Turkey Day! from Cat Patches

Good turkey morning, my friends! It might just be my favorite day of the year, mainly because I get to see my kiddos. Erik and Mae are hosting dinner this year, and so we'll be meeting them and Matthew at their place later this afternoon. As you might guess, I spent the day in the kitchen yesterday. The only thing picture worthy was this Bourbon Pumpkin Tart with Walnut Streusel. I can't remember the issue of Fine Cooking where I saw it published the first time, but it's been a standby for many, many years.

A Kitty Finish from Cat Patches

After considering my lack of sewing mojo in yesterday's post, it seemed like a good day to finish something. Part of my sewing malaise has to do with indecision. With several quilts nearing a finish and needing quilting, I was having a hard time deciding what to work on next. When I tackled yesterday's projects, I decided a finish was just what the sewing doctor ordered. Since I was still waiting for buttons on the Get Well Kitty project, it seemed the best choice was to work on the Kitty Cat Alphabet. It was already sandwiched, and so ...

Kendall Mountain from Cat Patches

Good early morning, my friends. When you travel with cats, they are kind enough to make sure you're always awake to see the sunrise. When the sun rose yesterday morning, this is what I could see from our window. It rained all night, but then cleared up for a cloudy and chilly day. We saw some sun breaks, but it never really warmed up very much. The forecast would have us believe that the rest of our time here will be sunnier, and presumably warmer.

Our first ride was to the top of Kendall Mountain, which is just behind ...

Spacy Smitty from ... Cat Patches

Smitty had the worst day ever yesterday. He had his teeth cleaned. Admittedly he now has a dazzling smile, but he was pretty well lost in space when he came home and well into the night. I'm not sure the poor guy is right in his head yet this morning, although he is acting a little more like himself. When we got him home, he sat by the door gazing out, possibly seeing things the rest of us couldn't see.

He's no worse for wear, except for a little shaved spot on his right leg where an ...

Busy Summer from Cat Patches

From year to year, I forget how busy summer is. When it rains all winter, there isn't much to do outside, and I can spend all my time indoors sewing. Summers and gardening can get very, very busy. Just when I tell myself I'm caught up on gardening efforts, the next day comes with a whole new set of tasks. I had breakfast with Sue yesterday morning, and then we went for a short walk. We walked through Barrows Park, a place we've walked before. Although it's been some years since we've been there, things ...

Another Hot Day from ... Cat Patches

It's good to have air-conditioning. It's rarely hot enough to use it in this part of the world, and so there are many who go without. But, man...these hot days are unheard of in this part of the world. Our temperatures are similar to what they're experiencing in Phoenix, Arizona. I haven't been paying attention to what's causing this weather aberration, and so I inquired of my friend, The Google, just now. The Google knows everything. That's why I keep it around so that I can ask it questions all the time. It ...

All Dressed Up and No Place to Go from Cat Patches

Lucky me...no jury duty yesterday afternoon, and none today. Nevertheless, I remain ready, willing, and able to do my duty for my community. I'll need to call in tonight to see if I have to report tomorrow, but then one week will be finished. (There are no trials scheduled on Fridays.) Yay me...for doing absolutely nothing so far. Still, you've got to admit there's some heroics going on right here in my own living room. A legend in my own mind...that's me.

Also legendary...these cats. It was a hot day yesterday, and ...

Making Headway from Cat Patches

Mike and I had to run an errand in town yesterday morning. It was lunch time when we arrived home. After lunch, I spent a nice day in the sewing room. When we left, Sadie was basking in the morning sunshine.

After lunch, I went straight to work sewing together the center section of the I Believe in Snowmen quilt top. I laid out all the blocks on the floor, and then considered the best strategy for sewing it together. You can see those little 3-star sections are staggered, and so sewing it row by row wasn't going to ...

Lots of Slow Stitching from ... Cat Patches

As I might have mentioned before, the pain level in my shoulder and thumb has decreased substantially. Most days, it's almost as if it never happened. Some days, however, are designated as "pain days," and yesterday was one of them. I'd hoped to do some weeding in the yard, but it would have been a bad decision. Even Mike was telling me to sit down for the day, and so I was able to have a slow day without guilt. By day's end, I was feeling much better, although I'll admit holding a needle for much ...

A Little of Everything from Cat Patches

It was a busy and productive day yesterday. I'm happy to say life at the Three Cats Ranch is returning to normal after my bike accident back in December. I need Mike's help with certain things, like lifting heavy objects, but I can do most things independently again. It sure feels good. Hopefully, we'll be seeing the pandemic wind down as well, with more people being vaccinated. But let's all continue to be vigilant, shall we? It's too soon for any super spreader celebrations.

Nevertheless, we can celebrate these small victories in our own backyard ...
