is the hand sewing project that never ends and doesn't have a deadline.  I try not to compare myself with other EPPers (english paper piecers) who can get this particularly "involved"
quilt with over 17,250 hexagons in it done in months.  Some have done multiples.

Island Batik December Challenge from Sew Preeti Quilts

The guidelines for the Island Batik December Challenge were simple

  • Project Type: Any

  • Size: Minimum size 12” x12”

  • Any fabric

  • Technique: English Paper Piecing

And here is my simple response. This cutesy little table runner finished at 12" by 52".

Paul, the model

I used Island Batik Neutral Yolk for background (and binding) and various Island Batik fabrics to create the hexie flowers. Neither too big nor too small, I was going to name it Goldilocks but then...Paul suggested that it was "Too Hexie for My Table" and the name stuck.

Did you notice the touch of whimsy? It ...

Mermaid Rides the Elephant from Sew Preeti Quilts

I have a new finish to share but would you, could you wait till I share some news? Pretty, please.

I am in a magazine...well, my work is.

A couple of weeks ago I received an email from Diptee Raut of Quilt Stories, asking if I'd consider contributing to India's first quilting magazine.  I was so slammed at that time that I told Diptee - Take a look at my blog and use whatever you like. Diptee chose the tutorial for the Picket Star Quilt Block and here is the link to the magazine

Courage uses the Picket ...

Update on my Traveller's Blanket from Quilting & Learning

I started my Traveller's Blanket in May 2020 based on a course by Dejanne Cevaal. This will be my second stitching project for the next part of my #100dayschallenge on Instagram.

Traveller's Blanket so far

Mixing up projects and techniques

This project has what I love best - a mixture of different projects and techniques (links in Related links below).
  • Meditation stitching - after reading an article by Liz Kettle in the October/November 2019 edition of the Quilting Arts magazine, I started making 4" squares. It was very calming and creative, but what to do with all of those ...

Remembering Chevy from Quilting & Learning

Chevy came to us 5 years ago in June. I remember feeling that she had pushed her way into my heart within hours!

Chevy - our Warrior Princess!

Last Christmas my daughter and I bought Chevy a new collar from Pooch & Tabby of Toronto. It was called Warrior Princess and it was perfect! Chevy was feisty, protective and full of love for her adoptive family and of food (not sure in which order!)

My favourite picture of Chevy sleeping on her quilts!

Chevy was also part of my Muse. Taking our walks has lead to a few of my favourite art ...

Mystery UFO from Quilting & Learning

This quilt has now been on my design wall for several months. I felt like doing something different, so I thought that I would work on it. I had the fabric strips and extra pieces in a project box but no pattern...where did this project come from?

Mystery UFO (UnFinished Object) solved

First clue: I checked to see when I had first taken pictures of the quilt on my design wall. I found this picture in December on my Studio Tour post, and on my phone it first appeared in mid-November. It would seem that I didn't write ...

More repurposing, plus a small giveaway from The Academic Quilter

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a really good week. For me, we are barreling towards the end of the semester, and it cannot come soon enough. I can't wait to delete Zoom. And now that I've said that, you know it's never going to happen, right?

These past couple of months when I was too stressed to stitch, I still spent some time in the sewing room, sorting and deciding what to do with projects that I had started and not finished. Some will get finished, but others have been repurposed. (Like this one ...

Week 4 of #AtoZchallenge2021Quilt (Art) from Quilting & Learning

Wow, I'm keeping up with the #AtoZchallenge2021Quilt (Art) on Instagram. It's been a long, hard week but I managed it. This is the second last week of April and I'm going to show you what I posted, from P to U!

P is for Paper

The piece is Momigami tree and was created based on a workshop with Cas Holmes through TextileArtist.org in August 2020. Momigami is Japanese for cloth made of kneaded paper.  We adapted the process by using long-fibred paper and kneading it with a little bit of oil until it become more supple ...
