Colour Change from Romany Quilting

The colour for those of us taking part in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) has changed this month to aqua.  In my mind, aqua also encompasses the  shades of turquoise and teal.  Once again, not shades I have a huge amount of, but I found enough strips and small pieces to cut and stitch blocks for my two Little Bricks projects.

Little Bricks

We took a trip up to Palmerston North on Thursday to get the many staples removed from Robin’s knee, in fact we counted 28 of them!  The nurse had some sort of handy little implement which ...

Knitting, a New Knee, and Quilts from Romany Quilting

It’s been quite a week.   The date for  Robin’s second knee replacement had finally rolled around, and on the day prior he needed blood tests done, and we were both asked to take a RAT test each, to prove we were Covid free.  Luckily the tests were negative, always a bit of a worry as we had one friend who had his surgery deferred for quite some weeks as he had caught Covid.  The alarm clock was set on Tuesday morning for 5.00am, and we were out the door and driving at 6.00am to Palmy in ...

On A Break from From the Strawberry Patch...

You might have thought that I've been on a break. Well, let me tell you, it's not been an intentional one (however break may just be the operative word here). I've got lots to write about and plenty to catch up on; that will all happen soon enough. But, in the meantime, I've been sidelined with a cracked distal radius bone. Yep, that's me and, of course, it's my right wrist. Sigh. Every event

It's my lucky day! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Thankfully, I'm in pretty good health and don't interact much with medical professionals. However, I'm putting my new health card to the test!

I had a physical yesterday. I didn't think they did them any longer, but my doctor wanted one done. Perhaps because it's so long since I last saw her. I laughed because she was taking my blood pressure and said, "It'll likely be high because of the pain and swelling in the knee." Nope -- she chuckled as the reading was very low! Let's hope it stays that way, as I ...

Snooze fest from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OH! Nothing went as planned yesterday, although I did get some things done. However, I admit I was as lazy as a slug and had several LONG naps. I guess the age factor is finally creeping in, and my recovery from long travel days and late nights is getting longer! Mind you, I barely slept that last night in Halifax, which for me, is a killer, and my body was trying to catch up. Then the long day and drive on Tuesday didn't help.

I spent part of the day looking for some specific photos, only to realize that ...

Fall Back from Romany Quilting

Don't worry, I haven't had a fall.  This is how we remember to alter our clocks when daylight saving comes to an end.  It’s “Spring Forward” at the start, and “Fall Back” at the completion.  This important job belongs to Robin, he is the clock fixer-upper in our home.  I must say that I'm always most impressed that the computers and cell phones can do this task all by themselves!

We've had a busy week.  Robin had his procedure on Saturday morning so we had a drive up to Palmerston North Hospital.  I was well ...

Finishes, So Many Finishes! from The Modern Diary

Becky sent me this awesome snowman wall hanging for Christmas.  I love it!

I had my Ocrevous infusion mid February.  Took Babel to read but was hit super hard by the Benadryl so I had to start it over that night.  Five stars, I really liked it!
I continued to do a row a week on my Sparkling New Year mystery quilt.

I got the first border on it.  It is a little wavy even though I did my usual measuring method.
Today I got the final border on it and I am happy with it!

I spent all day ...

A little Sewing, and Physio visit from Romany Quilting

I did a little sewing over the weekend, something that I’d wanted to stitch for a while.  With a good supply of donated children's fabric on hand, I wanted to make some little girls pinnies (aprons).  Sew Wot friend Heather lent me her delightful pattern a while ago, and I traced a copy off.  She used to make the dress and pinny for her own girls when they were little, she told me, all those years ago.

Such a cute pattern

Gemma wanted to help too, and showed interest as I was stitching away.  It’s nice that ...

A Quilt – and Removing Staples from Romany Quilting

It’s always exciting to find a quilt displayed – sometimes when you least expect it.  This was the case when we attended an appointment for Robin, it was an Anzac wall hanging.  For those who don't know, Anzac stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, and we have a public holiday on April 25th to remember the fallen soldiers from both countries.  Upon enquiry, I found out that this wall hanging was stitched by the wife of one of the orthopedic surgeons who consult here.  One of my aims is to make an Anzac quilt one day soon ...

Be Grateful, and Daylight Saving starts from Romany Quilting

Spring has sprung here in my part of Paradise, and last night was time to turn the clocks forward one hour for Daylight Saving time.  Our evenings will be  little longer, more time to enjoy the balmy early evenings.  It must be said that I love Summer.

I’ve been a bit preoccupied lately with several appointments in the lead up to Robin’s knee replacement, and his operation last Tuesday.  It went well, I’m pleased to say, and he was home within a few days.  He wasn't allowed home until he could get out of bed and ...

In on Tuesday, Home on Friday from Romany Quilting

It was an early morning start on Tuesday with the alarm clock set to 5.00am.  After Covid had disrupted the hospital surgery lists for the last two years, the day had arrived at last.  We departed from home at 6.00am, arrived at the hospital at 7.00am, and Robin was soon settled into his room.  Questions asked, tests taken, including the ever important RAT test, and then he was changed into his hospital gown.

Several weeks earlier the surgeon had told us, “Don't get Covid”, and remarked that several patients on the theatre list had to be ...

Happy Birthday Robin, and a Zoom Call from Romany Quilting

Robin has just turned 75 so of course he needed to celebrate.  We had a family lunch on Sunday, and both of his brothers and wives were able attend, as did my younger sister and her partner.  Daughter Nicky and her hubby, Emma and Megan our two granddaughters, plus Emma’s boyfriend.  Quite a crowd in our little house.  We were so lucky with the fickle Spring weather, it was warm and sunny so it was very pleasant out on the patio with  extra seating, sheltering under the archgola.  The blokes joined Robin for a beer or two outside as ...

Sewing with Friends! from The Modern Diary

I put a border on my Boo Crew Quilt!

Becky and Barb and I worked on our Soul Mates Mystery Sewalong a few weeks ago and got the tops together.  My borders went on later that week.  Not the greatest picture as it is too big to lay out inside and I have not had the energy to take it outside in the heat!
Here is Becky's.  So fun to see two quilts in the same colors still be so different!

I got out my daughter's old dollhouse for Hazel (who will be two in September) and she ...

It's All Good from From the Strawberry Patch...

I got the Workout quilt off the rails yesterday, it measures 58" square. I've really enjoyed working on this one. It's from the Wonderful Curves Sampler Book and uses the Wonder Curve ruler. I'll get the binding attached and whipped down today. The curved pieces are my last little bits of true Indigo fabric that I have saved hoarded over the years for something special- apparently this was it!

Pussy Cats, Pussy Cats, Where have you Been? from Romany Quilting

No, they haven't been to London to see the Queen, as the rhyme goes?  I found them all rolled up and hiding in the wardrobe!  This small cat quilt was layered and safety pinned together, ready for machine quilting.  Obviously, I had a tidy up, and put them away, so I'm pleased I found them.  Although I searched high and low through the photo albums I can’t find out when I started this project.  What I do remember is that the pussy cats came as a small panel, I sliced them apart, then sewed the sashing strips ...

Soul Mates with my Sewing Buddies! from The Modern Diary

Soul Mates clue one is done!  Barb and I sewed with Becky on Saturday afternoon, and we managed to complete our clue one already.  Here are my fabrics again.

Here are my block A's.  I am pretty happy with them.

Becky also decided to go with blue and brown.  Looking forward to seeing how our different fabrics in the same colors turn out!
Here is Becky's block A.

Here are Barb's blocks in Quilt of Valor colors.  This will be gorgeous too!

These gorgeous blocks are Becky's Ruby Jubilee aka Amythyst Jubilee.  She and I and ...

Health Check from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I have so many pictures to post -- there just isn't enough time. I'm teaching an in-person class today, and everything is prepped and ready to load into the car! Yeah!

I still have pictures from the weekend to post, and I don't think I'll get them all done today. Let's see what happens.

Maryke, Carol, and I did some swapping; here is part of what we exchanged. I loaned Maryke some templates, and I got two books in return. The first one, I've put with my Mixed Media projects for the year, and I ...

Chickie Art, Working on a Border and Quilty Gifts! from The Modern Diary

Hazel loves to do art so she painted a paper plate and got almost no paint anywhere else!  We are thinking she might be a leftie (or ambidextrous) as she seems to go back and forth some but has a preference for her left hand.  This runs in our family a bit--my great grandfather Clarence Rushman was able to write with both hands and my mom's generation does many things with their non dominant hands.  My youngest son Jay is also primarily left handed but he could not decide until he was about five with the help of OT ...
