Snafu from Cat Patches

Some of you might be aware of a big snafu on Google/Blogger yesterday. I've heard of posts being removed as malware, and that's only the beginning. By my investigation, all Blogger blogs were blocked as unsafe sites. My friend Cheryl wrote to me in a near-panic since it happened just after she switched her email feed over to a new service. As it turns out, that had nothing to do with it...thank goodness...and everything appears to be set right again. At least I hope so. This is one of those times where I'm afraid ...

Shoulder to the Wheel from ... Cat Patches

The news from yesterday's doctor visit to recheck my shoulder was as good as can be expected under the circumstances. X-rays showed new bone growth, and it's settled: no surgery. The doctor prescribed physical therapy and a return visit in six months. Now I'm set up for the first PT appointment next Monday. I really hate PT for so many reasons, but it's probably the best chance I have of regaining strength and full range of motion. So, I'll set my jaw, gird up my loins and go...but I won't be happy about ...

Happy to be Home from ... Cat Patches

Our drive yesterday ended up being shorter than expected. We'd worried about getting over the mountain passes. We had the option of driving north to the Columbia Gorge where we could get around the mountains, or we could drive over the mountains via the Santiam Pass. We checked traffic cams over the most worrisome passes, and the roads looked clear. Snow had fallen a few inches overnight in Bend, and that had us a little worried, but we figured it was worth the risk to shorten our trip by almost half.

Before heading out from the RV park, this ...

Repeat After Me from ... Cat Patches

The weather was cooler yesterday, but no more rain. The sky looked threatening toward late afternoon, but then the storm clouds passed over without a drop. Fine with us. I know you folks in Southern California got some rain, and that has to be a good thing. We got off to a slow start. We were both tired in the morning for some reason, and so we ended up taking morning naps. It was nearly noon by the time I was dressed and ready to head out on my photography challenge walk.

Before that, though, we got Smitty out for ...

A Wet Week of Hand Stitching from Cat Patches

Good morning! I missed you guys! Did you miss me? We could get just a sliver of cell signal when we were out on the beach this past week, but in the RV...Nada. Zilch. Nothing. We were unplugged.

As expected, it rained almost the entire time we were gone this past week. No worries though. I spent my time hand-stitching. Mike read his books, and the kitties were busy on woofie patrol. Smitty took the first watch:

Sadie took the second:

But let's just back up a few days, shall we? Before we left home, I finished off ...

Snow in October from Cat Patches

We've never had snow in October...and we don't now. But quilt-wise, anything can happen. I'll say more in a minute. First...here's something we get in abundance in October: Wonderfully woven webs.

We get lots of big garden spiders this time of year, as I imagine most people do. The web above is about 18 inches in diameter. Fortunately, the spider is smaller. Here's another one...a little harder to see with the clematis in the background.

I've been hoping for a photo of these, but there hasn't been enough moisture for ...

Winchester Bay, Oregon from Cat Patches

We're back from our little getaway. We left Tuesday morning with our truck camper and ATV's and a sincere wish for an uneventful trip.

We were badly in need of some relaxation, and we definitely got that. When we arrive at a new place, the kitties always run to the windows to see where we are. Sadie spied some people and some woofies.

Smitty, do you think they can see us in here?

Maybe I should keep a low profile. What do you think?

Come look over here, Sadie. Birds!!!

Yes, indeed. This seagull was very interested in ...

Just Beachy from ... Cat Patches

We had such a nice little getaway to the beach this past week. It was well worth the effort involved in  getting ready to go. The weather was very nice, although it rained Wednesday night. By morning, it cleared, and our Thursday was lovely too. I have lots of pictures to show you, so get comfy, and we'll get going.

Originally, we’d planned to have dinner at a restaurant we like in Cannon Beach, EVOO. I’ve written about EVOO before. But then we got nervous about the small indoor environment. The food is delicious. The show is ...

Busy Bee from ... Cat Patches

We're winding down to the last day before we take off on a short camping trip to the beach. Originally, we were making this trip to have dinner at a restaurant we like in Cannon Beach, called EVOO. We made the reservations when things were looking up, virus-wise. Then we got nervous about indoor venues and canceled our reservations. No matter. No reason not to make the trip anyway. Camping is naturally socially distant, and we were able to get a reservation at one of the Oregon state parks. So we're going.

And that brings me to the ...

Wet Weekend from Cat Patches

It's been rain, rain, rain for days. We're expecting more rain until after Tuesday when it should improve considerably. Temperatures into the 80's are expected as summer approaches. It can't come soon enough for us.

Most of my day was spent in the sewing room. I finished off the third "flower" block for Jenny's Flower Garden.

My able-bodied assistant helped me lay out the pieces for the "blanks,"

and he resisted the urge to rearrange them while I sewed them together.

Now I have 4 rows and 28 out of 49 blocks for this quilt ...
