I tackled a UFO this week--they will not get done unless I work on them! I participated in a round robin with some members of the Toronto Modern Guild last summer and made a wall hanging out of my centre block with a spool border made by Terri. The other borders/blocks will be used in future projects. I found some appropriate backing fabric and pieced some batting scraps before pin basting and quilting it with my walking foot. My slow stitching project this week was sewing the binding down. It is the same fabric as the background gray around ...

This was not a very productive week in my sewing room. I managed to hand appliqué a few more doors and windows on a couple of houses on my Coming Home quilt, but that's about it.
There may have been some bribing involved in the taking of this next photo---Finn is showing you have have two more houses to do on this row. The dark blue house will have a yellow door and windows. The magenta house just needs the windows sewn down. This will be my project for slow Sunday stitching tomorrow. I will link up with Kathy ...
read moreFinn is here! Our daughter is quite busy at work for the next few weeks so we have Finn here to keep us company. He loves to sit on the back of the couch and keep an eye on the comings and goings outside, as well as watch my husband and I. Finn likes to keep track of his people. He's staring at me as I type this blogpost on the computer...obviously, I need supervision!
Finn is not allowed in my sewing room so I have a baby gate up at the doorway so he can still see ...

During my sewing room time this week, I finished putting this quilt top together. The rust colour really brightens up the brown, tan and cream swap blocks. I had ... read more
I finished off the zigzag quilt top and pieced the backing from leftover fabric from the front of the quilt. Nice to use up some fabrics from the stash that have been there a while. I still have some HST's left and may make a few more placemats for Meals on Wheels with them.
I hope to get this one quilted this week--my sewing machine is back from repair and this will be a good test for it! The quilt top is 56" square.
Two more blocks were put together for my Rainbow Scrap quilt... dark green and orange ...

Much of our time this week was spent outside, cleaning up gardens, weeding, spitting perennials, moving plants, etc. Sunday morning, we hope to be outside ... read more
The Honey Fig tree is doing very well. Next week I will remove more grass and add mulch.
This is a pine tree seedling David got from Lowes. They were giving them away. The tree stump it's sitting atop was a dead pine tree that had to be removed.
The bougainvillea is really doing well. You can't see but there are several bright pink flowers on one stem.
Well, winter did not rear its head this week, thankfully, even though it was a bit chilly for a couple of days.
I managed a few hours in the sewing room this week and completed two more placemats for Meals on Wheels. I have three more tops made and they will be quilted and bound this coming week. I have fabric picked out for the rest of the dozen placemats I will be making and hope to finish them soon as well. I am the type of person who likes to get things done ahead of time so I don ...
read moreLucky for me, the colour of the month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is Blue for April. I had already started making blue blocks for my Colour Block Challenge quilt for April so these two challenges will be met together. I ended up making 12 medium/dark blue blocks and then found I had a stack of light blue squares as well. I made 4 light blue blocks and put them all up on the design wall to consider my next steps. I looked at my stash and found some red solid fabric which I will use for ... read more

Last weekend, I took a class with Mary Elizabeth Kinch on piecing with small bits of fabric. The quilt I am making is called Summerhill. It has 4 blocks surrounded by some borders. I have now finished two of my blocks. Each square in this first block finishes at one inch.
The second one is a Courthouse step block--each log is .5" finished. This is not paper pieced.
I am using scraps from my cool Kona solids bin plus red violet. About half of the scraps are all over my cutting table so I am going to have to keep ...
read moreI have been working on these modified Geese Migration blocks for the last couple of months with the aim of making 16 different coloured blocks from my scrap bins. Each block has 25 different fabrics in it so there are 400 different fabrics in this quilt! There was no noticeable difference in the volume of scraps in any of my scrap bins after making these blocks, so I will have to come up with another scrappy quilt to use up some of these scraps. Each block is 10.5" square. I am not sure how I am going to set ... read more
